Hawaiian Vacations

My nephew went on a vacation to the Island Of Molokai. If you need a place with quiet and something more like the orig islands that is the place. They have a little bit of a rain forest for hiking, only 3 or 4 restaurants, that are very expensive. He got mad at their prices and bought some food at their store for sandwiches. LOL He had a hut on the beach that was rocky, look like black lava rock, no swimming. He rented a car there and drove to a stretch of beach 3 miles long and they had the place to themselves. I thought of going there but not sure about going alone. Sounds like paradise to me.

This is not a commercial, I love nature and thought I would share this with any one else that likes to hike and enjoys solitude.

Sounds interesting. Considering HI for next year but I think we will stay on "the beaten path" since we are first timers.

stir fryi, I am one of those rare people who likes solitude, communing with nature, etc.. It would suit me just fine. Wish I knew someone with the same likes, so I wouldn't have to go alone.

The evergreen plumeria (Singapore) is the most tropical and has the hardest time surviving winters here. The hardiest is "Sierra Madre" or those species collected from high altitudes in Mexico. I have one from Zacatecas that survived a freeze and looks different from the usual tropical hybrids but it is not commercially available to my knowledge. Just about any of them will perish in cold wet conditions. You have to help them into dormancy by easing off the water until they are dry, then water very little amounts when the leaves start to push and increase the water as the leaf surface increases. But still, dry between waterings. I recommend Penang Peach. It smells like peach and the color varies with the weather from yellowish to apricot to pinkish. The branches are compact and balanced and it is floriferous. Celadine is the easy one with a wonderful scent, big yellow flowers and easy to grow, it's more forgiving than others.

Roxanna- what Bri said is correct. Technically a plant should be registered with the Plumeria Society of America or be a cutting from a registered plant to have a genuine, recognized name. One of the problems is that cuttings and seedlings are not the same. Cuttings for the most part are like the plant it comes from whereas seedlings may or may not look like the parent plant. I have 10 white seedlings from a Cindy Moragne that are all slightly different. I also have several that are red, orange and tri-colors. If I called them Cindy Moragnes and sold them as such, people would not get the real deal. Also, some overseas growers have bought cuttings from Hawaii and turn around and give them a new name to enhance sales. For sales purposes, you cannot id a plumeria from a picture alone. The PSA requires a load of data and more than three growing plants to consider recognizing a new name. They are trying to standardize the plants so when you buy or trade, you get what you expected. Still, I have probably twenty plants that were bought from major dealers or growers that turned out to be something else. by the time they flower it is several years later. @larsi - I have not had anything happen that is equal to what you described, but my W4842 will occasionally have a "hissy fit", usually when a cycle ends. Sometimes the door will not unlock, no other symptom, so I have to fool it and start a cycle, then pause/cancel to get the door unlocked. I am too lazy to get the owners manual out and fiddle with the orange "key." !Q@#$ machine should work properly to begin with. (That's the German DNA in me. LOL) This may be a one-time glitch yours experienced. Perhaps an unnoticeable (to the naked eye) brown-out or power surge in the electrical supply caused it. These are computers that wash clothes, and I have seen what these little brown-outs and/or power surges can do to an embroidery machine.

Having raised a family of kids, I can say that getting one to adopt considerate habits for sneezing and coughing isn't easy. Look around in public, it isn't like all adults have caught on either. With kids, I found it mostly didn't happen until well into teenage years, if then. Those who think this is a simple habit for a kid to pick up are either much better at child training than we were, or don't have any kids. I gonna bet the latter. Airplanes are notorious for catching diseases, it's just the chance that has to be taken when you take a flight. I agree with chi83, people often can't change travel plans just because they've taken ill. It's happened to me many times on both the giving and the receiving end. As the expression goes, stuff happens, you just need to move on. Someone who is susceptible or at risk for catching airborne-spread diseases should avoid enclosed public places, including going to a religious service when flu or other diseases are active in your area. You know what can happen to you when other people and kids are around, why be angry or surprised about it?

Ever consider Costa Rica?? They have 10 climate zones
both oceans , scuba ,white water, real rainforests Any kind of accomadations you can imagine. Almost a quarter of the entire country is parks so you can be as alone ,not alone as you chose.lol The flora and fauna is mind boggling. Ground trans is excellant as is air.
Have nothing against Hawaii,Caribbean just sooo much more to see and do for a lot less money
have meet many people traveling alone there even to very remote areas. but you can always go with a tour group either arranged here or there depending on where you want to go and how much time??

Costa Rico is very dangerous, don't believe it if you are told differently. I was there and the guides were saying it is safe to wander around alone. Later on a cruise I was discussing this with someone and she said her brother married a woman from PR. He moved there set up his dental and had children. He carried a gun, there was a gun in every room of their home, guns in his dental office and bars on all the windows. When the children grew up they went to college in the US and never came home and they were begging the parents to move to the states where it is safe.
