Sixty Dollars? What kind of pillow covers are they? Toss pillows for the living room? Bed pillow covers? That sounds like a lot to me.

Throw pillows for the sofa, and I'd certainly rather not pay sixty dollars a piece, but would pay that much for something really special. :) I have friends who routinely pay three hundred dollars a pillow. I'm not that loaded. haha

OK, I just looked at them, birdlover. I sure hope you find a less expensive source. They're beautiful, but they don't even have the inserts!

Do you or anyone you know sew? Pillows can be made in an hour or so for about $10 in decorator fabrics and piping, or $2.00 or so with remnants for kids'rooms! Gosh, I'd make 'em for you if you were desperate!

Good grief. $300 you say? I'm going to pick myself up off the floor and make custom pillows for people! Go buy yourself the fabric you want, mail it to me, and I'll send them back to you the next day. Sheesh!

Yes, I love embroidered pillows, too. My grandmother embroidered, tatted and did "white work" that I have been lucky enough to inherit, so I've made pillows from her work, used other pieces as table toppers, etc.

I think you have the right idea to make your own coordinating pillows. Good luck.

Etsy usually has interesting pillows. Sometimes, they have just the covers.

If you have an IKEA nearby, try there. They have a large selection of pillow covers, sold separately from inserts.

You can also make great decorative pillows with cloth napkins. Standard size of the cloth napkins is about 18x18. Use two per pillow, sew them together right sides out, right along the hem line of the napkins, leaving one side open. Put in the pillow inserts, and stitch the final side together. Stitching in the hem lines gives you ready-made guidlines for sewing, and the finished edges allow you to sew them together right side, in a jiffy.

If you like you can glue or stitch on designs and embellishments before you sew the two napkins together.

Look for seasonal ones for holiday pillows, damask and linen, floral prints and plaids.

I think the Pb covers are a good buy- they are well made, embroidered and lovely. I see similar pillows go for a lot more other places.
I have them all over the place.
And those PB pillows go fast.

A few years ago I bought some custom chairs for our living room and looked at getting some custom pillows made to go with them. The quote for 2 pillows was around $900. I'm still laughing (but in a cynical way).

Try Homegoods, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx. I often find Pottery Barn stuff on ebay (new) for less than the store. Etsy is another good option.

If you have Hobby Lobby, Gardenridge, or Tuesday Morning in your area, you might want to check them out, also. ;o)

bird lover, look in Etsy. I have a shop there myself, which I won't mention because it's against the rules, but you can find pillow covers made by hundreds of Etsy artists for much less what you're talking about. I make pillow covers in my shop, and can tell you that there's no reason to pay so much when you can find wonderful quality hand-made pillows for a fraction of the cost of retail.

Just thought i'd give you an idea of what could be done for $75. The two flower fabric area ready made from pottery barn, $25 each. The remaining 5 fabrics are purchased from Joann Fabrics $25. There is enough to make 5 pillows with the same fabric on each side ore 10 pillows with the pattern on the front and a cheaper fabric choice on the back. What I do is use the more expensive fabric on the front and use a drop cloth for fabric on the back. Since I change my pillows about every 3 months this is the most cost effective way.
Even if you cant sew you can make pillows. There is an iron on tape on the market that can be used to put all the seam together.
You coud even buy napkins and tie the corners around the pillow form, buy a scarf or table runner and wrap it like a package and tie with a large ribbon in the middle, theres lots of ways to get what you want for little money, you just have to get creative.
