Do I sand a Bowling Ball? 3 Questions

I'm going to be starting a bowling ball which I will cover with TG. I've read I should sand the ball, but I wondered if that will show poorly under TG since you can see right through it. Does anyone know?

Also, I have both GE Silicone II and Weldbond here. I'm thinking because I want it an outdoor piece, I should use the GE. Am I right? Do I need to spread it throughly on all the pieces of the TG to avoid grout bleed?

Daisy, I have not used TG on a BB yet, but my answer to you from my experience with other glues would, yes sand the BB. I'm not sure what results you'd get under the TG. You could paint the BB. Any color would work. Or you could oaint the TG before application. Definitely use GEII for outside. I have not had good luck with weelbond on a couple of pavers and BBs'. I would say yes, butter the TG with GEII, then apply to BB. Good luck Daisy and make sure to post some pix. I have been thinking of a TG BB, but have not yet attempted.

Daisy, when I did my TG BB, I sanded it lightly then painted it with acrylic paint. I glued my TG with Mac Glue but in your case if you don't have Mac glue I guess GE II would be the best because it is good for outdoors. Have fun doing it! Wouldn't it be fun to be able to work on this together though?

To patch some things, I use Bondo (located in the automobile section of Walmart, and in auto supply stores.) It is two part. A tube of hardener is supplied on top of the can. The hardner is addded to the gooey base material. The more hardener added, the quicker it sets up. The hardener turns the base pinkish, and the pinker it is the faster it sets up. Directions are on the can. I use paper plates and popsicle sticks and toss them when finished. It can be sanded easily. I sound like a commercial.

Thanks everyone- I think I have decided not to grout, because I kind of like it the way it is too. I can't wait until spring comes, so I can put it outside and see what the sun hitting it looks like. Is there a recommended spray I should coat it with for weather protection that won't dull the look? Or is it ok to leave it alone?

There's another pond below those 2 in the pictures. I love my ponds too. The birds come in the summer and bathe in the channel. I love to watch them and the sound, of the water and the falls, is very soothing. That window frame was very easy. Found another ball on the way home. I ducked into a ts I don't often make it to and they had one! I was a good girl too. I grabbed the bowling ball and perused the beautiful but too pricey glassware and left. Gotta get home to feed the little people. Kids expect regular meals. So just need one more ball... Jane I'll post pics as soon as it's complete. Don't give up on me a move a tad bit slower than you do. You were a speed demon on that wonderful castle.

I sand my bowling balls.........make sure the oil is off...scrub them good.....rough them up! Weldbond is a NO NO...........GEII windows and doors/and I have had good luck with Liquid Nails for outdoors.......this is what I do...... Good luck!

OK! Thanks! I was just concerned that the sanding would show through the TG and ruin it! I'm using the GE II
