I agree. I am not sure what kind of cymbidium it is either but it looks like one that I saw at a recent orchid show under a miniature chinese cymbidium sign. That is about all that I can contribute.

Chaman may be right about the seeds needing light to germininate, but I always cover my lettuce seeds with some soil, not much to be sure, but enough to keep the birds from eating it before it germinates. Lettuce won't germinate well in the heat. If you want to try sowing it in summer (I'd imagine your summers can get quite hot), sow the seeds in a shady spot. It should do well anytime except in winter, unless you can rig up a cold frame. Lettuce like lots of water and a well manured soil so that it grows quickly and doesn't become too bitter. Mache (aka Lamb's Lettuce or Corn Salad) should do well for you in the colder parts of the season too. It's hardier than lettuce, at least it is for me.

I don't buy from Anthropology because they are not at all what they pretend to be. With the name and their lofty look to their stores and many of their "earthy-looking" pieces I believe they are trying to make people think that they are a simple shop with artisan goods, fair trade even. They are anything but that. High priced crap describes them a lot better. I don't know if they're fooling anybody, but anything affordable there is usually junk.

Some Brachychiton (bottle trees) have similar leaves. There are hybrids offered, so I am not certain at this young age, and sans a flower photo, of a more specific id. Sometimes the leaves change form as the plant matures. I am more familiar with Brachychiton when they are mature. Or maybe someone has a completely different id idea.
