I'm Back and almost ready to paint

I am exhausted!! I am such a homebody that I get homesick anytime I leave my roost. But I had a wonderful time painting with Peggy Harris (www.peggyharris.com) and for the life of me I can't remember the names of the other teachers. I painted the goldfish with Peggy, a calla lily in acrylic and one in oils, and I was suppose to paint with Delane Lange but got bumped. I was the last one to sign up and she didn't bring enough projects to paint so I volunteered to give up my seat (she is sending me a packet with the wood). I really wanted to take the class but several of the ladies seemed upset so I decided to give it up. I bought a lot of little things and several packets. We had an auction with the money going to the Decorative Arts Museum and it was great to see all the paintings donated for the auction. Johnnie Lilidahl donated one of her old world paintings of a little girl and it went for $3,300.00 which was nice but the painting should have been for more.

I didn't see anything new but I did purchase wood ornaments, wind chimes, tea boxes, metal keys, and a few brushes to add to my collection. There was a lot of rusty metal items on the sales floor and books galore. I didn't have the patience to go through them. It was fun just to see all the items that were painted. The drive for me was 8 hours but it went by fast. One of the ladies that went with us talked the whole way.

We had a younger (41) lady join us there and she is fairly new at painting - she was so excited and it just made you feel good to see that. Then, on the flip side, one of the ladies was in pain from a back injury and she felt everyone was so mean to her - which wasn't the truth, everyone was so nice and accommodating even when she snapped at us or made sarcastic remarks. That made me want to go home right away but I couldn't. However, I would have to think twice before going again with a group of ladies.

As soon as I get unpacked, I will start adding pictures to the post.

Missed not talking to yall and I know you would have loved going.

It sounds like you had a great time in spite of the "pain in the back!"

Can't wait to see what you paint, and thanks for posting a new site to check out.

Bebe, I've been anxiously waiting for you to get back from your trip! So glad that you had a good time (for the most part) Sorry you missed the Delane Lange class, but you are such a good painter, I'm sure you will not have any problems doing the project when she sends you the wood. ;o) I have one of her books, and a video on painting roses--both from back in the 80's. I may have the Peggy Harris goldfish project in one of my painting mags, I'll have to look for it again. I'll be eagerly waiting for any pics you might post. You are right, hard to have a whole group that are fun to be with--next time maybe you can just go with your best painting buddy and let the others go on their own! ;o)

I had a good chuckle reading this thread. :-) Winter I can definitely wait for...Christmas!!?? No...please, it's bad enough when they are playing Christmas carols in the stores at Halloween, let along gardeners on the GW forums wishing it were here in September! lol Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Now, it's a toss up between spring and fall. I really enjoy the change in season. We tried moving to the South once and stayed for 9 months. We moved back home. We really missed the seasons, more than we thought we would. Like dtd, I also don't want a greenhouse,or to be gardening all year. I enjoy the break when nothing has to be tended to outside and I can think about something else besides being totally immersed in gardening. [g] This year, I am particularly ready to be finished with the yard. It has been so dry and the yard just doesn't look as good as it usually would at this time of year. We still have a lot to do before we are finished for the year though. I will be glad to cover up some of the mess out there and start fresh next year. Don't you think it has a bit of a melancholy feel though, this time of year? There's just something about the different light in the fall. The way it is dark earlier maybe? So different than the excitement of spring returning. pm2

Glad I came back up here to look for replies! Yay! I got the good dirt! :D I had no idea what I was doing. The guy at the co-op recommended this. I knew we were anti-Hyponex and pro co-op mix, but that's all I knew. :) Uh oh...no styrofoam? Bummer. I just did a few, and so easy to poke holes in the bottom. I tried poking holes in the yogurt cup first and split it. Oops. I think a plastic container sounds like a good idea to house everything, drilling holes in the top. Do I also have to make drainage holes in the bottom? I do have a paint pen. It's one of those Deco-Color from Michael's craft store.

I really don't want to be a whiner! I went out to mine 3 times today just to see WHAT was getting done. To GC's credit, he's busting his hump finishing all HIS stuff. The marble guy was there all day long and all he got done was the tub surround. Not sure if he OD'd on turkey, or what, but he's moving a little slow. Okay, so kel, on the bright side, I think I mentioned this before--we must believe that WHEN all the subs do as they should, that things will happen very quickly. Honestly, if you think about it, most subs like plumbers, electricians, really only need a few days to do their thing. SO, if all the stars align and the planets are in their houses...OR WHATEVER!!!!!!!! HAHA! I told DH I think the thing that really upsets me is I don't like being lied to. I don't appreciate subs making up excuses for why they didn't do their job when they were supposed to do it. If you ain't coming, just say, "I ain't coming". Don't make up some lame excuse why! UGH. I also have slowly, but surely, figured out that if a sub should be at your house and he's not, he sure enough isn't going to answer the phone! My build really has been okay up until now. I have found the whole process pretty gratifying, actually. But now that we're down to the wire, we just don't have the luxury of take our sweet time to do things and I'm exhausted. Living in chaos is such a drain and I'm ready for things to calm down and get back to boring ol' family life! I will say a prayer for all of us and hopefully sleep tonight, knowing that tomorrow is another day...full of promises.

thank you for your response pam. i'll try to clarify for you. first, i am working with a lender. the lender wants to sell me a loan, which is why i am seeking other non-vested opinions. fmha is farmer's home and the loan is a subsidised loan if i need it to be.. so when i took out the loan in 1989 i got a 9% loan but only had to pay 2% of that each month, the rest was subsidised by them--which was the only way at the time i could get into homeownership. luckily i only needed the subsidy help for a few years before i was able to pay the full monthly note at 9%. recapture is basically paying back what the program 'lent' you while you were being subsidised. the house is fully functional, but what needs to happen is the kitchen, mudroom and septic need to be brought up to the remodeled standards of the rest of the house. basically we have the plan for the new kitchen addition fleshed out, but the work stopped when my husband became ill and he could no longer do the work. now we'll have to pay someone to do it, which will cost a lot more than doing it ourselves.

Glad you are safely home. I'll be looking forward to seeing your projects. It is to bad that you didn't get to paint with Delane Lange. I have several of her books and like her paintings.

Sounds like you'll have a lot of things to paint on and it will be great to see what you come up with. So glad that most of your time was enjoyable. I'll bet it was fun to see and hear the excitement from a newbie at a place like that. I'm sure I would be overwhelmed at a conference like that and would never shut up.

It's to bad that some people just have a hard time being pleasant. At our business we tell them they have to treat us with respect or we will not be helping them. It's amazing how they want to be your best friend right away. LOL

I've never heard of Johnnie Lilidahl, so I'll try to check this person out. You were apparently impressed with the painting and I always love what you paint, so hopefully I'll find something on him/her.

wow wow wow!!! sounds like you had a great adventure!! it's so nice to hear you describe your little escapade ... i could see it in my head as i read:)) LOL!!! takes all kinds of ppl to make this world :)) but glad you had a real good time even if it's a little tiring. and you bought so many goodies! this is a nice post :) thanks for sharing your adventure with us :))
