Can I used scents meant for soap to add fragrance to lotions? Thanks!

I think you can. As long as it says that it is safe for 'bath & body'.

Agreed, It must say Skin safe. And some scents can only be used in a certain percentage because it remains on the skin, unlike soap that washes off the skin...

Scent from Above... I had it. Nice rose, healthy and very, very vigorous for me. Only a couple of drawbacks for me... One, it BS'd a lot (could have been my newbie faults though) and two, it started out a nice deep yellow, but it does fade quite a bit for me. I say I had it because I did shovel prune it the next year only because I wanted a more winter hardy rose up here in NE Ohio and one that wouldn't bs on me. So, I replaced with William Baffin. Got what I wanted! :) It is a very nice rose, just keep up with the BS though. I can't recall if it has any scent. Another good one that I had before replacing with Westerland is Social Climber from J & P. Very vigorous too, a deep pink that doesn't fade, and it doesn't bs half as much. Cathy

Yikes! I am having browser probs today, big time! No, using an anchor means to use another scent (EO) to help keep the fleeting EO around longer. Patchouli and Litsea cubeba are anchors I have used with success, but also keep in mind that lavender used at 1oz. per pound of oils will have good scent for up to 1 year without an anchor. ; make soap to last you for a year at a time of usage (and friends) and the scent should not be a problem. :). Many soapers when starting out don't use nor know about anchors, I am sort of sorry that I have mentioned it in here, but now you are aware. Hope I didn't confuse you the situation much:( This is not needed for FOs, for FOs should be designed to having staying power incorporated. A FO without staying power has not been designed well and you should look elsewhere.

depends on if you are doing melt & pour glycerin soap or if you are making cold proccess soap. If it's melt & pour, (M&P) it's easier to buy it already made into goatsmilk base....or you can ge plain & add your own goatsmilk powder to it. Then either fragrance/essential oil. This you can use immediately. If it's cold process you want to do, look on the web for recipies....it would involve palm, coconut, olive or vegetable oils (or a combination), lye, goatsmilk or goatsmilk poweder & fragrance/essential oil. THis has to age 4-6 weeks before using it. If you want to do cold process (CP) soap, it might be easier to start with a plain recpe first, then move to the more complicated ones. Good luck....both are fun to do. I'm just to impatient for the CP, so I went to the M&P. Plus the colors are brighter, & the scents can be made stronger in M&P...it's much more forgiving than CP. @sandy, nothing like eau(sp) de burnt rubber. Love me some Nascar Bud, not so much. Now Wild Turkey is something else. Around the RTP, it would be essence of sweat with all the sports organizations. You've got 3 major universities, a hockey team and minor league baseball team. Add to the lots of pine and oak trees. What a combo that would make. LOL

The amount of scent shouldn't be different for lotion or for soap. Although there are some benefits of some EOs. In fact, I would use less scent for lotion; you wouldn't want to wear it as perfume.

Some fragrance oils can ONLY be used at certain percentages that are directly applied to the body and NOT rinsed off.
It would be good to know that information.
I'm pretty sure that any reputable supplier selling fragrance oils that are skin safe would tell you if they needed to be used at a lower percentage in skin direct/staying products.

Sure,

There are maximum amounts of scent that can be used for skin products.

For Example; methlugin (sp?) is limited in how much of this chemical can be present in the different scents that may be used. sorry, I don't remember the details.

Clove EO (if memory serves, which stands out as one of the biggest culprits) has this chemical, among others. I am not a chemical kind of guy and the explaination of the hows and whys are too involved for me to relate(let alone remember).
