new granite installed, chip or divot

In would like some opinions on what's acceptable. I am very pleased with the install but noticed this located at the seam.
The installer might have mentioned it was glued, not sure but its rough to the touch. Someone is coming back out today to try and fix it but I remember the guy mentioning it was already glued.

How should this be handled? Everything else went so well, I sent pic and mentioned this issue the day of install.
Live with it? Partial refund? Raise hell?

I am not sure so asking here.

Other pic of kitchen, the chip is located at the L towards the front of pic, everything else is single piece.

Totally a non issue. Epoxy fill will take care of it and you will have to actively hunt for that spot in a few weeks.

I, too, have a crack in my granite on the front-side of the sink to the front-edge of the granite. They epoxied it and grinded it onsite, but i can feel it and see it if i look closely enough. They made the the 'mistake' of telling me before they repaired it (per the stoneshop owner), so they knocked off $300 from my total cost. An important question to ask is whether or not they reinforced the granite with steel rods in the front and the rear of the sink opening. That will give you a better indication of whether or not the crack could worsen over time or if another area could crack. Also, be sure to have them epoxy it. The glue will keep that seam together long after the rest of the countertop has crumbled ;). One bit of advice my granite guy gave me is that if i ever chip it and can find the chip, superglue it back in and it'll hold without issue. Now finding the chip when you do it is the magic part.

According to granite fabricator, he said they will come back and do a walk through with us and fix everything once everything is installed. Yes there is a GC. I think this might be the 1st time he has used this guy. He chose him, not us and no I did not see anything written. We live in a major city so yes there are factory fabricators. I don't know enough about construction and apparently am too trusting of my GC. Now I am realizing many more things that were not done correct according to what I am reading. Mainly, plywood was NOT put on top of my cabinets prior to granite going on and the sinks (all sinks in the whole house) are only being held with epoxy, no clips, no plywood "sandwich" nothing. Just sick about this whole situation!

I'm wondering if this is Chinese Black Galaxy that has been dyed. It looks white on the cut edge and the scratches appear to show white, so it stands to reason polishing the scratches would expose more white. See this thread. It's naturally-occuring. I bought a granite remnant that had one--I think they called it a crystal pop-out, and they filled it with clear epoxy. I was told that the epoxy could pop out and need to be refilled, but it's still in place five years later. At the very least you want it filled so it doesn't collect gunk. I don't know if they're able to top polish the chippy seam but I'd ask. The best thing to do is talk to the fabricator about your concerns. People on GW aren't running his business and he may have a business philosophy of making sure the customer is satisfied. Ask him why he didn't match the seam better while you're at it. Because of the available material, they may not have had much choice of where to seam the slabs. Some really try to make a good match but some have no artistic eye for slab layout.

agree. very few granite installers are actually truly 'perfect" due to the nature of stone. Chips like that are often filled before the stone leaves the fab shop with no one the wiser. On occasion you'll get a chip like that at install and it needs follow-up.

So the epoxy fill will never come out? We have a natural pit in our new granite bath counter top that they filled. We were told that it could pop out in the future. True?

Thanks all , he was here 10 mins its as smooth as a .... Well you know.
Very pleased, he used a special glue they have after razoring off the bump I felt.

Next week you could drop a pan or your husband/kids could drop a hammer on your counters and you could end up causing a dent/chip just like that. It happens and isn't worth getting too upset!

Its called glacier, it has more browns than it looks... And was a bit darker than we thought but it will work.
