I know colors can vary but these are so far off. But, I guess they warned you by saying they looked more yellow. Send them back. So sorry for all your troubles. Shopping should be a no brainer!

Aww, so sorry you're so frustrated :( the chairs unfortunately do look yellowy and that they'll clash w/ the paint color. Either send them back or change the paint color if that's an option?

That is so difficult to have that many things going wrong. I am sorry. The cream would have been so perfect...but those chairs are the wrong color for sure. c

How frustrating! I think that the color depicted in the ad photo would look great, but that's sure not what you were sent. I'd ask the retailer to provide a UPS call tag (pick them up at their expense to return for a full refund) since you did not receive exactly what you ordered. If those are the JCP "Belmont" chairs (they look similar, IIRC), I think that JCP will indeed take care of the return and refund appropriately. You may need to offer to email them the two photos to demonstrate how far off the actual color is from antique white. It's a shame because they would have been so attractive in the right color.

Thanks, for the support it's really appreciated. I did buy them from JCP because I knew I could return them if I HAD to, I was just so hoping that would not be the case. At least they aren't damaged. LOL

The part that has me completely deflated now is, what do I do for chairs? It took me months to settle on the ones I did. The other one I was considering is made by the same manufacturer so I suspect they're the same color of "white" I really like that style but similar chairs are quite a bit more cost wise. arggg... And, I can't finish the table until I have the chairs so I can match the color.

That style chair (though not exact) is very common. You could try an unfinished wood store, though I would buy Amish-built and choose my own paint color. That, though, could be pricy.

But, if they were a good price, and you like everything about them but the color (which it sounds as if you do), buy a good quality oil paint and paint them yourself. You're already planning on painting your table. Then you'll know your table and chairs will match.

I'm so sorry, ordering online can be so frustrating. I ordered my counter height stools 4 years ago from Target.com, and they came as a set of 2 with free shipping. I am very happy with them, and their quality. I just quickly went over there and took a look to see if I could find something affordable with a similar look. I found these, although they aren't the same exact back. Maybe they can work as an alternative?

Do you have some furniture stores in your area, or an unfinished furniture place? Buying online is a great thing, but with something like this, it may be better to do some local shopping where you can see and sit in and know the finish you are going to get.

The unfinished furniture places, as deeinohio suggests, can be great places to find what you want, and get the finish you want, or have the person painting the hutch paint the chairs for you, as suggested.

Dee, thanks for the suggestion, I was actually going to go that route in the beginning. We have a Naked Furniture locally, but their pricing with paint for one was more than twice the cost of these chairs which are sold in pairs. Both chairs were parawood. I would LOVE to have Amish chairs, I just don't think they're in the budget. :c(

Polly, Thank you for finding those chairs. I saw those on Overstock but their version is called the Mackenzie. I'm hesitant to order online from a store that doesn't have a brick and mortar location locally so Target may be the way to go. I'll put them on the list.

Crazy thought-- do you like the chair color? I don't really mind it. Seems like it would go with the hutch? Maybe you can reconsider the wall color, since that has not been done?

The yellow seems sort of cheery, but I also understand not wanting to have to work around a color you do not want!

Sorry Les, we posted at the same time. That's the problem, I'm about 40 minutes north of Detroit and there is nothing here! I drove an hour to Ann Arbor a couple of weeks ago just to look at the chairs World Market, then I drove an hour in the other direction to Pottery Barn outlet, Naked furniture is the only unfinished furniture store and the few local furniture stores we have just don't cut it.
We have some work we need to get done in our kitchen so I really hate to spend more then 100-125 per chair. And if possible, I'd really like a solid white so I don't have to worry about the woods between the table & the chairs complimenting each other.

Maybe I should get all wood chairs and just try to find a wood that will work with the table top.

Thanks Anele, I'm going to hold on to that idea as well...but I'm not so sure this is such a good yellow. I'm going to take some daylight photos of it in the space tomorrow and see what everyone thinks.

I don't think it's a bad color at all, but it IS so different from what you were expecting! Sorry about this frustration, and all the other ones.

I agree with everyone else. While it would look lovely in creme, that is definitely not it! I'm sorry you've had so much bad luck lately with your decorating purchases. Just wondering, is black totally not an option anymore? I did like the black in the earlier mockups as well and it'd be much easier to match, esp. as other than the color it seems you really like the chairs.

So much is ordered online these days it's a shame there isn't an inexpensive version of the Pantone System buyers and sellers could use to indicate the color. There's an online fabric store that uses a small color chart you can buy and they refer to it when they describe the colors in the fabrics. So civilized. Fewer headaches.

I'd be bummed out about the chairs and burned out by those other experiences you've had too. If the chairs are comfortable and the price being right, I'd be inclined to keep and paint them and be done with shopping.

Hey, I just looked and there is an IKEA between Detroit and Ann Arbor. They have a lot of chairs, several that I think could work for you, at a price that could make them either worth painting, or even something to use for a couple of years and then replace. The parsons-style chairs (Henriksdal)have all sorts of slipcovers available, which could work, too.

The chairs are definitely yellow - not a bad yellow, but not the ivory shown in your second photo. If they sent the right color chairs but the color is misrepresented in the website, I'd either send them back or repaint them myself.

Knowing me, I'd probably repaint them myself if I liked the style (which is very nice) and if it saved me money over buying different chairs or having someone else paint them, but I like projects and tend to make things more difficult than they need to be :-)

I have the identical chairs with a rush seat. They were white, but wanted a different color. It was my intention to paint them when bought. One can of spray paint for each chair worked. The original finish made this a very easy job and covered evenly. The spray finish looks great and is wearing well.

Now I can't remember where they were bought, but it was an online store.

Don't settle, I would send them back, unless they were a
real bargain, then I would paint them.

You guys are great! I don't think I'd be as frustrated by it (and more willing to paint them) than I am if it wasn't the up-tenth thing to be wrong. I just gave the highlights, but even as recently as 2 days ago, there was an issue with the last set of drapes I've had to buy. I don't mind painting an old piece because I would have bought it with that intent, but to paint new ones like this, I'm dreading that, although...I hadn't thought about the spray paint idea, so thanks for that reminder Emagineer, that may not be quite as bad.

I'll take a look at the Ikea chairs, it's about 40 miles from my house, but worth the trip if there's an option, thank you for that suggestion, Les.

Chickadee, that is such a brilliant idea. It's really not the stores fault (entirely), the manufacturers usually take the pictures for the vendors and it's up to them to get it right. I see the same picture for the different chairs over and over on different sites but the stores should insist that they provide photos that match their products better or at least descriptions that are more accurate cause this is NOT antique white. Some manufacturers on these sites don't even allow returns, can you imagine? I would pay for one of those color charts in a heartbeat!

I don't think black is an option anymore because of the hutch, the colors work together but I'm not sure it's the look I want.

What about wood? Any thoughts on just going with wood chairs?

Personally, I love the color of the chairs. They're not a screaming yellow but a pale yellow according to my monitor.

Everyone here knows I'm not a fan of the color green you have picked out for your walls, lol, I find it depressing. Maybe if you go for a lighter green along with the chairs, the area will be so welcoming and cheery.

I love table cloths (not the traditional one's) and with those chairs you can use color in so many ways. Pale yellow is gorgeous in kitchens/dining rooms. Fresh looking. It's a "clean" color.

I say keep them!

Lukki, how frustrating for you! You really have had to suffer through way too many irritations! I agree with the others who said either paint them if the price was right or return them (now, here is a case where you might be able to get another 10-15% off due to the chairs being quite a different color than advertised). I don't think the color is bad; I just don't think it will ever fit your vision and will always look off with the color of the hutch (which was a great find, btw).

Take a deep breath, put on great music for your drive to Ikea, and know that you will eventually have just what you want (even painted cabinets)!

Cyn, thanks yes, I am afraid of them looking off with the hutch, I'm so incredibly excited about that find, I just can't tell ya! It's unusual for me to find stuff like that. We pick it up tomorrow so I'll have a better visual then.

Ikea does have a chair that looks like it may work, the scale looks a little small but I will go and check it out. I also found some Roman chairs on Overstock where folks are saying the color is creme colored, not yellow (perfect for my needs) so they're an option too.

I didn't know that Oak, I've read all your comments but don't recall you ever saying anything about that. I agree yellow is a great kitchen color, it's what I have now. And this yellow is reminiscent of the yellow used by Sarah Richardson in her farm house kitchen which IMO is beyond perfection. Very pretty in the right room; like if my cabinets were white! grrr, but they're not and the green does work better with the oak cabinets. Though it may not photo well it is a super upbeat and happy color too in person, stronger than the yellow but definitely not depressing.

I was just about to order a bedroom set from jcp for my 3y/o dd, but now w/ your chair issue, I'm worried about the color. The website says it's antique white-- will that really mean yellowy like your chairs? I really wanted plain white to go w/ her purple walls, but now I'm nervous to order it. zaara, I could be wrong but I think it might depend on the manufacturer. Which bed are you considering? Are there any comments about the color being off? The chairs I was considering are also available on other sites like Overstock.com, you may want to see if the bed is available there too as there may be more comments you can read. You'll know it's the same manufacturer because even though it may have a different name, the picture will be the same.

Luck, we talked about green in email many times! It's not all colors of greens though, I'm partial to the lighter, pastel greens.

However, I do like green accessories, just not on walls.

Our builder begged me to paint my kitchen green too!

Oh man, that's was so long ago, I'd forgotten all about it. I was looking through threads to see if I had missed something! LOL :c) I didn't use to like green as much as a I do now. It wasn't until I used it in our own place that I've really gotten into them, especially the citrus greens, they are so pretty to me. Pastels are pretty too, if I had to describe this yellow as anything it would probably fall into the pastel category, and that's fine I just can't say it's right for the space. I think you made a good choice not to paint the green in your kitchen, the floors are the star of your space and the yellow on these chairs would be a perfect match!

Now I'm almost ready to forget the green and am leaning towards painting the dining room and kitchen the same Raffia Creme I've put in the living room. It may sound sort of blah, but the space is open concept and that is a really nice color. The back wall is in all three rooms living room, dining room and kitchen so it just may be the better way too go. It's hard to get all the pieces to fit in one room much less three! I'm really having a tough time with it.

Funny, I just got off the phone with my DH who really liked the chairs and is even more tired of sending stuff back. He suggested painting them! LOL

Don't give up on your vision. I posted a while back: Never decorate around a mistake. The color of these chairs isn't what you want. Don't settle.

Lukki: I agree with Dee, don't give up on your vision of a creamy white kitchen and green walls. From my experience greens are VERY tricky to work with as they can affect the colors of other elements in your space. However, when you get it right, it looks stunning. The chairs really are very pretty, just not the right color. I'd be nervous about painting them and worry that the painted finish would not be as smooth and hard as the factory finish and may wear/chip over time. I hope you can find something suitable in your price range.

I'm still wondering if all wood chairs might work just as well with the white table since it has a wood top too. Then I can match the white for the table with the hutch. Between the floors and the cabinets would it be to much wood?

It could, though you still have to get the match to the table top. Are you planning to use a rug below the table and chairs? Perhaps that may strengthen your long range plan to go with painted cabinets.... Sometimes "mistakes" really end up for the best, it only needs the perspective of time.

How about getting unfinished furniture and having it professionally finished to the exact color you want?

Thanks Suero, that was our preference originally, then we got it priced and @ 200 a piece, it was more than double the cost of 2 chairs prefinished 1 parawood chair. :c(

I'm so sorry you're going through all this. I really like the lines of the chairs but would either paint them or take them back. It makes you wonder why it's so hard manuf. to make something "antique white" or "cream".

Wouldn't a few coats of poly help protect the paint? Whether you used poly, wax, or just paint if they did get a little funky in a few years I don't think it would be too bad to repaint them especially if I couldn't find something else I really liked within my budget.

Are you going to keep them?

What about the guy who painted your cabinet? He might give you a good price to paint the chairs to match.

Shee, Ha, I found out today, it will be at least another 6-8 weeks now before we get the sofa because it isn't expected to ship now till the mid part of August and then there's another couple of weeks for shipping & delivery time! I sure hope we have it before the holidays. LOL
In regards to the chairs, I'm not willing to brush paint 4 chairs but we are seriously considering painting them with spray paint. (if DeeDee's idea doesn't work out)

Deedee, You are brilliant! Thank you so much! I hadn't even thought of that but the owner of the store we got the cabinet from is a real character and he just loves to wheel and deal. He has a woman on staff who does all their painting and he once offered to refinish our dining room table for us. She uses a sprayer for all the base coats and seems to do a good job on other pieces I've seen. I don't see why he wouldn't be willing to work something out with me. Oh! Then they'd match the hutch! We're picking it up tomorrow morning, I'll ask him if he's in. Oh boy, I'm excited now, wouldn't that be great!

Suero, That's a great price unfinished but buying them online means I'd have to paint them and I'm not really up for that. There were a couple of styles we were considering at our local naked furniture store. They had that same chair for something like 109.99 and they wanted 70 to stain it or 80.00 to paint it. Add tax and it was close to 200/chair, which was just more than our budget for the dining room would allow. Thank you for your help though, it was a good suggestion and I do appreciate it.

If I were you, I would step back and think about your kitchen as a whole. I would not worry about what works with your cabinets right now, or what matches with this or that. Give yourself a break to either not think about it at all, or come up with a clear vision of your final product where you are not settling on anything just because it goes.

Sometimes I just want to be done and start talking myself into things.

Anele, yeah, I didn't realize it at the time, but they were on sale when I got them. I need two more and they've since gone back to their original price. I love the things that can't be changed, the style, the size and how solid they are. They're great for the price, I just don't like the color. I don't want to order more chairs site unseen again so if I can make these work by having them painted, it would be a blessing (and still on budget).

No, I don't have an inspiration picture, but I do have a pretty clear vision in my head and a board of sorts put together. I've described it all with pictures in my original thread (linked above). The hutch (we just bought) has been painted in the color I was hoping the chairs would be. I agree, sometimes it's good to step back and re-evaluate so your words are not wasted on me but we have other things at play that really sort of dictate the need for this to be finished. Even so, I'm not going to settle for something that doesn't feel right but I do like to sort of let things morph into something that we love.

I love the soft yellow of the chairs. I know you have to return them within an allotted time but if possible I would wait till your hutch is done and moved in. Then IF it doesn't look good, I would ask the guy who painted your hutch if he would match the chairs for you...but you would have to have the total number of chairs that you want, available to paint. Then I would think about the table.

Hope the owner of the store can give you a good deal on painting the chairs!
