Mother of Pearl tile?

I ran across this Mother of Pearl tile a few months ago. I like the subtle iridescence or it and the slightly color variations.

A couple of questions:

Do you think this type of tile would work as a backsplash that needs to be cleaned regularly (i.e. behind the range).

Has anyone seen it in bigger sizes...maybe the 2X6 subway style or even 1X4 rectangles?

I am doing warm white cabinets and thought this might provide a bit of texture and color without being too much.

The product description says it's glass with the color painted on the back, so it seems it should be easy to clean? Very pretty.

I did a search of "mother of pearl" tile and came up with quite a few hits. The Daltile website below has quite a few styles. I like the mini-subway tile design. I think the mother of pearl sounds like it would look nice in your kitchen, but I don't know anything about it's upkeep.

Hi Lisa, I am getting the same seamless tiles installed and had the same questions. Could you share what adhesive/mortar and sealant you used? Also as these are seamless, how do you prevent dirt from accumulating in the thin line of gap between each tile? Thanks much. I am shopping for short finger tile to use as an accent strip in my small bathroom..it will run around the walls at chair rail height and around the tub, back the niche then back out..the tiles are glass, marble and MOP on some kind of ceramic base. I was told by different sales people there was no need to seal...but others say the marble should be sealed...I am concerned that using it in the tub/shower..and using a squeegie on the wall where it will run over the MOP numerous times will loosen the shell from the base tile...also hard water spots might be a problem and I am concerned to use any acid based cleaner on it...should I look for a tile without marble or shells in it? I don't want to have to maintain the accent tile

What's a little humorous about the DalTile stuff is that it's natural sea shell, and the brochure even says, "Even when dry, it has a liquid sparkle. And when wet, itÂs simply at home", but then elsewhere it says it's not suitable for wet areas or areas frequently exposed to water! :-) It says it needs sealing, then can be cleaned with "a soft cloth and neutral cleaner." Like the glass selection, it is gorgeous and would be unique.

By any chance do you have a deep counter where your cooktop is, or a range that has a riser that will protect the backsplash a bit? Our rangetop is out from the wall a bit, because of having deeper counters to each side and pulling it out to match, and it really does a lot to keep most of the mess from landing on our slate backsplash...So the fact that it's not so easy to wipe down isn't as a big a deal.
