Congrats on the upcoming remodel! I like the linen color, and the colors in the renderings, though the tea leaf looks a little dark in the real sample. For a small space, I would think it best to keep all uppers one color and lowers another so that the runs of cabinets aren't broken up (like the different sink cabinet/dishwasher) - it will look larger and more streamlined. As for the layout, the range wall looks good, but I would make the uppers on the sink wall to the right all 24" since it looks a little odd with the three different sizes, even if it means forgoing the symmetry around the sink. In the first rendering the bottom drawer cabs are the same, but different sizes in the second - I would also try and keep these the same size.

Thanks for the feedback! Oh I forgot about the uppers - yes I am planning on going back to 24" on all the uppers - we should be able to have the one above the DW be 24" also. I'm wondering if we can maybe get the drawers to all be 30" also. We've got a 6" filler on the far right because of the refrigerator sticking out but we are planning to move and replace the fridge before ordering cabinets so we should have a better idea of how much space we really need to clear the fridge then. If they can't be the same size hopefully using the same amount of hardware on each and having them just 3" different won't be too big of a deal.

Here's one of my favorite kitchens with all green lowers and white uppers. Having the walls light really makes the uppers almost disappear which is nice I think too.

More thoughts?

Sorry to keep bumping but I was really hoping for more feedback before I talk with the designer again. I know it's not an exciting kitchen but since it's so small I really want to make sure I don't miss anything.

First of all, let me be upfront and say I am new here and have no idea what I'm talking about yet. However, since you are looking for thoughts, I'll chime in if for no other reason than to provide something to stir up discussion.

It looks like the wall to the left in your picture has an opening to another room, is that correct? That wall looks like it will be bare in the remodel. My MIL has one of those openings and loves it because she can do the dishes at the sink and still join the conversation and keep am eye on things. What about moving the sink to under the opening?

I've also read that range hoods vent much better than microwaves. If you leave the range along the wall it is currently on, you could vent it with a hood to the outside if budget allows.

That opening will still be there, open to a family room addition. I like the opening but we can't make it any bigger. That wall wouldn't be big enough for sink and DW I don't think (unless we changed to an L??) so we'd still be left with the DW somewhere that it either blocks cabinets or you get stuck behind it when its open. I'm hoping that by removing the cabinets under the opening it will make it feel even more connected since we can get closer to the opening if that makes sense.

I wasn't sure about moving the stove at first since its not on an exterior wall but both the kitchen designer and contractor I talked to said it isn't an issue and is even somewhat preferred in our cold climate to avoid chilly air around the microwave which I know I've experienced in the past. I too have heard about hoods being better but I'm not doing major frying often at all and the OTR microwave was replaced in the last few months so I'm planning to keep it. The KD opted to move the stove to get it away from the traffic flow in front of the refrigerator. I wasn't sure at first but now I really love the idea.
