this is my daughters reading nook in her room we read bedtime stories here everynight. Hopefully by sept. I will have window seats in my living room with small book shelves too. but for now it I have two wing back chairs in the sunroom where I love to read and a window seat in the dining room for reading too. Can not wait to see yours!

Here is an inspiration of what I would love too have...

I'm in the process of packing to move, so no pictures.

But basically, once I realized that I wanted my entire home to be one cosy reading nook, the majority of my decorating issues were solved. There's a comfy spot to read in every room, except the kitchen.

A good reading nook has a comfortable chair, good reading lighting, a place to put books down and a place to put other stuff--reading glasses, a drink, a bookmark, a pad of paper and a pen for when inspiration strikes. And a foot stool or something so I can prop my feet up, mostly because it's easier to have the cat on my lap with my feet up.

My chief reading spot in this house was an old armchair of my grandfather's, with a high enough back that I could lean my head back, with a floor lamp and a small table on each side of it--one table for the pile of books, the other for the other random stuff I seem to need when I'm reading.

My new place has a bay window in the living room that I think will be the living room reading nook, plus an extra small bedroom that's going to be a library, complete with library table and cozy armchair.

We're a family of readers and I've managed to create reading nooks in several of our rooms.
Here's DD's room. I'm not sure how well you can see them, but there's a small wrought iron bistro table and chair pulled up next to her window seat for extra seating, etc. Out of the pic, to the right is a matching built-in bookcase:

This is a close-up of it with the new throw pillows for it. When I designed this area, I made sure that her window seat would be wide and long enough to serve as an extra bed for company. I bought 4" thick foam and made the cushion for it.

In our guest room, this chair by the window makes a cozy place to read. BTW, just last week I replaced the carved wood nightstand there with a more Western-looking oak one. No pics of it yet, though:

In one corner of our living room, I created this cozy spot where I like to read. I just took this pic and have to apologize for the glare. This area is to the right of our fireplace and has a window above it and a glass door wall out to our front portal on the other side of it:

And finally, I actually have 2 reading nooks in our MBR. This is one to the left of the bed, next to the glass door to our wall-in garden. I tend to read here more in the Summer months:

I've also made a cozy reading area for us out on our front portal, complete with 2 lamps so that we can read there after dark, which we do a lot at this time of year, but I don't want to overwhelm you with pics (LOL) ;^D

Alicate, thanks for the comps on my walls. They're real exposed adobe bricks, just painted a warm cream color. Our entire house, inside and out is all adobe. It's fairly common here in New Mexico.

We're all big readers and if my kids read in their rooms, it means we might not see them for days on end when they get a big new book or series...so when we moved to this house I wanted to make sure there was plenty of comfy reading seating in the living room. That's why I got two couches--I figured they would hold four kids reading:) A lamp on either end of each couch, a couple of quilts always on hand, they enjoy the space as much as I'd hoped.

I sit and read mostly in an old slipcovered armchair between the two couches and near the front window, with my feet propped up on a vintage vanity bench that I also use as a laptop desk and as a table when I'm being naughty and eating in my reading chair. Which is nearly every day!

I just completed my reading room this summer and I am so happy with it. I had two requirements: a room completely tv free, and two super comfy recliners, for dh and myself. Here is what I ended up with:

Most of the furniture - the sofa, coffee table, side table, and two white chairs by the fireplace are from craigslist. The two leather recliners were my big splurge - one of the few times I've bought new furniture! - but it was the one area I would not settle - I knew if dh and I were really going to use the room it would have to be comfortable and practical. And those chairs are so comfortable you could take a nap in them. We love to hide out here away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house. The kids like to sneak in here and curl up with a book as well. I also love to knit in this room. I have a couple more things to do to finish the room - I need to get sheer door panels for the french doors to hide the clutter of the office, and I need a few more end tables. I know I want vintage mismatched tables, and managed to find the one with the glass lamp on it for a steal, but I haven't had much luck since then so the little folding tv trays from Walmart will have to suffice while I continue the search.
