Comments (7)What color flooring would work? Thanks! Inverse how you're looking at the doors and trim. Instead of focusing on the main, all-over blonde color, focus on the smaller grain areas of darker browns. Try to find flooring that matches the darker browns. Plain, simple, solid(ish), not busy pattern. It will go with what you have now and a wide range of options in the future....See MoreShould we do colorful trim throughout house?
Comments (12)aohriner, lovely home! We are currently in the process of building a "period" home and have decided to use classical color schemes, instead of traditional ones (i.e., white or light trim), for the interior trim. In the past, depending on the style of the house (i.e., Regency, colonial, Victorian), painting the trim darker than the wall color would have been an acceptable thing to do. Based on the style of your house, I would think that you could get away with doing the darker trim with lighter wall color. But, I would advise that you be careful because, depending on the space and its size, it may become too overwhelming to the eye due to the room-framing tendencies that this method can have. Another thing that you may want to think about is the type of trim that you will be using. In my home, we will have quite a bit of substantial trim build-ups. So, in a sense, it is a natural progression to play them up. But, if you do not plan on doing bulky trims, it may be best to only highlight areas that are focal points, such as a window with a view or an entry or transition, with the darker trim color. I will also have some of this going on in my home in addition to monochromatic treatments where the trim and wall are all painted the same color. If you are interested in more information or ideas, definitely pick up one of Farrow and Balls books. I have two of them, and I think that the information that I gleaned from them has been better than that which I have found in books by domestic authors in regards to this subject. hth....See MorePlantation shutters throughout house?
Comments (4)I really dislike plantation shutters so I will say my piece. IMO they are heavy looking are difficult to clean ( much like old venitian blinds ) block views and light . IMO a much nicer idea in a bedroom is drapes for a softer look and in other parts of the home solar shades to control heat and UV rays but keep the view they aslo give day time privacy and I mix them with drapes or roman shades for night time privacy. As for window coverings from the outside I like to see all the same on the exterior...See MoreRelated Professionals
