anyone have good ideas for using old keys? like the recycling idea and think keys would be fun.....

Danny, Did you just recently move to the south? The bugs are harmless and known as "love bugs" They show up twice a year sometimes in HUGE numbers. once in the spring and once toward fall. They don't bite, don't even feed as adults (far as I know) but do land on people and make a mess on the front of cars. Your leaves have sooty mold. As a rule it grows on the leaves because of the secretions left or dropped by aphids. Does the new growth have aphids? Get rid of them and wipe the leaves off. You go girl! That's great! With my slow dial up it takes a while for a picture to download. I read what you said you used to make it, and went to let the dogs out. When I came back and the picture had downloaded I was pleasantly surprised! It was so much more than I expected. It's beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Too hot here too. For the last month and a half it's been too hot and too wet for much outside stuff. Now it's just too hot. I'm hoping to get in an hour or so towards evening before the mosquitoes find me. Love your pretty windchime.

your brother had the same graduation date as my younger brother... you must still miss him... first ideas that came to my mind was also a birdhouse... mosaiced, with a few keys in places, with local little pebbles, from the river, moss from your backyard trees... little branches and any found things from your property.. if possible, his car license plate for the roof of the bird house.... second idea was to get several 6" tiles, from like Home Depot or Lowes...and make a frame around the door of one of doors at your house/cabin...in a Spanish idea they could be attached with some ready mixed grout/adhesive, with things attached to the tiles, in a mosaic idea but not necessarily grouted.. just bits and pieces, again, with the keys and found articles from the area, where you live.. tiles will be available in either white or an antiqued color..I've been painting the ones I have and firing them, so one day I can either do the door frame, like I mentioned or the back splash along the kitchen counter.. I love anything PNW, in art work...shells, rocks, glass, rust, ...I would do my entire house on the outside, if I had the stamina to do it...lol Becky....Olympia

I've seen boxes and chests mosaiced entirely with them, or you could use them in mixed media mosaics. It's not even necessary to grout the item, just glue them on w/a strong glue that drys clear.

Mount them in a pleasing pattern and hang on the wall. Or mount them in a frame. Next to the front door would be my first choice. You can get several different size frames with glass at Michaels, choose a background fabric to complement you decor, mount the keys, and there you are, homemade art. I've also seen them framed with decorative knobs and plates. I have some really big old rusty ones from a Mexican jail. I just put them on a big ring and hung them from a knob on my shelf. If you have new ones that you want to make look rusty (I like the look), someone just posted how to rust things over on Gardenjunk forum. :) ~Anj

Picked up my daughter and her friends from college last night and one of the girls was wearing an old key on a chain around her neck.....said it was the fad in Southern California.

Interesting but I would bend over and hurt myself with that key.....
