Does anyone have a recommendation for an on=line company to use for taking credit cards via web site? We take credit cards but still do the "manual" think on the web site. I think it's costing us sales since it's not as convenient as having a shopping cart. But --- I've also read horror stories about pay pal so am looking for alternatives. Any ideas?

I have used PayPal for several years with no problems at all. I do not have a shopping cart through them mostly because I did not want to do the real-time payments. With PayPal, the payment is taken right away from the customers card or account. That may be fine for some people, but I don't have the time to keep my website updated daily, and if someone ordered (and thus paid for) something I happened to be out of or did not have enough of to fill the order, then what a hassle ensued. I have plans to someday (stress the word someday) put in an order form that will submit to me, and then I, in turn, after checking inventory and etc., will submit to them a PayPal "Pay Me" statement. PayPal is probably the most widely accepted and widely recognized shopping cart/payment option. I would consider them.

I've used paypal for about 4 yrs now, with no problems.

Yes, they HAVE had some problems in the past...

Yes, there are horror stories.....

Yes you HEAR about the horror stories....

But overall they ARE a minute part of paypal.
And since ebay aquired paypal there have been much less of the horror stories.

Paypal could be, if nothing else, a short term solution until you find something else. Just transfer your balances out of your paypal account regularly & have them deposited into an account that is NOT your primary bank account. Preferably an account at another bank.

Just be VERY careful if you get orders from Nigeria or Indonesia. Both of those are where alot of the fradulent CC transactions orginate. Alot of online folks I know WON'T accept CC from either place.

I just had someone place an almost 200.00 order on my web site from Nigeria. After some checking, I sent them an email saying that I couldn't fill the order. THe address I was to deliver to was non existant......(I have my own merchant account, the accepting CC's from Nigeria & Indonsia was just an FYI, had nothing to do with Paypal.)

John, The area of 'why' is a wonderful addition but still ventures into the folklore perception. Most of the on-line charts show the why. There are a few sites that offer plants in answer to a problem. The latter sources are likely how you generated your chart and the effort is appreciated. The companion plant relationships are one area of personal study. My goal is finding actual facts offering the biological, chemical and/or ecological contribution. Some of the obvious are know symbiotics. I have posted a few links in Organic and Vegetable topics that have been looked at. It is very hard to locate specific relationship studies and suppose that there are few actual such studies. One item of note is the marigold action against nematodes. In report I have view they credit the exudates but after residue is incorporated and decomposing. The effect is generally of advantage in the following year of the incorporation. Food for thought and example of the information I hope to provide in such a chart. Good effort. Thanks.

was your email in reference to them traveling thru the SE next week with a truckload of palms? A friend of mine (and fellow SPS member) got the email too, but I didn't. I personally don't know much about them, but I'm sure I recall the owner of a N.C. palm nursery commenting on another palm board that Chilly Palms was an ok operation....for whatever that's worth.

The instructions I have from the seed packets I bought were to give them a cold period (I don't think a prior warm period is needed), then slowly raise the temperature after about three months of cold (alas I haven't had time to start those seeds yet). A quick increase in temperature seems to be harmful. I don't remember a light requirement at all. If I remember correctly, they will start germinating in the cold (roots only), but you will not see leaves until they move into warmth. They will flower in about three or four years. There are instructions here and there on the web, but I can't remember where they are, and my hard drive with the links had died. :( Sorry about that, but I hope this helps.

This is all over the place ghesssssssssss Let me get this straight, second story deck with a roof,like a torch down modified, stringers laying on the roof,decking fastened to the stringers. How am I doing so far. Dont use hardy plank or alum decking. There is no web site that will solve your problems. J.
