WIP, my fifth Outer Space mosaic

Ready to grout; will use black grout. 26 inches across. This was a large shallow wooden bowl that will now hang on the wall. Stained glass, iron pyrite flower, vintage jewelry, pearls, semi-precious stones, amethyst, crystals, glass cabs, glass globs, glass beads, pottery shards.

FAR OUTÃ¢ÂÂ¦ literallyÃ¢ÂÂ¦ in Space! This is gorgeous! How many hours did it take you to create this showpiece? And, I loved your Ã¢ÂÂwarningÃ¢ÂÂ about grouting, too. I feel the same way as you do when I grout. I donÃ¢ÂÂt talk, answer phones or the doorbell, or even pause to admire (or critique) my handiwork. It is the step that I dread most (grouting drives me crazy), but it is the step that IÃ¢ÂÂm so anxious to do. Does that make sense? Will be looking for your mosaic guitars' posting! Hey, CALAM - 'bout time you show up over here. Got your email, and your pictures WOWed me. You're REALLY working. Yep - that wall at the Hacienda - I LOVE it. Of course, I'm not able to re-create it on a big scale, but... KLINGER - I DO have trouble sleeping - mind always thinking of this stuff. Here's the second section. Well blow me away. I had no idea you had visited CALAM!!!!! She told me how many of her friends are from the GW, but I don't remember her mentioning your visit. CALAMITY JANE: Did you give her that tumbler I sent you!!!!!?????? LOL. CALAM has a habit of giving away things - for example her very first project made in that class in PV - a hand w/all the knuckles - from the diamond lath. I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!

WOW - There's that word again, but I can't think of another one for a first mosaic project. You should have seen my first piece! AWFUL. Your mirror frame is absolutely beautiful. Anxious to see it grouted. Just a note about adding smaller things as you grout. IF you want them sitting IN the grout, it w/be a good idea to make an indention in your damp grout to put them in w/glue later. If not, your grout, unless you add glue to it, might not hold them as w/your thinset.

Really beautiful!!!! May I ask......what type of adhesive do you use for a project like this? I purchased a shallow wooden bowl at the resale shop recently and didn't have a clue as what to do with it! I'm clueless as to how you manage to get grout cleaned up from jewelry parts and other items with tiny crevices. I have seen others do pieces with jewelry and that has always amazed me as to HOW do you clean that up!

Thank you all for your comments. I use MAC glue for just about everything (except outdoors; then I use mortar). Cleaning up grout on something like this is quite the challenge. I grout as usual but then I clean like mad, and some things get left behind, buried forever. I use sponges, then terrycloth rags, then cosmetic brushes, and sometimes toothpicks, to try and get everything clean. I think on this one, I will grout in sections; it is too stressful to cover the entire piece and then try to clean it all off at once.
