What cabinet wood species with medium-stained red oak floors?

We are refinishing our red oak floors with a medium stain (probably Minwax fruitwood). I had thought I would pick white cabs, but now I'm leaning toward wood, and am having trouble picking a species. I think I read somewhere that with oak floors, I should stick with oak or cherry cabs. Is this good advice? Cabs are full overlay shaker style. There is an island that could have a darker finish. I was thinking maybe natural oak, cut to minimize grain, on the perimeter and black/brown stain on the island. Anybody have species/color inspiration? I'd like to stay away from paint.

We are installing a QS red oak floor and QS white oak cabinets. I guess we are doing the opposite of what you are proposing... The floors will just be sealed with no stain and the cabinets will have Miniwax red oak stain. We wanted the wood to complement each other but definitely be distinct so they didn't "blend into" each other.

Our cabinets are ash (original to the house) refinished with Minwax cherry stain. Floors are white oak stained Minwax red mahogany.

We have white oak kitchen cabinets with a very light stain. Our house was originally built with white oak floors, which we thought were red oak. We had to replace quite a few boards and we used red oak so now we have a red and white oak floor (definitely by accident). I'm with you on the white oak being nicer. Despite the efforts of our floor refinisher, the red oak still has a pinkish cast to it. In order to make the white and red oaks really blend, we would have had to go with darker stain on the floor, which we didn't want. Have you checked local cabinet makers for prices for white oak cabinets. We found that some could only get red oak and others could only get white oak. The guy who could only get white oak wasn't any more expensive than the guy who could only get red oak.

IMO you ask who ever is doing the refinishing of the floors to see what they use and make sure they do samples for sure and then take those samples and move them around to see how they look in different spaces make sure your lighting is all LED 4000k too.

Why not maple? It will make the grains in your floors stand out, while your cabs will be cleaner (especially if you're going with a shaker style.

Our floors are red oak, stained a medium brown. Our maple island and desk/pantry area will be a darker brown, and the perimeter cabs will be painted white.

We chose an unstained maple for our cabinets. They work well with the honey tones of the oak flooring.

We've painted since this photo was taken, but this photo is a good representation of the colors.

our floors are oak, it's called "marsh" but i would say it's really like minwax "early american". the cabinets are medium/dark cherry. we like it. i think the ideal combo with golden oak floors would be black cabinets, actually. i think that would be gorgeous, but our house was too dark for that....kren
