Still working on just this one room... window treatment has been a challenge to say the least! I tried gold, moss green and now terra cotta /red which looks the best IMHO. I also painted a moss green behind the built-ins - but it made the fireplace look weird, and I painted that a terra cotta as well. What do you all think?

I took the red/gold lamp to a lighting shop and they fitted a shade to it, I think it looks better. I also purchased (saved receipts!!) a different console table lamp... not sure about this one yet.. but I tried to take the advise given and found one which has a little more bulk to the base (rather than a tall thin one). I am still playing around accessorizing - still need to tweak it!

Like the new lampshade - a perfect example of why we should always take our lamps along when we pick out shades! Great choice.

Not crazy about the lamp on the console table. I don't think it has enough heft to it, and the fluting on the body is too similar to the lines on the candlesticks to use them together.

I vote no on the wall color behind the shelves. I think it brings too much of the pink-red tones there with the wood and the brick. I would do a deeper version of the wall color instead, and let the items on the shelves be the focal point, not the paint color.

The red drapes are very pretty, but feel very dark and heavy. I would think about going with a soft creamy color that is a nice transition between the inside, and the outside view. What about something like this from Silk Trading Co?

I like the chest in the entry - what will you be putting on either side of it? I could see a pair of armless spider-back chairs, or a couple of woven parsons chairs made from banana leaf or water hyacinth. Or, move the chest to one side, rather than center it in the space, and add a larger upholstered chair, sitting just a bit on an angle.

I like the drapes in the room and like them straight. I don't know about the color behind the built-ins. I would have gone a little darker and more to the brownish side. Like the new lamp shade.

Think the lamp on the sofa table could be a little bigger or perhaps put some books under it.

Love the chest in the entry but would put something else on the sides.

Thank you so much Christin. If I had the money, I would be going to that junk store every weekday. Not so many people there during the week day, so more to myself. The lady who owns it was so nice. She took the time to show me how easy it was to take that arbor apart and put back together. Then she and I (and her three-year old daughter) put everything into the truck. I also got that arch behind the statue in the garden. The little three year old was so precious and beautiful. Such a sweet child too, and so cute. She followed me everywhere and "helped" me carry things out to the truck, just chattering away. I had to go home to get the truck after making my purchases, and when I came back two hours later, she ran to greet me, her head of blonde curls bouncing with each step and blowing in the breeze. She hugged me and began following again, conversing about anything and everything. I enjoyed her very much. I sure hope the Empress settee is still there on my next visit. Our house was built in 1930. It is a very small Bungalow - too small in fact, and there is now storage - none. The original owner was the village doctor - Doc Davis. There were originally 160 adjoining acres. He didn't farm it, but leased it out to ranchers for grazing and growing wheat, so I've been told. We had the option of also buying the remaining 70 acres. Wish I could have talked "The Heathen " into that. But, we got 3 acres and that is nice enough...for now. Several of the old-timers here have told me so many interesting stories about having their broken arm set here, getting "stitched up", or some such. One man in town lived on the place as a child. His father was the caretaker/maintenance man - he lit the coal furnace for the Misses, and that sort of thing. There was a smaller cottage on the north side of the property where they lived. Just the foundation remains. I am gleaning the old red Iron stones that are loose from the remaining foundation. I had thought of planting spring bulbs inside it. Still would like to do that. It is in heavy shade in summertime, but has enough sun in the spring for flowering bulbs. Would be so pretty. Right now, it is a snake pit - Copperheads. Me no likey that! The house itself is very unique in the sense that it is solid brick, not veneer applied to wood frame. The outside walls are also the inside walls, only coated in plaster. No lath-work underneath, just plaster. And, we have a full basement - not common in Oklahoma on account of the terrible problem with the ground shifting - not safe at all. But this house has stood the years and made it through many tornadoes too. I have visions of it collapsing one day and falling into the basement, especially since we have had some pretty hefty Earthquakes that shook the house and rattled the windows for 15 minutes and longer. Yikes! There was no garden at all when we bought the place. Only a few native trees, and the two woodland areas on the hill above, and a smattering of old daylilies against the northside of the house. Everything else, including trees, I planted. Sometimes when out int the garden working, I think on it, and am amazed at how much I have done to this place. The vines on the house are English Ivy and Virginia Creeper. I planted it the first year in 1996. I love the colorful leaves and blue berries in the fall of the Virginia Creeper, and the English Ivy adds the charm and greenery I love to the cottage. It is not only charming, but it also insulates the house in winter and summer. Birds love to nest in the ivy and creeper, especially the Lesser Flycatcher. Those tiny birds eat thousands of mosquitoes every day and flies as well. The vines and birds lure snakes, but they don't bother us. Our cats and dogs see to that. I did a lot of research to come up with the right type of garden that would look best with the house, and decided upon the Cottage Garden as best choice. I will be keeping a close watch on the junk store - they are struggling to keep it going. So sorry to hear that. Just another family on the brink of failure and ruin in the country. (Grrrrr...) But, if they do end up going out of business, I want to make their closing sale for certain. In the meantime, I am saving my pennies in jars so I can go back to get that settee and the Birdcage gazebo - at least. You ought to see all the lovelies INSIDE their store! ~Annie

No wonder you are confused. My head was spinning after reading all of the opinions! I was following the original post, but this is my first look at your follow-up. I agree with the others about finding another shade for first lamp if you decide to use it. The present shade is too short and it is the wrong style. My suggestion would be to take the lamp into a lighting store that sells shades. There you will have some expert advice as well as the option to "try on" various shades, much in the same way that you would try on clothes to determine the most flattering fit and combination. Think of the gas you will save! These are some guidelines for shades that I have found useful: 1. Match the base Â think size, shape, style, color. Your goal is to match the mood of the base. 2. Compliment the base Â the shade should make the base look better without competing with for attention (like that patterned shade on the metal lamp) 3. Hide the switch Â the shade should just barely cover the switch (usually the height of harp + Â½ inch). Try different sized harps, or add a shade riser to fine-tune. 4. Sizing Rules of Thumb: (1) Shade height should be about Â¾ the height of the base (2) Bottom of shade should be wider than widest part of the base. (3) Shade width should be approximately equal the height from bottom lamp base to the top of the lamp stem, (just below the socket cap) I like both lamps. I think either one will be beautiful, but I would not use both of them in that room. Rather than another ginger jar, it would be nice to use a different architectural form on the console. I like the console very much. I do not like the metal/glass (marble?) lamp with the patterned shade. I would look for gorgeous buffet lamps. I am thinking wooden with an antique gold finish (very simple, but elegant). These are high end lamps, but use as examples. If you want the console to appear more sophisticated, remove the dried flower wreath that is resting on the books below, and remove the wicker basket with the greens from the top of the console. Replace it with a grouping of three (the magic number) similar objects (candles, boxes, ceramics, etc.) of different height and proportion. Good luck and keep up the good work. I am amazed by your shopping energy and resourcefulness.

Disappointedly, I passed on the bench/sliding ottomans in the above post due to the cost of over $4200 in the lowest grade leather. However, because I’d had other ideas, I went back to one of those very quickly. The EA Ferri ottomans. But allow me to back up, please. When our church went through a major restoration in 2014, the design team updated some details around the doors, and I was totally inspired by the color palette. I still am. Please click on this photo to see all of the different colors: As I built a portfolio to redesign my family room, l found two continuous “themes." I wanted this color palette plus black, and I wanted an off-white sofa. Unfortunately, I gave into the fear that it would make my family feel they couldn’t relax in the room, and, after two years of debating, I finally chose a tweed that worked. I’ve regretted it every day. But gradually I am getting closer to the “feel” of the room I wanted. Before I could finish the room, I sold my house and moved into a temporary apartment. “Temporary” may well stretch into several years, and I need to feel good in this space. One thing that has worked in my favor is the off-white porcelain tile floor in the large open plan. And I’m so pleased that I waited until I found an area rug that warms up the room with texture but stayed with my desired color palette. Here’s what has surprised me most recently: On the EA floor sample sale were two Ferri ottomans which I asked my designer to bring to my home so we could get an idea of what direction to take. We both really liked the addition of linen-like texture, as opposed to another leather [which I’d planned for practical reasons.] We both liked the way the off-white fabric lightened the room. Knowing that I can choose to have them reupholstered very easily since it only involves the cushions, I chose to purchase them. And I’m another step closer to my original intention. I brought out more of my white and off-white accessories, and put away what most people consider to be “color.” This feels right to me, so now I can better convey that to all of you. I know that most advised me in an earlier design dilemma to add color. Please don’t worry. I can add more colorful accents at any time, and I will do that seasonally. Next I'll be searching for a 42”w x 18”d x 18”h coffee table with a glass top and metal base in oil rubbed bronze. This size seems best for the room, and I can choose to configure it with the two ottomans to form a large rectangle (42”w x 36”d x 18”h) when the ottomans are not in use. They also look nice along the wall across from the sofa, but for now I will use them as my “coffee table.” That has allowed me to remove the current coffee table and re-visualize the room. While looking for the coffee table, I need to decide on the drapery panels. The only reason I want them is to break up the mismatch of colors--the wood-colored blinds and the taupe walls--neither of which I can change due to the fact that I’m renting in a brand new complex. I’d like them to pick up the main color of the area rug. I’ve been watching for a PB sale. PB offers ivory in the 108” length that I need. (So does RH, but even on sale, they are too costly, I think.) It is essential to me that they hang very straight. No flare. Just barely touching the floor...and yes, start above the actual window height by about 9-10”...ceilings are 10' so I can make 108” work. I think I need to have a professional hang them for me. It is hard to spend a lot of money on window treatments for a temporary space, but I want this place to look and feel great while I’m here. Most if not all of the pieces I’ve chosen will work in my next home. But drapery panels...well, it’s harder to justify the cost. Watching for just the right sale. Any tips will be welcome! I love the door! Right now it looks pretty good white. Can you show us a pic farther back? (Like the first pic you posted?) I can't tell you the color name I used in my mockup because I did it in photoshop. I suggest dusty turquoise or sage, which will compliment red/orange. Don't go too saturated, it would be too bold next to those bricks. Maybe Drizzle, Vintage Vessel or Composed (below)? You're in a rush, but don't rush too much. You will still want to paint big samples. You may love a color in the store or online and find that you hate it in the actual surroundings.

First the drapes, now that I spent the time hanging them.. I don't like them at all! They are already down. I am going to hang a cream color sheet to get a visual!

The paint in the photo's are not really true - I said "terra cotta" but it really is more brick like - it very much is the same as the the brick on the fireplace. Maybe it's the camera flash.... In my mind - I did wonder if it should be deeper.. but my accessories seem to be getting a little lost with this color. However, in real life - painting the built-in's seemed to add so much more then then darker gold shade - which it previously was.

I was afraid I already knew that the lamp on the sofa table was too small, somehow I was "hoping" you would have all disagreed!! Another return!

I have no idea what to do yet with the entry - that will be my next project! What about the picture over the chest - yes - no??

I'd like to see some live greenery in the room to bring the outside in and to counterbalance all the reddish tones. I also think light drapes would look better. I think maybe the silk type fabric is a little too formal for a room off the kitchen. I'd like to see a yummy textured off white for drapery.

I like the paint behind the shelves. It livens the space and picks up on the terracota in the chairs. BM Warm Sienna 1203 is a cozy warm cayenne color. What color did you use? I like how the room looks with it!

Your space is looking very nice. I also like the warm color behind the bookcases. Not a fan of the red curtains at all. I would like to see something light and airy instead.

I think your room looks really nice. I honestly like the red curtains. rich looking! but don't care for them beside the terra wall color. ok i just reread and see that you said it's more of a brick color...

I think les hit it on the head with letting the shelves be the focal point.

i like the plant you have beside the entry table. I think the basket looks out of place. You could maybe do a small chair on the other side?

Well, you already know about the lamp :) so I won't go there.

I don't think you need to change the color of the bookcase. What I think might be throwing people off is that there is too much of it showing. The rule I've had to make for myself is instead of a lot of small items, I need fewer but larger ones.

In the bookcases, it looks like you could use taller books and bigger pieces. Think framed pictures (maybe in keeping with the landscape theme of your mantle piece, with solitary trees and perhaps metal framing to break up all the wood), mirrors and ceramic planters or bowls. For the time being, even placing some of your smaller things on horizonaly stacked books. Then I think the backround color will just add a nicer dimension.

It was very hard for me to do this for myself, especially when it seems like one bigger thing (wall hangings, sculptures and just about everything)costs more than three or four smaller things combined. You don't have to do everything at once, either. I'm sure not because not only do I have to start thinking bigger, I've got to do it with those d*mn two-story ceilings of mine.

The sofa table could just have one nice sized lamp and a wide planter with live greenery.

Okay - I have my assignments cut out for me - thank you! I don't want to rule out a "terra cotta" color quite yet - but the red ones didn't work and are returned. I DID find a terra cotta color, a cream, a sage and gold... I bought them to try (bed, bath and beyond are going to love my returns!) I will post pictures for your opinions tomorrow!

I have been "window shopping" online, but I made too many $$$$$ costly errors and return fees on wrong items, so I want to try and get see in person. I should have mentioned that I have been fabric shopping for the last 2 weeks - but I really don't want to spend nearly $1000 or more on drapes... as I may want to change things in a few years - or I can add and modify the premade myself to make look more custom.

Parma42, good point! I think I am "hunting" too hard. too quick - just to get it done! I really need to take my time on the accessories and get it right!

I did think about an accent chair beside the hall chest (that little basket is OLD and I am just using it to "fill" the space). Sounds like everyone agrees with that - so that will be another fun project. Moving in, and just decorating this one room has made me realize how much a designer/decorator works to complete a builders model home! From paint, floors, furniture and window treatments.... IT's A LOT OF WORK!

I would paint the wall behind the shelves a cream or the white of your trim. The curtains were pretty but too dark, I agree. Have you thought of a lighter material, perhaps a loosely-woven linen colour for your curtains, with a twill tape trim along the leading edge in the terra cotta colour?

Bless your DH's heart....mine would have shipped me off to the "crazy house" by now with all the changing you have made. My DH says my middle name is "return"...but I think you might have me beat.

I think your home is stunning and you have a fine sense of style. I would love to have any of your furniture. The only thing that "jumps" at me though, is the coral paint behind the bookcases. I would prefer not to notice that so much because everything else look so awesome.

A vote against the coral color on the bookcase wall --- I like the gold there -- OR perhaps even a chocolate color like BM "Bittersweet Chocolate" (#2114-10)

Well -- I do like the lamp on the console table BUT before you do decide to switch it out -- just TRY it on the chest in the entry instead ...... I would like the see two matching small benches on each side of the chest with a nice upsholstered top cushion ......

I'd love to see a tall mirror above the chest in the entry in order to maximize the height in that alcove.

I agree with kswl: I'd like to see same color as trim on the bookcase walls--the terra cotta makes the bookcases recede, and aids in the room closing in on itself. Plus, with the items on the shelf AND the terra cotta color AND the paneling AND the fireplace--it's starting to look really busy over there. :) I also agree about the drapes being a lighter color. The view out the windows is spectacular-- full of Nature--and I think the room should be opened up to welcome it in. :)

Still LOVE those chairs. :)

Well, this room's formation is has been birthed from GW and all of your help - from the very beginning! I love having you all here - so much better then hiring a designer!! (and cheaper too! LOL)

So here are some new photo's. The first one is the paint color behind the built-in's without the flash. This photo is MUCH truer to color then the previous ones (at least on my screen). I should mention - my house is DARK!! You would think that living in FL and all the windows and doors - it would be "brighter" but because of all the porch overhangs, it is a pretty dark home.

Here is a "new drape" that I found that is very close to the "terra cotta" color - with the flash on so really in my room, it appears darker then the photo. (this color much better IMO then the red drapes) I like it...

Then I found this sage green with gold and terra cotta in it. I like this too - but think probably is to "heavy" for the room? It is also available in a deep gold. I am sure you'll all help me finalize this!

Finally - I found a "lighter" and "cream" color - and I really like this too and think that these may be it! ???? (they are just quickly hung - rods need to be shorter and they need to be hemmed and ironed.... What do you all think?

Your room is coming along great. I love to watch all the changes. Without the flash, I think that color on the back of shelves looks good and I like the first set of new drapes. The terra cotta ones.

Hi Tinker! Your house is just lovely.

I LOVE the 1st drapes on this most recent photo - the linen look terracotta ones. Perfection - to me. 2nd drapes too heavy - cream drapes too shiny. Another option is a cream linen. The texture of the 1st drapes seems to really fit the "feel" of your room.

I like the color behind the built-ins. I would live with it until you get your new mantel built.

I like the lamp in your entry. Can't see the pic b/c of the flash - but do you need to lower the pic to relate to items on the chest? What about 2 groovy stools to place on each side of the chest? Something totally unexpected. I am actually on the hunt for some groovy stools myself.

Your house is beautiful & you are doing a great job!!

I like the drapes in the order you posted them. Really like the terra ones. Also think the paint looks a lot nicer without the flash! #2 I think is heavy but also the pattern on that and the pattern on the chairs...don't care for it. #3. at first i thought it was the color I didn't care for but it may just be the shine.
I also like the lamp in the entry.

LOL... now I have a small problem. 1) I just bought new paint, but so far - it seems as though I should keep the terra-cotta!! ??? That's not the problem... the problem is the drapes that everyone so far likes.. the terra cotta ones.. I am not showing the whole picture - they are 95" and are grommet style (I hung them upside down for the photo!! These happened to be my very first choice a couple weeks ago, and sent me onto a fabric search to find the fabric or something similar - which I never did. So.... what if I lower the rods close to the door top?? Will that look weird? Pillows on the chairs... need to replace too I think ??

I really love the terra cotta drapes, but am not a fan of the way it looks in the bookcases. Is the original gold color just a darker shade of the color on the walls? I wonder if instead of the terra cotta on the walls (which looks pink to me), to just paint a darker shade of the color on the walls. I also like the suggestion of larger items.

And, I love that piece you have in your entry, though I wondering if it's a little too small for the space. I think maybe something a little longer and a little taller would help with that very large (more tall) wall? And perhaps a larger picture or more things to fill up the space a little?

Anyway, just some thoughts. ^_^

nonchalant, the color on the walls is SW blonde, and in the entry and the original deeper gold is 3 shades deeper on the strip. To me - it looked a bit "blah" and that's why I decided to try the terra cotta. The entry piece - that must stay as I just bought it 6 weeks ago!! DH would bury me alive!!!

phoggie , I forgot to answer about the shade - it is Ivory and the darkest one they had beside brown or black.

johnatemp, I have another terra cotta drape that I didn't take a photo of, because it is silk and too shiny. I finally figured it out with the help of everyone here - the shiny material does not work!!!

You have worked so hard on this - and it will be worth the work in the end, as the room will really make you smile when you walk by or when you come in the front door. Hang in there!

Still don't like the terracotta in the bookcases, because of what it does to the wood tones. I would think about doing the same deeper color that you have in the entry alcove.

The cream drapery gives a nice effect, tho I would rather see a warmer color, more like the background of the rug. I do agree that the silky shine is just not fitting the feel of the space. The other thing is that the one panel on each end is not proportionally enough drapery for the size of the window. Even if you only want the panels to hang down on the ends and never be closed, you need them to have enough volume and visual weight to look like they could cover more of the windows. Skimpy is NOT the look you want with your lovely furnishings!

Terra cotta panels are okay, but again too skimpy, and just not very interesting; maybe if they had more texture or trim or something?

I really like the sage/gold/terra cotta panels, because they have enough visual weight, but I do think they are a bit too wintry and heavy for the house.

What about something like this? I think either color combo would work, tho I prefer the leaf. Probably two panels per window.

The other one that might be good is this one from Silk Trading Co. I think the cream or the linen would be nice, a softer look that still has some color in it, including a bit of the blue that I have been trying to force on you! LOL

I still don't like the terracotta paint in the bookshelves because it looks too pink. The yellow/gold tones in the room just fight with it, imo. The first curtains are my favorites. The second set are too heavy (you were right about that reaction!) and the third are the wrong colour and weight (too light) and too silky for that application.

I still would like to see a linen weave at the window and a not-terracotta paint behind the shelves, just to compare. Of course, that's easy for me to say because you are the one running around exchanging and hanging curtains and painting! :)

Here's a rectanglar mirror with gold accents that happen to echo that main accent on your foyer chest. Might work ....... :)

Perhaps someone could photoshop in place?

BTW -- the lamp looks just so right on the foyer chest -- just remove the faux grass and the vase (on the floor) and the woven basket on the floor. Plug in the lamp -- and add the matching candlesticks to the floor on the right hand side. THEN add a tallish faux plant or arrangement on the left.

If the colors on my monitor read true, I really like the terra cotta drapes and paint (wihtout the flash). I've made panel drapes longer in the past by adding a contrasting material to the top and sides about 3-4 inches wide and also adding tabs to the top out of the contrasting material. You can add several inches between the band and the tabs and they will also give you a great "custom" look.

I love your room and what you are doing. A girl after my own decorating heart. We have "yellows and reds" going on in our new home too. I just received my chairs & have a lot more to do. Wish I was as far as you! Enjoy your beautiful room!

Les, I really like the first drapes (american living harbor stripe in leaf) but I always thought I should avoid strips because of the chairs being a strip? However, looking at the terra cotta drapes this AM - they look dark and heavy (I took the photo's in the best light yesterday). I did like the cream color as well (not the fabric) and it did give an airy feel to the room.

kswl, my thinking was it the color "flowed" with the fireplace and made it look better (I hate my fireplace). However, I did buy a cream color and I am going to try one side "to see".

teacats, thanks for your help on the entry! I really love that mirror and I am going to hunt a little locally to see if I can find a similar one in style and size. I have a homework assignment to complete on this area!

But back to the drapes!

Mommyto4 - I am doubting my skills, yet you make it sound easy!! The yellow and reds are such a "new" color for me - it's been a bit scary!! LOL. Normally - I am a green and beige girl... but decided to venture out!

Tinker....I LOVE to watch you do this....you are so good at it... Are you doing a different fireplace surround?...if so, maybe you should put all of this on hold until that gets done....it could change the entire look of that fireplace wall......you don't want to get it "too busy"......but I like the terra cotta colors.
Waiting to see what you do next~~~~ BTW, where do you shop that has so much variety?...surely not here in little ole Kansas!!

LOL.. thanks Phoggie. I am really getting all the accessories from a few local places. Mostly Homegoods/TJ maxx then a couple picture stores have a lot of things as well as Steinmart and Burlington Coat factory.

I just finished PAINTING AGAIN - just to see and I know everyone here will chime in with their favorite background color and I'll go from there. I don't think any of them look bad - but with this much work, I want the best look!

Drapes - I have some linen swatches coming. Think everyone, including myself agree that silk doesn't work at all here. Now to find the right one...

It's been fun doing this room, but I will be glad when it is done and I do walk in the house and just feel happy it's perfect!

Les, I forgot to mention - I see you trying to sneak that blue in! I have tried it - I swear!! I am though looking at adding more green! (plus the green is in the rug and the chairs)

I like the cream color or the original color for the back of shelves.Not the terra cotta
I was looking at these at JCPenney and thought about your room. In the toffee color.

Tinker, I am stunned at how good that color looks in the back of the bookcases! and...embarrassed that I didn't think of it before.

You must have gone through h*ll having to paint a lighter color over the dark one. Don't change it!!

Looking good. I really like the new lamp shades, much more better! And the candle sticks echoing the lamp is nice. If the lamp was larger, that'd be perfect. I too vote for the terra cotta drapes. Love the entry way. It's really coming along.

Parma42... yes, H*ll! I hope everyone else thinks the same as you - and I, because I painted BOTH sides the cream/ivory! I went a hair darker as it seemed to white to me - but I think the majority here thought the terra cotta was just a bit too much, and although I really did like it, it was bugging me how all the accessories were getting lost. Now that it is all cream, the room feel not so dark. So anyway - it will be staying cream - at least for a while!!

Drapery hunting seems a little less challenging then 2-3 weeks ago, as I was 100% unsure! Now I feel like I KNOW I need to stay in some type of Linen fabric - that does help!

Gosh, Tinker, I really like your fireplace :) I didn't realize you were trying to use colour to distract or camouflage the bricks. You said above you were not loving the cream colour and I am thinking it is just exactly what your bricks need to quiet them down! Seriously, the cream tone just looks more grown up, somehow, in in that room, if that makes any sense. I salute your limitless energy and good humour...

Cream/Ivory for the bookshelf walls.

Simple linen or linen-blend drapes. In an ivory color, maybe even with a bit of design (see link).

I would try to match the color of the drapes to the bookshelf walls.

It will look spectacular. :)

lyban, thanks for the link! They say they are in our stores locally, so I am heading to the stores to 1. make returns!! and 2) look so more!

OS, they look like they could work - except, the ebay ones are too short! I just found out I have a RH store nearby that I never have checked out!! Busy day today!!! LOL (but rather be doing this than holding a 9 to 5!)

Tinker, I think Pottery barn has cream colored linen drapes, too.

I also agree with Les about 2 panels on each side - they should look like you could pull them closed even if you aren't closing them.

I saw some gorgeous ready made linen drapes at Calico corners. They had beautiful fringe coming down the sides. You could buy ready mades & hot glue your own trim down the sides - gorgeous!!

I love the terra cotta color on the wall and on my monitor it looks great with the rest of your stuff. I think you've got to stare at it awhile and base your decision on what you're seeing in real life.

The only thing I'd suggest is playing some more with your arrangements on the shelves. I notice that everything is to the right and left. I'd love to place that large platter in the middle and work around it! ;)

Long day! I returned all the trial drapes and went to Linen and Things, Sears, JCPenney's, RH AND Pottery Barn!!! The first 4 stores - really carry mostly silky, shiny drapes - but I did see the ones lyban suggested - and I like them a lot. They are much darker than the cream, but I ordered them anyway - just to try. I really loved the leaf ones that Les suggested (from Penney's) but they don't carry them in any lengths longer then 95". I might as well get it right at this point!

Looked at Pottery barn & Restoration hardware... Pottery barn is a LOT less expensive - but RH were nicer in feel and color, so I ordered them as well!

I still have other fabric swatches coming in, including the other one Les suggested... THIS IS A LOT OF WORK!!! LOL

DH doesn't like the cream... likes the darker gold better, but now that I have been staring and staring at it... here are my thoughts. The darker gold just wasn't doing it for me - guess that's why I painted over it in the first place! I Did/do still like the terra-cotta, but now that the cream is there, it is more an "airy", "lighter" feel, plus the accessories do look better. It's a keeper for me - and I'll be posting new pictures tomorrow.

Found another console table lamp... it's different, and I paused for a long while before putting it in my shopping cart. I should have paused a bit longer and left it at the store - it's ugly and one of those "What was I thinking?". It's already back in the car to return. :(

johnatemp, what a great idea - that could really add a lot... now just need the panels!

annz, I moved and added a few things around. Still need to find some larger items.... which I was "I dream of Jeanie" and could nod my head a bit and have it done!! Oh well...

update - (pic's) new lamp, new shade, drapes in progress....
