Why don't you do a mock-up using brown paper rectangles taped to the wall. Then take a photo and post it here.

Can you take some pictures so we can see?

I don't think I would like the prints extending past the edge of the bed. I think two would be better, or perhaps four stacking two over each other. Also 3" sounds like good spacing to me.

This might not matter to you, but IIRC, from a feng shui point of view, things in pairs above the master bed are preferred.

Duh, yeah a mock-up. I've only seen that done here 1000 times, don't know where my brain is! Finally got it done and got some pictures to post. Took me awhile, 'cause those darn kids insist on eating supper EVERY night. ;-) Pardon the room, it's kind of a mess right now, but I managed to keep most of that out of the picture. I just threw the bed together to show the colors of the bed coverings.

One other question I thought of after looking more closely at it...should the height they're hung at be centered between the bed & crown molding, or be closer to the bed??

Two. And I think closer to the bed.

I like the height of your mockups. And secure them well - don't want "crashboombang" on your head LOL!

megsy - interesting about pairs over the bed and feng shui. I have 2 bronze/ceramic hangings I wanted over our bed but thought rule of thumb for decorating was to use odd numbers of things. Of course, my hangings aren't as big as CBB's prints.

I like two. That also leaves room for taller lamps or drapery panels, if that is in your plans.

Threes are most for three dimensional groupings, like a lamp, a plant and a statue. And actually it's more a matter of odd numbers looking better together than evens. Doesn't pertain to wall art that I know of. : )

ajamama, I laughed when I saw Chris's nickname after reading her subject too.

Three looks best! They look good a little closer to the bed frame and in separate frames, just like you have the mock-ups. Having only two makes it look like you have tombstones over the bed -- talk about bad feng shui!

The size of the actual prints is only 11x14. I figured the size of these based on using a 2-1/2 inch frame with 4 inches of mat all the way around, just because I thought the wide mat would look nice. So 13 inches of the width of each one is frame & mat, either of which could be reduced to make 3 prints fit, if that would look better. I'm having the frames made, but haven't ordered them yet.

That tombstone thing made me laugh!

I like two because you'll be adding drapery panels eventually and three will look crowded. I like the placement in the mock-up.

Two, a little closer together, and lower. I would line the top of the frames up with the bottom of the trim piece below your transom. You want the prints to relate visually to the bed, forming a coherent composition. Higher, and they appear to have slipped their moorings and be floating up to the ceiling. And lining them up with an existing architectural line will make them settle right in, and avoid adding a stairstep in the wall.

With actual framed images, I think you will lose that tombstone thing altogether.

Someone suggested to me that your height should be at 60" for the middle of the pictures. I used that when doing mine and it looks great. Since I am short, only 5ft, I tend to hang things too high, thinking most people would want to see them higher. I just hung two pictures above my bed and they were 17"x15" and 15"x15". I think I got them a little too close but I agree on two, not three.

Three overwhelms the bed and is out of proportion to the space alotted the pictures.

I am in the 'three' camp! That mockup appeals to me the most! I do agree with 'hung closer to the bed', like in the mockup.

Ajsmama and Justgotta, me too. I live in earthquake country and when I saw "Question about hanging pictures above the bed" by Crashboombang -- well, LOL!

I like the three pictures very much. It fills the wall in a pleasant way and I think incorporates the nightstands visually. Besides, in decorating remember the 3, 5, 7 rule!

Do please be careful to hang them so if they fall they drop behind the headboard and not in front of it on your head!

And please show us a picture of them after you hang them up.

I vote for two, closer to the bed than the crown molding. I am taking the drapes into account and the feng shui aspect would seal the deal for me.

I think they only look like tombstones because they are blank. When it is art, it won't look like tombstones. That said, I kinda like the three picture better. It isn't too much because it flows with the windows and the nightstands which extend the whole grouping outward.
