24 new bottles of paint---YAY!!

I took advantage of AC Moore's 3/$1 sale on Anita's acrylic craft paint. Does anyone use Anita's? I never tried it, but I got some lovely colors.

Some things make me happy just because I own them. A certain book, whether I read it or not . . . a lipstick in a great shade that is definitely not for every day . . . and painting or rug hooking supplies, even though this time of year I'm working outside in the garden.

Do you love to buy new paint, too?

Hi Susan and congrats on your paint buy. I don't think I've ever heard of Anita's, but we don't have ACM here. I do love new paint, but I usually end up with multiples of the same colors if I don't go with a list. I must tend to like the same ones. I get my happies from good finds at the TS that I want to paint even though I have so many now I shouldn't buy any more....EVER! ha
What makes me sad is when I have a specific color that I think would be the perfect addition to my paint collection, but everywhere I go it's sold out! So then I know for sure that all the other painters out there must think it's perfect too! ha It took me forever to find a bottle of Paynes Grey and I love it! ~Anj

Susan, that was a good sale on the paints. I've not heard of that brand either. I recently saw a flyer for Joanne's and they had Americana on sale really cheap, but I didn't have time to get by there.

Speaking of paints--what's the new Craft brand that Michael's and Walmart are carrying? Anyone know who makes them or what the quality is? They are always priced at 50 cents.

I used to use Delta Ceramacoat, but started buying Folk Art brand when I was trying to learn One Stroke.

You made me smile with your list of things that make you happy! ;o) Pretty paint colors, rose dishes or cups, lace curtains or doilies, and craft/painting books would top my list.

I am very jealous. Seriously. LOL You must be a really good person for the guy to think of you when he gets bottles like that. Use a dechlorinating product, I suggest "Prime" by seachem. You can double dose it or use up to 5 times the normal dose. There are other brand named products that do the same thing, but prime is the most economical because it treats more water will a smaller dose, so it saves some cash. Chlorinated water will not allow your nitrogen cycle to begin or will kill any progress it has made. That is the reason chlorine is used to "purify" water or kill bacteria. The fish will not appreciate superchlorinated water either. The problem with spring water is pH. It will come out of the bottle very acidic and usually spike up in the high 7's. Reason, traped CO2. Once the CO2 disipates then the pH will rise. So that water should set out also. Fish will stress from constant change in pH. The bacteria do not like very acidic water either so a possibilty for a system crash there. See if any Local Fish Stores (LFS) sell Reverse Osmosis water (R.O.). It is usually inexpensive, somewhat, just add some "trace" elements back to the water, also available at the LFS. Fish need these nutrients to keep healthy so don't eliminate them. It may be in your best interest to invest in a R.O. system for your own drinking water. They are pricey but probably better then buying tons of spring water.

Out of curiosity, is it commonplace to offer workers a bottle of water? I can absolutely see marti8a's point regarding not wanting someone walking off with a glass. And I also could see concerns about the glass being broken depending on the type of work being done. I very rarely have any workers in my home as I do almost all work myself. But when I have had workers, I rarely offer water. In general, it seems as though most workers bring their own water or beverage. The few that I have offered bottled water to have not accepted. With guests, I always offer a glass of water and either fill it myself from the filtered water or let them know there is filtered warm or cold water and ice if they wish to fill it themselves. Regular guests know and retrieve their own glasses and water frequently. I suppose i could offer guests a Nalgene bottle (I have many) instead of a glass, but it seems a little odd to me unless we were going for a hike (when I have offered guests Nalgene bottles). For overnight guests, I like the idea of providing a pretty glass pitcher or even better, one of those glass bottles Angie_DIY posted, by the bedside with a glass.

A flask would certainly be hilarious! I have a kid who uses Thermos brand bottles with the flip-up straw thingy (I pulled out the straw because I'm not washing that thing!) and it doesn't leak. It's a smaller model for kids--so check out the better brand kid bottles. Camelbak makes kid sized bottles too and they tend to be good. I've also had good luck with metal bottles with plastic screw tops. I don't know if they come in small versions though, so again, I'd check the kid sized items.
