Curved shower rod end placement
Comments (17)nosoccermon, that's a good deal. The guy who put the rod up says the tile cut like butter. Then he couldn't figure out why the screw anchors wouldn't go into the wall and realized he had hit a stud, on both sides. Yay! Before the rod was installed, while I was still all a-dither, I put the rings on it and hung a curtain so I could hold it up and gauge the correct height. I noticed yesterday that there are some scratches on the rod from putting the rings on ONCE. Ridiculous for a $40 from Moen. They really don't show unless you stand on the edge of the tub which, once the workers are gone, will be forbidden. Why do the ring/hook things have such sharp points anyway?...See MoreWhere will I find a drapery rod that's 11 feet wide?
Comments (18)Hi dana g, all I've done so far is take one of the rods out of the box! At first, I thought there was a problem with the rod because it extended only 24". I called the store and the woman I spoke with told me that BOTH ends extend. I felt so silly, but I think this will work in my favor to disguise the slight difference in the diameter of the rod as it is extended. The panels on either side will probably cover the extension, with only the center portion showing. We'll see. This is going to be a long, slow process for me. Tomorrow I hope to remove the existing window treatments and patch the holes left from them. After that, I can hang the poles. Then the panels will need some slight alterations. I thought you were using actual closet rods, but instead Lowes has drapery rods in the larger diameter. And it's nice to have all the options with the finials, rings and brackets. Good luck with your project. If I fail with the Opus rods, I'll be looking at Lowes, too. Isn't amazing how what seems like such a simple project can be so complicated? Please post pictures of your window when it's complete....See Morecurtain rod diameter?
Comments (12)Thank you to both of you! Barb-I honestly think I got lucky with the folds. Either that or the interfacing may have been the key. I found that when I put the panel on the rings, the "wave" shape just happened naturally without any fussing when I adjusted the spacing of the rings. Once the top had the wave shape the folds pretty much fell from there. I did follow the folds from the top, down with my hand and then just very loosely put scotch tape around the edges for a couple of days. I would definitely do the interfacing again-I think it really helped. That being said the panels are actually linen so the chance of them staying like that are pretty slim! Plus this is in our family room and we have three young children so there's no hope at all! The dots are in fact embroidered. They're actually the Linen Embroidered Dot ones from Country Curtains. This neutral, blend-in-with-the-wall look is totally new for me. I usually go with something more contrasting and patterned but I've noticed in a lot of decorating pictures (namely Pottery Barn pics) the curtains almost fade into the background and the pillows and accesories provide more of the interest. So I'm going to give that a try and see how it goes. Right now the room is a complete blank slate because we recently moved in and there's a couch, a TV on an end table and curtains! So, I've got a long way to go! As far as the return, my pins are just evenly spaced with the first and last pins being at the very end of the fabric. The pins are about 8 inches apart. I think this rod sits closer to the wall than the Opus one so the end of the panel was very close to the wall to begin with. Most of the time I think silk panels have more of a relaxed look in terms of the folds. I thought yours looked great when you posted them. You had me rethinking my linen ones because the silk was beautiful. I don't think you even need to train the folds at all. By the way, Joann Fabrics sold that Tempo Tape we both considered. Thanks for your ideas along the way. I couldn't have figured this project out without your input!...See MoreRod pockets or Rings?
Comments (9)I've always done the pocket rod thing, but my new PB drapes were pictured with rings so that's what I bought. Love them. Makes opening and closing the drapes so much easier and they look good too. In fact, I'm going to put rings on the drapes in another room where the window is also so high I have to have a "grabber" tool to push the drapes apart because the bunching of the material makes them get "stuck". Not sure how to add rings to a drape that is made strictly for a rod tho. Where do I clamp the ring on? somewhere at the top of a pleat I presume....See Morechicagoans
