Daybed vs/ sofabed
Comments (9)I am also debating the sofa bed vs. daybed thing for the loft room in our condo. Or maybe I should just go with air mattresses for the occasional extra bed. I managed to forget about this for a few months so I'm glad the topic was brought back to my attention. Summer & extra guests are just around the corner. Have you seen the Simplicity sofa website? I am not affiliated with this company, I only offer the idea to you for your research. They have sofa beds with blow up mattresses, which really intrigues me. And their sofas arrive in pieces so it would be easy to carry & set up, unlike the heaviness of a real sofa bed. But how do they hold up? I don't know anyone with direct experience with them. Now that I'm thinking about it again I should search this site for any comments from prior customers. When one of my friends visits her family, she sleeps on an inflatable sofa bed & says it's very comfortable. She and her husband sleep on it for 1-2 months at a time so it must be okay. I don't know if the one she uses is from Simplicity Sofas or another mfg. What concerns me is that when I've slept on an air mattress, on the floor not as part of a sofa bed, I found them very cold & uncomfortable. A real sofa bed is better looking but much more expensive and in addition is very heavy to carry upstairs to the loft room. And are they more comfortable? I'll never sleep in it but I want the guests to be comfortable. But not too comfortable or they'll never leave. Now you can see why I put this out of my mind! Bottom line for me is looks-wise a sofa bed, with a real or inflatable mattress, does look the best in a room that isn't a dedicated guest room....See MoreFour More Botanical Prints Arrived and Are Up over Daybeds (photo
Comments (23)The best part of this project completion has been DH's reaction. The basement furnishings are more transitional / modern feeling and more masculine. He came into the area and sat down on a sofa, looked around and said, "This is REALLY nice." He looked carefully at everything, sat in all the chairs and sofas and claimed a sofa for his own. From a man of few words, this was high praise! After the final botanical charts and pieces of majolica are up I am finished with this space in terms of accessories, we are going to take the light off the fan (wasn't supposed to be there) and finish up the bathroom, but essentially the living spaces are complete. That is a great feeling, to know there's nothing more to shop for, especially since my initial thought was that the charts would be placeholders for "real" art (paintings). I am so glad we made the decision to do the whole space with those prints and I don't need to to change any of it in the future unless I just want to....See MoreUsing a day bed as a sofa...
Comments (39)Well, changing linens won't be that much of an issue, since it might get slept on maybe twice a year....but I do wonder if the back on the Overstock one is just too high. I have now realized that the "day bed" in the inspiration pic isn't even a day bed after all! Just a regular twin bed. I still want a day bed. This may be my late summer/early fall project. This house was reno'd 7 years ago and we just threw stuff in the room without much thought. Now my wheels are turning... of course I'll need a different (taller) table and a new rug and and funky floor lamp or wall sconce...and of course tons of pillows....See MoreNeed a low-profile, non-kiddie-style daybed
Comments (39)That looks great, Sue! We keep the sheets for those beds in the baskets. A couple of tips... we found that cotton jersey (knitted) sheets fit those French mattresses better than a woven cotton. Also, to keep the mattresses from moving buy one of those waffle type rubber rug pads and cut it to fit the top of the base. It will provide enough grip to keep the mattress in place. That is a darling little table btw!...See MoreRelated Professionals
