Thanks for your response, Parma. Yes, the green would start in the corner to the left of the slider (behind the hutch) and carry around the 3 walls of the kitchen. There really isn't that much wall space in the kitchen itself and lots of white tile and appliances. Wish I could do something about the funky oak cabinets, but that's for another day and a different budget. :) I'm inclined to agree with you about not doing that narrrow, tall piece of wall with the cat picture.

Thanks everybody! It makes me feel much better to know others like the color, too. Awm, I love the triple windows as well. That dormer has a built-in window seat with bench storage in the little room; there is so much potential there! I'll try to get a picture of the front steps and flowers, but my camera isn't cooperating right now. boysrus2, thanks for the compliment. It really did make a big difference to curb appeal. jakeabedy, thanks for the link; I love that bungalow. I so wanted to paint my sashes a deep red, and even tested it on several windows. The problem was that the porch is so dark that the windows disappeared when I tried it. It would have worked on the upper triple windows, but then the front door sidelights and downstairs windows would just dissolve into the black glass. I drove around the historic district and noted several painted sashes, but no one with a deep porch that pulled it off. We debated for a long time, but couldn't find any accent color that didn't just disappear in the darkness.

I'm not sure about the color choice. And that doesn't mean I don't like it, I just struggle with picking my own colors that I can't help you with this. If you think it will look good, you should give it a try. You can buy a can of sample paint and try it out on a poster board that you can move around the room. A lot of people love the Wyeth Blue and Palladian Blue from BM. They seem like really nice colors. I totally agree with staining the island dark. You will love that. PLUS, if it looks incredible, you never know what Mr. Lottie might do next! Gel stain for all!!! We call this "Baby Steps". You may secretly have a plan but you give him only what he needs to know. If you like the look, you can secretly manipulate the situation so that Mr. Lottie thinks it was his idea to continue on and do the whole kitchen. It's a fun place, but you're ready for change. I think the wide dining room stripes are in conflict with the more narrow shiplap, so that's a place to start. If I were going to do more shiplap, I'd do it in the dining room, not the yellow room. You could take it all the way up to the division between the lower and upper parts of your windows, Top it with a plate rail, and then add a nice pop of color at the top, like the cherry red from the chairs. Start a collection of plates to put on the rail. If one of those two DR walls is wide enough for the china cabinet to stand against it, I would reverse the two pieces there so nothing has to be cornered. Unless you're really tired of it, I think the yellow could stay for a while. Think about slipcovering the sofa and chairs in the cream color from the buffalo check chair, and get a new rug and pillows to change the vibe.
