LOL September, our shop vac has been a permanent fixture in our house for nearly a year now! What used to only see the light of day when we cleaned our cars (which wasn't often) has now become our newest accessory inside the house!

In our last remodel, (in Ohio in November), after an exterior wall was demolished to make room for a bigger kitchen and addition, the GC put up a temporary wall made of plywood. After he did the demolition and the wall, he started slacking. I knew we had reached a low when I walked into my kitchen and saw a mouse squeezing under the plywood wall. I stood there banging my pots and pans trying to get it to go back outside. I succeeded for the moment, but one night I came home and my babysitter told me she was sitting in my living room watching TV (kids in bed) --- The living room was like 12x14 and it now had all living room furniture, kitchen appliances and dining room table --- so no room to walk. Anyway, she saw an entire family of mice scurry under the refrigerator. She ran upstairs b/c she was scared into my master which had dishes piled up in the bathroom sink (yes, this was my "dishwasher" for 6 months). She was not psyched to come back to our disaster! We finally got it finished and the first time we turned on the gas fireplace the addition burned down. I was very pregnant and we had tarps coving all of the holes in the roof and walls (welcome back mice). My mother in law called me at the hospital (while giving birth) to let me know if was windy and raining and the tarps had blown off and my beautiful new cherry floors were getting soaked --- She wanted to know what should she do?) So, feel better about your shopvac --- at least yours still works --- that disaster ruined our shopvac once and for all!!
In the end, it was all worth it, happy shopvaccing!!

I am using the laundry room as a kitchen and have to use the Shop-Vac to clean out the utility sinks before I use them. We are renovating above the laundry room and I have never seen so much dust, sawdust, nails and who-knows-what come down from above. And this is with plastic drop cloths stapled to the ceiling.

I will never complain about having to load or unload the dishwasher again....

mythreesons- many of those scenarios are all too familiar. The circumstances differ but I feel like I've been through a similar ringer as you described (hand-injury almost loosing 4 fingers, 50+lb ground hog around foundation/in cellar, boxes to ceiling-cant go in cellar w/gh, flashing leak ruined 2 antique oils and ceiling, waiting to install final side of cedar lapboard-temp. siding T-111 is warping exposed house wrap,...). I'm glad that you were able to see the light and focus. The positive at least I don't have children to complicate the project, Wait, I'm -I missing out on cheap labor? LOL.

I came home today to a 4page citation from the city re: the outside of my house. In an attempt to rehabilitate a derelict shotgun from mid-1800's, I've been given a time frame which they expect "everything outside to be complete" -30days. That would be my dream come true! However, that's not financially or chronologically possible.

Heaven forbid, I just want one room inside to be done so I can come home and sit down, instead of going straight to bed for lack of living area.

It will evolve into a wonderful home, one day, with patience (not apathy). It was the worst by far on the block- rental/vacant for the past 10 years. I need to focus much smaller so I can enjoy the little accomplishments. Perhaps finishing my kitchen counters... Anything.

Glad to hear it was all worth it. That's very encouraging.

Glad I'm not all alone in this. Perhaps there will be some ideas forthcoming to jump start the motivation.

Ugh! I just read through this. I am so sorry to rant that's just not me. I just need to have a little push to get motivated and re-event my enthusiasm towards my Projects (all of them). Again, many apologies- you are all so helpful & I know from reading others posts that this wouldn't fall on deaf or inexperienced ears.

Mythreesons, what a story!!!!!!!!! Now I can't feel sorry for myself anymore because my problems pale in comparison to what you went through! So glad to hear it was all worth it. Thanks for sharing.
