You've done a fantastic decorating job and I wouldn't add another thing to it. I love the restraint you've used, any more would be edging on cluttering. Love it!!!!

The only thing that is off to my eye - but may be just fine in person - are the two pictures behind the desk. I know you offset them on purpose but I think they either need to be offset more or hung evenly. There isn't enough of a difference the way they are and it looks a bit odd - at least in the photo. As I said, may be fine in person.

Very calming. I love the wainscoting addition to the room! I would add more of the boat pics also...if not, I would hang the others level. The pictures you had behind the desk before (with the trees) looked nice at different levels, but they were larger? Like the pp said, it probably looks just fine in person. I am excited to see your other rooms.

Allison, I always love seeing photos of your house, don't know how I've missed your DD's rooms! I had a really hard time deciding whether to go with the loft shade that you purchased or the knock off at Overstock. Since we only plan to stay here another two years, I opted for the knock off. It pleases me very much that you thought it was the real thing. I figured if I hated it I could send it back and if I liked the knock-off then I would buy the original and put it away for the next house! I think the main differences are mine is more of an antique brass with a cream silk shade and the other is ORB with a white paper shade?

The rug is also and Overstock purchase. This is the first time I've ordered from them and have not been disappointed. I first ordered the same rug in the smallest size available to see if I liked it before purchasing the larger size.

Musicteacher, yes we did the walls ourselves. I drew everything out on graph paper first, then actually drew the boxes on the wall using my design and DH just cut the trim and nailed it up. Coming up with the correct dimensions took longer than actually attaching the trim! I have clutter too, I just threw the weeks worth of mail into the desk chair so you can't see it in the photos!

lol I thought your shade was shiny, but then thought maybe it was just the photo. Yes, the SoL fixture is dark rust, almost black iron looking, exterior (holding shade) and interior ORB (part holding bulbs). The shade is a super thick paper. It's a nice piece. You'd love it.

Gorgeous! I'm always so excited to see the pictures that I sometimes don't pay attention to the text, so I thought your first pic was the makeover and it was beautiful. But the real makeover--wow--stunning!!

I know I posted already, but I also loved both the first set of pictures and then the wow stunning pictures! I used to have a prettier home office with a cherry credenza to match my cherry desk but I need file cabinets and I did damage to my former car from hitting them in the garage so I had to bring them all back into my home office. But I love both sets of pictures but the new pictures have a wow factor! You definitely have talent!

One day I want a bigger home to have a finished basement to keep all my putty file cabinets in. I agree less is more in an office to make it beautiful.

You know I love it. You have done a beautiful job with both your office and your dining room. Now tell me, which room do you like the best? How does your DH and family feel about the darker paint colors?

I think it looks great but also would offset the pictures more or make them even. They do not look deliberate enough in the offsetting.

Sorry I haven't answered the questions. Been away for a few days.

It's funny about those two boat prints as they weren't meant to be offset. The picture hangers that I attached to the wall are the same distance from the ceiling! The problem is that the picture wire attached to the prints isn't the same length so one ended up hanging lower than the other and I didn't want to make new holes in my freshly painted wall! Now that I think about it, I guess the easiest way to fix it is to shorten the wire that is too long. Duh???

Caminnc, thank you! Have you painted yet? I was thinking about you and your black dining room the other day and was hoping to see your finished photos. Our dining room is still in progress. I did the same drapes in there as I used in the study. I like them and they work okay, but there's no dramatic WOW factor. I guess that's the chance you take when you order 25 yards of fabric from a 6" swatch! It took me about two months to sew the 8 drapes since I work full time and have three munchkins home from school for the summer. I found art work that I love for the dining room and that has been hung also. The only think left is to paint the ceiling and then DH is going to add trim to make a coffered ceiling. He doesn't mind the dining room black but admits he likes the gray study a lot more. I'm enjoying both rooms after living with the restrained gold for so long and can give you a more honest answer as to which room I like best once the dining room ceiling is complete.

cooperbailey, yes I sewed them myself. I don't consider myself a talented seamstress but I took my time, measured, pressed and pinned the hems carefully and they turned out really nice. I think the fact that they are striped really helped as it gave me a straight line to use for turning under the sides which made it much easier to sew. I couldn't find any striped silk premade drapes in the color family I was looking for and happened across this at fabric.com. It was on clearance for $9.49 per yard so including the liner I made each panel for about $40!

I love the before and the after. You have great taste, and the new look is so soothing. I bet you love it in that room. Sigh . . . and I'm still working on finishing the rooms in our home that we built four years ago.
