Hi Mojo - Beautiful windows, you did a great job. Sorry to see the flower one broke, I know all the time and work that goes into painting a window or anything else for that sake. I do some decorative painting myself. Tell me, did you reverse paint these? What is the blue in the background on the two - painted to make a blue sky? Did you use enamel paints. I've found close to 30 old windows this summer, a lot to paint but I enjoy it so much, peace and relaxation. Here is a pic of my painted window.

Mojo - sorry, meant to add - I left the window wood natural and aged on the one I painted. It is hanging with an eye & hook (placed into a wall stud cause it's very heavy).

For the window wood colors - sage, avacado, (I love black personally, makes the painting "pop"), crackled, distressed, "rookwood red," "denium blue." I'd say, depends on what you are painting and for whom. Do you keep all the windows for yourself or give them to family and friends, do you sell them? My decorating colors in my home are "almost" Navy blue and rookwood red (sort of a darker burgandy). My walls are an ivory. My thought was to put the color in my furniture and accessories. I think a coordinating color of what is being painted and where it will hang should give you an idea of the window wood, especially on white walls. My neighbor's living room walls are a darker taupe with bright white woodwork and ceiling. If I had a window in that room, I would go with the bright white. Do you like the "warm whites/off whites." Ok, I'm writing too much here, will end now.

awesome painting sal I love hummingbirds....I use acrylic paints on the front....and spray enamel on the back its not reverse it is painted free hand....I then use a clear spray for glass to seal everything....these look awesome hanging outside...and the only way to preserve the paint is to seal it(wait til i post my lighthouse picture...the clouds look so real lol...i used 99cent white spray paint for the clouds lol) the hot thing now is the shabby chic look so try not to make the frames look new lol I actually distress them more...

Sorry the one got broken. Could you use GE silicon II, (or E 6000) on the cracks to hold it together,
put thin plywood on the back and another piece of glass on the front? Maybe salvage it fro awhile anyway.

i wish the crack wasnt that bad lol....I kept it so I can remake it (which I say it will never be as pretty as that one)..

sal I do both I do sell and give as gifts... two of my paintings are hanging in a store called the elegant relic in NC....also on my next visit to nc I was asked to bring my work in to the art counsel in graham...so i really am hoping they will take off...its hard to work out of the home with a son that has asthma so this would be so awesome to be able to make money and be home with my son...

I have a back porch with 6 windows like this would be perfect. I hope you can sell these .
as far as color she had some good ideas I agree with the black for the frame ,makes the colors pop. the denim ,cornflower blue, country blue stains and wiped on color always seem to be the antique..ee looking one but the greens have the same effect.
I had a thought when looking at some of these once if the wood were,nt beat up and smooth and maybe for the frame for some real bright flowers what about that chrome finish spray
I,ve used this on things and it is a real nice finish .
with the white glass and flowers ? in the auto section this spray is top stuff .
I have another idea that was made for this I wanted this look on my cabinet doors but was,nt as talented so I added a picket fence to the bottom and add paper flowers from time to time . the fence was made from scrap and spray painted then tacked to the door with finish nails I glued the pickets on with wood glue and tried to scale it to size.
but the picket fence along the bottom of the window witht he flowers poking out here and there or some rose bushes or a scarecrow or or or ????.
adds a little attention for no cost. Rick

Nice idea Rick, Another is, "gently" nail a planter to the bottom wood of the window and plant flowers. I saw one window which was unpainted and just had a wreath hanging over the corner of it - or put the wreath in the middle of the window. Mojo, do it, be able to stay home with your son, that would be great for both of you (if you can).

Have you considered taking the broken window and mosaicing it onto another window or tabletop?

hahaha I was just over in the stain glass mosaic forum....but wasnt thinking about using my own art work omg what an awesome idea thanks so much miss....I was thinking about tossing it..glad i didnt!!
