From what billhill said, after slit seeding you would be ok to walk on the seeding ground. I have to assume some level of walking would be possible, being careful of course. If the seeds are ok to run a roller over to get good soil contact, a footstep or carefully driven wheel barrow wheel can't be too hard. At some point the 80/20 principle has to come into effect. Worst case, I'll have a few places that need a little more seed come spring. I would hope the compost does more good than harm in this case. I have 8k sf and I've calculated that needs a little over 6 cu yds of compost to cover 1/4". That'll be 27 wheel barrow loads for me. I'm envisioning the best way to spread the compost in a seed-friendly way will be to get a 5-gallon bucket, sharpen one side of the mouth so it slices into a wheel barrow full of compost easily and shake to cover. I don't anticipate it being a quick job but after having moved river rock by the wheel barrow load, this seems to be time consuming but not necessarily back breaking. The reason for my original question that started this thread was because the only way I could envision putting out this much compost was to wheel barrow into piles and then spread with a rake. As I think about how thick 1/4" really is, I think the raking will be much more work than just shaking the compost on. Remain standing upright while shaking compost on the ground to cover or bend over pushing thick piles into thin sheets? I'm open to other ideas though.... I've been researching good ways to put down compost and there are just very few options.

The remainder of the thread is devoted to folks bumping the stupid thing up, frequently, to stay on page 1 where it has some hope of being found by newcomers! Before I lose you, let me draw your attention to the small type to the right of what you're reading here; it's green on my screen. One of those hyperlinks allows you to save a posting (and no, not a whole thread, maddeningly) to a space in your account for future reference. Cooper - I can't believe I didn't think about taping off the painted part. I'd do it outside with a respirator. Hhireno - I've never been to SF. I never gave a thought to seals being stinky! It definitely could be a worse smell. Some people might even LIKE the smell of the drawers. I really wish I did! Irish - From reading about those, it sounds like you have to replace them every so often? I think I'm going to buy both the absorbers and something for in the drawers while I'm out. If I don't end up using the absorbers in the drawers I have some other places I'd like to try them. I'm glad to hear they worked for you too. Tuesday - Thanks! I'm really leaning towards a spray vs. brush. However... if only the inside of the drawers are sealed, is it safe to assume the smell might not completely be gone since it could be in the inside and under side of the dresser? Does that make sense?

So i read most of the thread here and i am still at loss here... i don't have that much laundry as i been waiting forever for my only bottle of tide to finish its half way done. What do most recommend Persil combo for washing or something else? I have stopped using dryer sheets as my gas dryer produces little to no static and clothes come out smelling fine to me. I was thinking of getting persil universal and persil colour (megaperls) but after reading this thread i am back to square one.
