Alec Baldwin's voicemail message

Hi everyone, I'm sure you've heard about his voicemail to his young daughter by now. It is wholly inappropriate to leave such a message for an 11 or so year old child.

HOWEVER, I have to admit that as I listened to the message, I felt sorry for him. I know what he was feeling -- the frustration with being shut out of his daughter's life, the being fed up with an ex-wife who manipulates the child such that she turns her phone off or doesn't take his calls at pre-determined times. I felt his pain because I have watched my husband go through the same thing. Fortunately, my husband never lost his temper like Alec Baldwin did, but he certainly felt EXACTLY the same way -- it is rude, unacceptable and mean to do to a father who wants desparately to love the child and have a relationship. So, while I don't think he should have said those things to his daughter, we can't lose sight of how painful it is for the parent who is shut out. He was feeling frustrated and desparately wanted to hear from his daughter.

I think he does understand that the approach was wrong, and I hope that he finds a way (through therapists....) to communicate with his daughter and that they can see how his daughter's rejection of him has to be related to her mother's influence -- what 11 year old wouldn't miss her Daddy and want to talk to him whenever she can. Especially if she lives far away from him......

I feel sorry for him and for the child and I really hope they can find a way to come together. It doesn't look good for my husband and his now 20 year old daughter, and I hope that Mr. Baldwin doesn't have to face the same with his beloved daughter.

I agree that he must have been very frustrated. If his frustration was with Kim Bassinger he should have taken the matter up with her rather than leaving a wholly unappropriate message for his daughter. That was so rediculous and it makes me sick to think any father would speak to his child that way. He called her a pig! There is NO excuse for that! I can't blame his daughter if she doesn't want to speak to him if that is the way he speaks to her.

If he was frustrated with his ex, he needed to deal with his ex. He did NOT need to bring his daughter into the middle of it.

My friends keep asking me to play but I don't want to. Even though I do like Scrabble. I've heard a lot of people cheat at the game and even admit to doing it. I am SO addicted to Angry Birds though! I haven't played games like this one since Mario Brothers first came out. lol. I stopped playing when all the Nintendo controllers got complicated. Angry Birds is fun because it's not timed, and it has a lot of little secrets like Mario had. Before I got my iPad, I kept hearing about Angry Birds constantly. They even sell stuffed animals. I had no idea what the big deal was. It's a huge deal. lol. I believe it's the most popular game out there right now. There's fun strategy, too. I kind of got off topic didn't I? It's my addiction talking. :)

Thanks, pesky. I figured it would be the retread-narrative issue...it worked my nerves a fair bit, definitely (although I have to admit I've never seen Fern Gully--now that I read the synopsis I'd say I definitely agree. Wow.) Maybe it's just my wish to rationalize that made me able to see how the retreads were reborn by the particular plot structure, with the interaction of actual hard science (represented by Sigourney Weaver, one of my favorite actors -- gotta give him credit for putting an older woman in a position of rational authority rather than a man--means a lot to me as I enter menopause) rather than fairies, and a multinational/multiplanetary corporation that's above the law. The story that's most cited so far in reviews I've read is Dances with Wolves, and I can really agree on that one as well, with small twists. Despite the retreadness, I found myself thinking that Cameron is simply, undeniably, a brilliant guy and I wanted to thank him for doing what he did. Every aspect of the world is so completely thought out, and the technology so significant that I decided that criticizing the dramaturgy would be meanspirited, ungenerous, would be demanding too much of just one person (that's just me, and I'm realizing my opinions are colored by nearing 50 rather than being an insistent young critic as I was earlier). Of course Cameron is arrogant, etc. but he has *inarguably* moved film ahead drastically by his passionate imagination.

Well Kat, one of our friends told us it was very depressing but we waned to see it anyway. I am not sorry I saw it. I thought it was a little slow starting (in fact, I dozed off) but once I got into it I found it interesting. But, hey, a movie about a guy who spends his entire life flying from city to city to fire people how upbeat can it be?

    I agree with jerseystepmom 100%

Clearly, this was grossly inappropriate and this will no doubt permanently effect the relationship between AB and his daughter. But, I am not jumping to the thought that this is an indication of how he actually feels about his child. I think this is an extreme example of how the parent-child dynamic (sometimes) gets completely dysfunctional in a divorce situation. Shame on both of the parents for dropping the ball on communication and putting their child in this position.

kkny- I also completely agree with you that whomever "leaked" this to the press should be taken to task. How in the world turning this horrible display into a national issue could have any positive outcome for the child, I will never know.

Coolmama, go to TMZ.com, you can listen to the message there. It is outrageous. I'm sure if anybody spoke to your daughter that way, she wouldn't want to speak to him either. I know if somebody spoke to me like that, It would be a long time before I could feel comfortable talking to them again.

I heard it...I think it's terrible.Seems like Alec took his anger from Kim out on his daughter. In some way though I can see him being upset, but obviously that message was totally wrong. He needs to be more constructive with his anger. Those words will undoubtedly scar his relationship with his child.

I don't have any sympathy for him at all. There is nothing an 11 year old could do that would warrant that kind of abuse. Maybe there is a reason we don't know about that is causing the mother not to talk to him. I was told the mother and her lawyer probably leaked it to the press.

Yes jonesy, I read the same thing. She is actually in trouble for contempt of court because they were told it was not to be discussed. I don't think it was right for her to leak it to the press. However, that kind of abuse of your daughter is so completely wrong, I can't say I blame Kim Basinger for wanting people to know exactly what kind of a "man" her ex-husband is. He doesn't even know how old his daughter is!

The fact that he didn't know how old she was bothered me, too. It is one thing to momentarily forget that your daughter has turned 12, but to say that she was 12 when she was still 11 isn't something you would expect from an involved parent.

I dont have sympathy for him...but we dont know everything that could have transpired between them before this happend.
Either way,I'm not making excuses for him. It was wrong.
I have seen my husband's daughter diss him many times before and saw how much it hurt him. So all I'm saying is I can maybe understand why he was upset. Yet,he should never, ever speak to his child that way.

I am from the same hometown as Alec Baldwin...(Massapequa,NY).I have, also, had the pleasure of waiting on him several times when I lived in East Hampton(before moving to BF,NC)...He is a mean, nasty, arrogant, snob who talks to everyone "under" him that way!! And we are all under him!!He has a violent temper, and has had many a confrontation with people in "his" way.If anyone on here has come from an abusive marriage, you can zero in on him a mile away!! She is probably trying to protect herself and their daughter. The call said it all!! I don't want to listen to him , I had 2yrs. of phone calls like that to my daughter from the dead beat dad..they are hard to live through..believe me,please!! I,most certaintly, do not feel sorry for him because I have seen him in action!!! Think how fun that marriage must have been for her and the child if he can talk that way...enough said!!! Gin

    hi guys,

Let me start off by saying I am no Alec Baldwin fan. He lost it in my eyes when he wanted to leave the country if Bush was elected. But as we have all been saying many times here, that we are not the ones to judge. People on other forums are saying that he should never be able to see his daughter again. I think that he does need some serious anger management therapy, but Kim B is using that child as a weapon against him, and that is blatently obvious. While I don't condone what he did, because really who could defend that? No parent is perfect and we don't always do what we are supposed to do, or say what we are supposed to say. Just because he's a celebrity doesn't make him any less human. Having said that, I still think, he's a jerk in many many other ways, and that *does* have to do with his celebrity status.

    peace

I don't think that he should never see his daughter again, but I do think that his daughter should be able to choose if she wants to see him for the time being and that if she wants to have somebody else around than she should be able to. I think that if I were his daughter and he spoke to me that way, it would be a long time before I would care to be around him by myself again. Even if Kim B is using their daughter as a weapon against him, there is no excuse for speaking to your daughter that way.

And who released this message to thepress? Kim?

There was no need to release to the press,it could have just been played ot the court. And that was an act not in anger, but delibertat

If he hadn't done what he did, there would be nothing to report to the press. You'd think somebody in the public eye would be even more careful about what he says and does.

It's not only about him, it is about her. Why would Kimwant to embarrass her daugheter

They are not sure who it was who released it....Kim B. says she did not do it. The tape was not concealed. It was originally used for her attorney for their upcoming court. (from what I understand this morning - 24th). Maybe the dauther released it? Maybe she is tired of her father treating her this way....supposedly she made a statement that she was used to it. It really does not matter who released it....HE said these things. My husband has been VERY discourged at the ex for allienating the kids from him....NEVER did he act like this, and for sure never talked to his kids this way. Alec B. has a temper, everyone knows this. If it was anyone who was no one, would you feel the same? This guy is sickening, he wants control, and was pissed because it was taken away from him. Maybe Kim had a right to release it, if she did, mayber she wanted to show the world just want an ass he really is. What ginster said, I think most people envision him exactly the way you explained! Oh but now RosieO is backing him. She said it was normal to yell at your kid, maybe, but not the way he and she has now confessed to cursing while yelling. Any parent who does this, is not fit to be a parent.

I am not going to say that it was acceptable for him to talk to his daughter that way -- it was reprehensible. And as Jenny Alabama says - our husbands have never talked to their children this way, but, I assure you there were times when he wanted to! This child is very young, which I think makes this worse.

Maybe he does have a temper and maybe he does think he is better than everyone, but he still appears to be a father cut off from his daughter who is hurting and wants to change the situation. Even if he is a control freak, this emotion comes from wanting to see his daughter. . . and if they had agreed upon times to talk, then she should (by her mother's guidance) have those talks. We don't know all the facts and thankfully a court will hear them and decide what is best for the girl. Come on, the girl is so young that she must be getting coaching from her mother on this. It is her mother's duty to ensure that she talks to her father -- even if she hates him (that is Kim or the kid, but as we all know an 11 year old doesn't usually hate a parent in the absence of overt abuse, unless the other parent makes it clear that they are expected to feel that way).

I'm not making excuses for him....the tone and attack was wrong. But I just can't help but feel -- wow, he looks so bad here and we all can relate to those same feelings, can't we?! (we have the internal filter that wouldn't allow us to vocalize it, but......).

I guess I feel especially sensitive on this because my husband's ex is a soft spoken, quiet kind of woman who manipulates, lies and does whatever she needs to do. So while this kind of behavior has everyone upset, those who would never raise their voice or say a "bad" word can also damage their children in horrible ways. I have often said that if the abuse our biomom inflicted on her children resulted in bruises, she would be in jail.

As I tell my stepkids all the time: actions speak louder than words. In our BM's case that means, don't just listen to her, watch what she does and doesn't do. In Alex's case it means that he lost control of his words, but what are his actions around the child? Does he really want to be her Daddy -- and a good one? Does he make the time and effort to try to be in her life? Guess it's up to the courts to decide now.........

It doesn't suprise me that Rosie is backing him up on this. She is a lunatic! Have you heard the majority of the things she has been saying lately?

Ugh,What happend to Rosie O? She used to be nice and funny. I cant stand her anymore.

I agree...she needs to be fired! And you know I guess my main gripe is that some of these people, Baldwin, Rosie, can get away with this. They think they have the power to treat and bad mouth anyone - whether it be the President, IMUS, or their own child. All I know is I do not say the things in front of or to my child (the F word, pig) and if I hear someone say those words the first thing that comes to my mind are trash and control. To me, if Baldwin really loved his kid, he would have never said the things he said. It came awful easy for him from the sound of the taped call. Not to mention, he is going right back to court to keep the fight going, even though he said what he said. He should let it go and try and get the relationship back with his daughter. He is not reprimanded for any of his actions. Wonder if the Clintons are proud of him now?

You know, if more of us would change the channel when "The View" comes on, maybe her ratings would decrease and she wouldn't have the platform she has now. I have to admit, I have watched it a time or two, it's kinda like a train wreck, you just can't look away. She won't even close her mouth long enough to allow anybody else to get a word in edgewise. I don't know how Elizabeth Hasselbeck can stand to get up and go to work every morning. I just thank my lucky stars I don't have to work with somebody like that! Ughh!

I wonder how many of us stepmoms', after seeing how our stepdaughters' treat our husbands, wish or imagine that our DH would tell his daughter just what he thought of her behavior? After seeing all the times our DHs' daughter disrespected him, ignored his phone calls, won't return phone calls, refused to send thank you notes for gifts, and blatantly disrespect their fathers' wife, say they don't want to come visit (during ONE of his TWO visitations a year) for whatever reason, treat the stepmoms' kids like dirt, only call because they need money, ect.ect.ect. Even if the behavior is caused by bio-moms actions, we all have seen the pain it causes in our husbands. I know there were times my husband wanted to cut loose and tell his daughter what he thought of her behavior. I feel for Mr Baldwin and his daughter. But let's be honest, even though we don't agree with his actions, how many of us understand it?

Hey Jenny, Did you hear the news? Rosie is leaving The View. Isn't that funny that we were just talking about it?

Girl, I was just getting on here to tell you that!! I think we had something to do with it.. :) Was she asked to leave? Do you know?

Ha Ha...It was totally all us! :)

I'm not really sure why she is leaving. I read something about her tenure expiring. I guess that means that a) ABC didn't renew her contract b) They didn't want to give her as much $ as she wanted in order for her to renew her contract or c) she decided she didn't want to stay.

Odds are, because it is a private deal, they probably won't ever say what happened and why she is leaving, but I'd like to believe that the reason is A.

I, too think that RO has gotten a little out of control and am glad she's leaving. I read on Foxnews.com that it had to do with the fact that ABC wanted her to commit to a 3yr contract (locked in salary), and she only wanted to commit to a year, so she would have the ability to negotiate her pay on an annual basis. Neither side would give, so the whole deal is over.
My thoughts---if ABC wanted her to stay, they'd have done whatever it would have taken to make herr happy. Clearly, they weren't that concerned with keeping her.

ps---Donald Trump is already taking the credit for all of this! ;)

Oh my God that is sooo weird! Gives credit to the power words have.

Isn't that the truth....I heard today that she was trying to push BABA Walters out and they had words, so now she is gone! Doesn't matter, she is leaving, now if we can just rid of _________ (just a blank for anyone to fill in - since we have the power) :):) We better be careful though.
