Help needed - ideas to convert kitchen chairs into stools???

I just found a great table top and separate set of legs that together are going to make a great breakfast bar in my kitchen.

My problem is that I love my hand painted kitchen chairs. If they were taller they would be perfect.

Does anyone have a good plan for the sturdy addtion of 6 - 8 inches to the bottome of chairs? Best idea I can come up with is big, ugly industrial wheels.

Buy inexpensive bar stools and exchange the legs for the chair legs? Is there some way you might take the legs off the chairs and attach a thick board on the bottom of the chairs then put the original legs back on? If that doesn't make the chairs tall enough then you could add rollers for a few more inches of height.Or you could just make a table height breakfast bar! I always though I had to have a bar in my kitchen.When I finally got one I figured out it is very uncomfortable to sit at.Bar stools are too high for comfort and not easily moved when you are sitting in them.I much prefer a table height one or just a tiny bit taller than table height so my feet still touch the floor.....Lillie

Does your breakfast bar have to be tall?, couldn't you make it at a comfortable height to use the painted chairs you love so much.

Monica, thanks. Unfortunately, none of those on the BB&B site are modern or contemporary in styling and have a back. Pittsburghdweller, thanks for the suggestion for the "ghost chair" -- I've never seen that before, but it might work. Does anyone have one? I wonder how sturdy it is, and how smoothly it slides. I'll have to do some searching to see if we can find one locally to see if it's actually comfortable to sit in. I guess as a general question, I'm also asking about chair legs on a tile floor. Won't most chairs or benches scrape against the tile, or can you count on plastic feet extensions to glide gently and leave the floor undamaged over a long period of time? Or would it be better to look for something on casters/wheels? Thanks for any input. -- Eric

Hi Maureen, Are you still interested? I didn't see your post until now. I was going to ask if you have an idea on what type of bar stool you're looking for? For example, swivel, non-swivel, arms, no arms, etc. You have a beautiful kitchen and I think a lot will work well.

if you have a child in Soccer, how about going fun. Wayfair.com this rug also comes in a Runner. I prefer pendant lights that are enclosed (don't like looking at a bare bulb) A color would be fun ... you only have children in your home for a short time, make the place fun for them... and you. It's a home, not a showroom. Your table is nice, some modern chairs, metal or painted wood will be fresh with a traditional table. Simple Grommet Drapery panels on the windows. Potterybarn.com has some great indoor/outdoor grommet panels WASHABLE in three neutral colors.
