Please show me your clear mini pendants - kitchen island?
Comments (4)My island will be 3x5, and I'm also going with two pendants. This is what I went with (from Restoration Hardware). They have several pendants, including an identical one in a polished nickel shade that I was going back and forth on, but I went with the ribbed glass in the end. Comments (11)Badgergal, your Otto pendants are beautiful and look so great with your tile BS. I noticed the height difference in your reveal post -- looks good. Pricklypear, I've debated the curvy track a lot. This island lighting issue is going to give me an ulcer, lol. Amanda, thanks, I like both Tech pendants too. When you say I should pay for more holes, do you mean I should use those pendants without a track? GWlolo, believe me, I have been shopping around a lot for track systems. Because of our vaulted ceiling, which is 10' high above the island, I need a system that has 2' rigid supports as an option. That seems to eliminate most companies. We were originally going with a Bruck system with their Rome pendant, but my designer did not like their cable supports and how many would be required. (Plus, the cost was not any lower.) Hosenemesis, I'm glad to hear you like the Dervish too. I think 3 of them would be too much for an 8' island. Just to clarify, I am trying to decide between using 3 smaller pendants, like the 5" diameter Tech pendants, or 2 larger (15" or 22" diameter) pendants, like the Dervish. I welcome more comments on which option is better for an 8' x 4.5' island. TIA!...See MoreShopping for mini clear glass pendants? Please help
Comments (10)These are minimalist/contemporary, clear glass, made in Denmark. We have them with a very modern-looking LED bulb (by Switch) and it's a cool look. It could work in your kitchen too. These don't have any metal so you don't have to worry about bronze vs stainless, etc. Here is a link that might be useful: & Tradition Bulb Pendant...See MorePendant lights – frosted vs. clear??
Comments (3)It's largely a matter of taste, but frosted will diffuse the light and illuminate more evenly. Depending on the style of the fixture, clear can introduce artifacts either from the bulbs or the glass into the illumination. I've seen many clear fixtures project all sorts of weird spots through a room. Frosted glass hides the lightbulbs which gives you more flexibility in what light bulbs you use which can be critical when adjusting for task lighting. The Edison lightbulb and farm/industrial look fad has really lead to a surge in clear fixtures in recent years. The question remains of whether people will get tired of that look and having to see exposed lightbulbs. Clear fixtures I would use more for accent purposes, and frosted otherwise as a more even light without the potential of glare and artifacts is generally much better for actual work lighting. There are of course, exceptions to these generalizations in each category. I've seen pendants take on a primarily task related duty for illuminating an island as a work space (and others just being used in an ambient role) so part of your decision may rest on what role you see the pendants playing in your overall light scheme...See MoreNewSouthernBelle
