musicteacher, I had to bribe the kiddos out of the room to take these photos. ;) We've upgraded our outdoor space and partially converted the garage into an art studio where they can play and paint to their heart's desire. The family room built ins also store their toys and games and the family watches movies here, but it's so refreshing to walk into this room and not trip over plastic toys anymore.

debrak2008, we actually didn't add any windows. The room only got new shiplap, carpet, paint and accessories. The carpet is what made the biggest difference -- the old green color just sucked up all the light in the space.

It looks fantastic! Was the ceiling already done or did you put shiplap on it too? It's hard to tell in your before pictures because of the lighting, but the carpet does look dreary. What is your new carpet?

marti8a, the shiplap was already on the ceiling so we just brought it down the big wall. We were going to do a gallery wall with a lot of white frames but in the end decided on shiplap to make the room feel more cozy. We used 6 in pine tongue and groove planks from Home Depot and my husband and our carpenter did it in a day. The carpet is Shaw "Smooth Operator". It's a sand-colored berber-ish carpet, but fairly plush.

autismmom, my understanding of Casement windows is that open from a hinge to the side, and only the side windows in this room go up and down. The windows were added when the addition was built, before we owned the house.

but where is pip? I thought for sure there'd be a glimpse of the pooch somewhere, a nose, an ear, a leg....nada!

Love it like I love your kitchen! Very nice. I am still in the land of lego's and light sabers and I don't see an end in site yet. Enjoying this phase all the while anyhow.

I had to go back and look at the before photos. The upper triangle windows don't show in those photos. Since your room looks brighter I thought the increased lighting was one of the reasons.

Oh yay, I just noticed I have the same rectangular throw pillow as you do, I use mine on my bed, I got it from home goods. You have such a wonderful style of decorating, that it gives me hope that I would choose the same pillow as you lol. Where did you get the other pillows?

boopadaboo, i was a little concerned too about all the white and light colors with two toddlers, but we re-painted the white coffee table and put a layer of poly over top, so it easily wipes down. The white curtains are el cheapos from IKEA so if they mess them up, it's not a big deal. Hopefully the carpet will stand up to them -- my youngest actually drew on our old icky green carpet with a black sharpie a few months ago. It (mostly) came out, but the carpet looked faded in the spot from where I stain treated it. All Sharpies have been banned from our house after that experience!

hi autismmom, I love that little rectangular pillow -- I found mine at TJMaxx recently. The rest of the pillows are from a variety of places -- I think the light turquoise one with buttons is from HomeGoods, the brown geometric one I found at the fabric district in downtown LA, etc.

thanks roobear, the golden peacock is one of my favorite pieces in our house. It's moved around a lot in our house, but I finally feel like this space does it justice.
