I have actually found that I am a little sorry I put in the soap dispenser at all, I use my soap frequently in both sinks and am having a hard time having it stationary. Otherwise, I use a dish soap that is gentle on the hands also, in order to have eliminated one of the soaps on the counter... :)

I'm thinking of just using one, for hand soap. Although I'll only have one sink, I want to be able to move the soap to the dirty dish or pan, not have to move the pan to the dispenser.

In the kitchen we just left, I installed a hand soap dispenser to the right of the faucet. LOVED it! To the left of the faucet was the water dispenser of an RO unit. After a couple years we decided the RO unit was more bother than it was worth, so we took it out and replaced it with another dispenser, which I used for dish soap. I liked it but probably won't intentionally plan for the second dispenser in the new kitchen.

I had 2 soap dispensers in the kitchen of my last home, and I will have 2 in this one, when the kitchen is finished that is! I don't like washing my hands with dish soap for some reason, it feels slimy or something to me. I'll have the Kohler Vinnata faucet so with 2 dispensers, I'll have 3 holes. I hope it looks okay, the Vinnata looks huge in the box. In the last house, I had a 1-3/4 sink and a KWC pullout, and it looked fine.

Thank you everyone for your input! Sounds like there are an equal amount of people who like/ don't like soap dispensers, as well as, those who would prefer one or two dispensers. I'm still leaning toward putting a second dispenser in. I understand not wanting to move the pot to the soap but I often just squirt the soap on the sponge that I'm cleaning with. Otherwise, I'll have a portable dish soap on the counter and since I'm always trying to declutter I thought I would just install it in the granite like the hand soap. Thanks again! Any other opinions regarding one or two soap dispensers?

We talked about putting in two dispensers like you...one for hand and one for dish soap. However, we realized that while a stationary hand soap dispenser is fine, we prefer to have our dish soap mobile--so we can squirt the soap exactly where we want it, use it in BOTH bowls, etc.

Several people have two dispensers and one comment was that guests had to "guess" which one was for hand soap. At least one person solved that problem, though, by putting a smiley face on her hand soap dispenser and she said everyone knew that had to be the hand soap!

So, I suggest you think about how you use your dish soap...

(1) do you like to squirt it in particular places in pans, etc. or do you not care where it goes?

(2) do you mind that to use it you will always have to bring the pan/dish to the dispenser and the soap will only dispense on the edge?

(3) do you have a 1-bowl or 2-bowl sink? If 2-bowl, you will only be able to dispense soap into the bowl it's behind.

The answer to these questions should help you decide on whether to put in one or two dispensers.

About 10 years ago, I replaced a spray with a dish-soap dispenser. I used it so little that when I needed a new faucet, I got a spray again. As long as I had to get under the sink to get the sponge, cloth or chore boy, I may as well grab the soap while I'm at it. As for hand soap, I like the foamy kind. That doesn't work in a built-in dispenser. So no soap dispensers for me.

I LOVE having a soap dispenser (dish soap) and never even thought about "getting the soap to the pot". On those occasions I just squirt the soap on a sponge and then transfer it to the pot. I use the dish soap to wash my hands also, but I don't think that having two dispensers would look bad. I think having a dish soap or hand soap container standing on the counter looks bad, unless you put it into some type of pretty container. I keep my sponges in the sink tilt-out. By the way, we are mid-renovation, and using the tiny kitchen in our guest house (24" frig, 24" range, etc.) and the one thing I miss the most is the instant hot water dispenser.

One versus two... I struggled with the same decision. I decided only to go with one for a few reasons:

1. I wanted as few holes drilled into my granite as possible
2. Knew I'd lose track of what is hand vs what is dish soap -- and couple that with guests coming over, playing the guessing game... didn't want to deal with it (also, my mom has two & it drives me nuts... can never remember which is which).
3. Finally, I loved the idea of using the never-mt with dish soap - rarely changing it, etc. For hand soap, I do like to switch things up a bit, changing "flavors" every now and then

We went with one & it has worked great for the last 6 months.

I didn't agonize over this decision as I KNEW we were a family who needs a mobile dish soap! Also the hand soap that I prefer from Bath & Body works comes in a nice container. But the most important reason was to have the least amount of holes in the granite, i.e. less things to wipe around.

Thanks again for the many responses! I'm sure I should know this but what is a RO unit? Also, if there are fewer holes in the granite but more things on top of the granite (i.e. portable container of dish soap) then does it really matter? I guess it's just a matter of preference, number or holes in the granite vs. number of bottles sitting on top of the granite. I value any other thoughts on this. Thanks again!

RO stands for reverse osmosis. It is a type of water filter.

We're putting a soap dispenser for dish soap at the clean-up sink and one for hand soap at the prep sink. I'll probably have to point out which is which for guests, but our guests don't usually wash their hands in the kitchen.

As usual, buehl, you've made some good points in your above post ...

For me, the stationary dispenser will dispense hand soap, and I'll keep the dish soap under the sink, or maybe in a narrow pull-out next to the sink. (Wouldn't want to reach under the sink for hand soap when I've just been handling raw chicken!)
