My DH said to me, "I think I'm going to have to do some modifications to the frame you made me for Christmas."

I said, "Like what?"

He said, "I'm going to have to remove the picture of my car."

I said, "Why?" thinking that maybe he knocked it over and broke it or something.

He said, "BECAUSE NOBODY IS EVEN LOOKING AT MY CAR, EVERYBODY JUST COMMENTS ON THE FRAME!!!!"

Boy, did I laugh. I had a hard time this year making gifts for my DH, DD and DS. My first ideas that I wanted to make them did not work out so I needed to come up with something else. My DH has a 1963 Ford Fairlane and when I asked him for an idea of something I could mosaic for him, he said he wanted a picture of his car that he could hang at work. I bought the frame but I had a heck of a time coming up with an idea. This is what I finally came up with.

The frame is 11 X 17 and it was silver so I covered it with clear textured glass so the silver would still show.

Ha!!! I know what he means. Who would want to look at that car...I mean they made quite a few of those, but that frame!! It's an original object d'art!!

Too late for tonight I'm sure but here are two Porcupines. Maureen Porcupine Meatballs Â 1 tablespoon vegetable oil Â 1/2 cup finely chopped red pepper Â 3 green onions (finely chopped) Â 2 garlic cloves (crushed) Â 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger Â 1 pound hamburger Â 1/2 cup long-grain rice Â 1 tablespoon soy sauce Â 1/8 teaspoon cayenne Â 1 large egg Â 1 can (14 ounce) chicken broth Â 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil Â four 1/4-inch-thick slices fresh ginger Â 1 1/2 cups water Â julienne strips green onion and red pepper for garnish In a large deep skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Add red pepper and cook until tender, stirring occasionally. Add green onions, garlic, and minced ginger; cook while stirring for 1 minute longer. Transfer vegetable mixture to a medium size bowl and stir in hamburger, uncooked rice, soy sauce, cayenne, and egg until well blended. Line a 15 1/2x10 1/2 inch pan with waxed paper. Shape the meat mixture to form 1 1/2 inch meatballs and place in pan. Using the same skillet, heat the chicken broth, sesame oil, ginger slices, and 1 1/2 cups water to boiling over high heat. Arrange the meatballs in the simmering broth mixture and heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes. Serve meatballs with broth in shallow bowls and garnish with green onion and red pepper strips. This meatball recipe serves four. Porcupine Meatballs 1 1/2 lb Lean ground beef 1/2 c Raw rice 1/2 c Onion; finely chopped 1/2 c Green pepper; finely chopped 1 Egg 1 ts Salt 1/4 ts Pepper 1 Tomato soup 1 cn Diced tomatoes and liquid In mixing bowl combine ground beef, rice, onion, green pepper, egg, salt an d pepper. Mix well to blend. Shape meat mixture into 24 meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Place meatballs in slow cooking pot. Pour soup over meatballs. LOL, ellendi & Dlm. I have no clue what kind he was. I didn't see him until dh brought it into the kitchen already skinned. Boone's a very fast dog with muscles of steel. Ducks can take more than a few seconds to get in flight. I ate the veggies but not the duck. I don't like dark meat of any kind except the ocassional Quail, which is about once every ten years. HIW, I do feed a covey of Quail every winter which we don't eat. :) I have to say though, that Biscuit Monkey Bread is the BEST I've ever eaten. No longer will I use those Rhode's Frozen Yeast Rolls.

This was some of the best lobster I have ever had. Sweet and tender. I steamed them first, and then crack the claws and split the tails, brush with butter and place on the grill to finish them off. Preparing them this way, I can get the mess from cutting them open cleaned up quickly and by finishing them off on the grill they are nice and hot when they are served.

What a great frame! You came up with the perfect thing! Clever to use the clear glass and let the silver show. Definitely a checkered flag car, too! It's nice to have DH like your work, too! :)

Oh, that frame is perfect for retro 50's but yeah, the car needs a little glitz to match the frame.

What a great compliment from him eh?! I had a 67 ford fairlane gt sport model, console, everything! It was my FAV car!!! Got stolen and dumped into a lake! Joyriding kids! But mosaicing the car IS an option!lol!

That frame is way to cool! I love all the diamonds and squares. The clear glass to show the silver was a freakin brilliant idea...way to be creative!

Thanks all...I really struggled to come up with a pattern. Seemed like everything I did and liked looked too girly to be on his frame. I cut up a lot of glass in many different colors and shapes and didn't like how it looked until I pulled out the black & white. Then I decided to grout it gray but all I had was white and black grout. So I kept mixing white and black, then a little more white..oops now a little more black...by the time I got the color how I wanted it I had enough grout mixed up to probably grout 20 frames. LOL

A couple of days later...we bought gray grout!!! That's what Colleen used on Bama's frame. It's so much easier when you don't have to mix up the grout to get the color you want!

Wench...I'll have to remember to tell my DH that at dinner tomorrow night! He'll get such a kick out of it.

OHMYGOODNESS. CRAFTY - that is absolutely a fabulous design for the frame. Yeah, your DH is right - I hardly noticed the car. Such a great design idea, and I can't believe how perfect your diamonds and squares are. You really learned the Morton system well.
