1950s Kitchen Counter Help, Opinions wanted!
Comments (21)Imhappy&Iknowit IOWA zone 6b: Oh, I love that site! I have definitely wasted evenings scrolling through sites like that :D cpartist I have some of the samples of the Retro Renovation boomerang laminates, and I like them, but I don't know if I will tire of them. Both my husband and I are alllmost there, but not quite. taylvs3: We were pretty close to going with white Corian, but we feel like it would be very unforgiving with our boys. No go on painting the cupboards yet, the wood is so pretty :)...See More1950s Kitchen Counter Help, Opinions wanted!
Comments (32)We used B&W tile! I think they are called American Tile now- these are the 27S Aqua Satin. The website has their catalog of sizes- they carry a lot of sizes and shapes! We used them them for our green bathroom and we are doing a pink and aqua bathroom this summer- they have just the right shades of pastel!...See More1950’s Kitchen Bandaid
Comments (14)You'll be getting it ready to sell if you are only using it occasionally in the next year. Interview a couple very active real estate agents to get their advice about fixing up the house for sale. Markets are local. If they recommend doing the minimum, here's what I suggest. Have the sheet vinyl flooring stripped or cleaned professionally, then sealed with a couple coats of floor finish (Pledge makes one). Paint the walls in a warm off white that will go with the honey colored wood cabinets. Replace the light switches and GFCI outlets with white ones. Do any repairs that have been pending. Wash the diffuser on the fluorescent fixture and change the old graying tubes to new ones. If you want to have a dishwasher for your visits, you can buy a portable dishwasher (some can be converted to permanent installations later) you can put next to the stove....See MoreLooking for tips/ ideas! 1950s Home exterior
Comments (2)Lots of potential here as it's sort of a blank slate. Looks like a couple of additions gave the house different roof lines. Regarding a porch, you may run into complications with marrying the two roof lines. Have you considered a pergola instead? You'll have to figure out how to handle covering up the basement window however but I'm sure it can be done. At some point, you probably want to change out the windows for a different look but not sure that is in your budget. Everything is very expensive right now. Also don't know the look/style you are going for. If you paint the brick, you have to have much taller landscaping on the right side for interest otherwise it will look like a big blank wall. If you do nothing else, completely filling the front between the house and the walkway with a well planned landscaping will make a huge difference. Nice before and after pics on this one Suggest you post the kitchen question under a different topic....See Moresjerin
