Lazy/inconsistant parenting vent

BF is a great partner, and he's mostly a great dad, with a few dumb@55 moments of course... I need to vent about this dumb@55 moment to other moms and SMs and FSMs.

On Sunday I was fed up with BF (after the stupid comment about wiping) and I thought maybe the guys could use a little one-on-one time to smooth things over. So I went bra shopping (which I knew would take all afternoon).

Upon my return, I found that BF had gone to take A__ back to GM's house, but that toys were still scattered all over the living room.

Now, we've been working very hard with A__ on "clean up after yourself" including toys, personal hygiene, kitchen and bathroom, etc, so I was miffed, but thought there would be a reasonable explanation. FYI, we have also been working really hard on "stalling doesn't get you anywhere"...

When BF got home I asked (nonchalantly and nicely) "What's with A__'s toys all over the living room? You didn't ask him to pick them up before he left?"

"Well, yeah, I did, but then I was sick of his stalling and how long it was taking him, so we left and I said I'd do it when I got home."

WHAT?!? Again, I must ask WHAT THE H3LL WAS HE HOPING TO ACCOMPLISH?? That has to be the most backwards logic BF has ever come up with! He was stalling, so you told him he didn't have to do what he was trying to avoid doing by stalling? Did you forget your brain at work on Friday evening?

A__ stalls all the time, so I say "____ needs to be done. Do you need five minutes or ten?" (Thanks for that idea, whoever it was... TOS maybe? Momof4 maybe?) He always chooses the longer time, and then I set the timer. Then I say something like "I will do the dishes while you do that" so he's not mad that he's doing work while I sit around and watch him.

Once I made up some imaginary laundry and sat on my bedroom floor relaxing with a pile of socks that I took out of the drawer, until A__ came in and I said "Perfect timing! These socks are my last thing to put away!"

It works like a charm and A__ doesn't stall nearly so bad for me anymore. He has a limit for a set task, and doesn't feel he's being picked on, so it all works.

I asked BF if he was helping with cleanup or doing something else while A__ stalled his cleanup and he said "No, I was standing around with my coat on"

A__ does NOT thrive under pressure, so who knows what BF was thinking!

Bleearrrgh! I think maybe testosterone DOES kill brain cells!
