RECIPE: anyone doing South Beach?

I bought the guide book and think it looks healthier than Atkins. Problem is It's tough to find recipes that are "good carb" that will also taste good to my skinny husband who does not need to diet! Anyone have any good ones?

I'm not doing South Beach but I got this recipe from the book when I read it. It calls for part-skim ricotta but full fat is so much better if you can stand the fat grams.

SOUTH BEACH RICOTTA CREME
1/2 c ricotta cheese
1/4 t vanilla
1 pkt Splenda

Mix it up and chill.

For variations add cocoa powder or lemon or lime zest. Or, for almond, substitute almond extract and add some slivered almonds.

Cook's notes: This is quick and easy and satisfies my need for a little something sweet after a meal. I add extra Splenda for my sweet tooth.

I am doning the soth beach diet. If you get the book there is some recipes in at. And i have made the Ricotta cream and i like them. I have tryed all of them. Dh don't care for it but he will eat it if i put it in front of him. This is my second week on it.

I tried cuttings but failed, they seem very difficult, maybe if you had a mist propagation they'd live. My neighbors tried also and failed. Some types of beach sunflower will "volunteer" and after2.5 years some of mine have done that so I dug up the babies and potted them hoping to get them through the winter. If I were closer I'd donate some but am south of Sarasota on the west coast and they will not mail well at all. Denise

I live in the Jacaranda area of Broward and they are planted all over the place. The definitely blend in with the other trees unless they're in bloom. I think the ones around here are mimosfolia? I think either the nursery in Punta Gorda or Gardinos offer both species. I think it would be spectacular to have a street lined alternating jacarandas & Royal poiciannas. Imagine that show if they all bloomed at once!

Annie, was thinking of someway for you to fill in a few days with something that might be of interest. If you travel a bit north from Harlingen you'll bump into San Antonio. SA is about a 3 1/2 hour drive north of Harlingen - pretty wide open driving and nothing to slow you down. The King Ranch owns most of the land along this route. About 1/2 way between Harlingen and SA is one of the best BBQ places in Texas. There are several Motel 6's in the SA area. You might find bargains on the Riverwalk this time of the year (off season) and maybe you'd be nearer many of the major attractions/history. There are many things of interest that would keep you moving and out of the motel several hours a day. There is a hop on - hop off trolley that's convenient and easy to use. Might be less expensive to stay downtown than parking and lot fees on a daily basis etc. Austin is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from San Antonio. If it appealed to you both and was an easy fix, you might choose to drive to SA, spend a couple of days then drive into Austin for a couple of days before picking up your return flight. There are different types of journeys. The Martha's Vineyard Cook Book by King and Wexler gives this recipe used on whaling trips and long sea voyages as published in the Vineyard Gazette in an issue dated August 28, 1857. SEA VOYAGE GINGERBREAD "Sift two pounds of flour into a pan, and cut up in it a pound and a quarter of fresh butter; rub the butter well into the flour and then mix in a pint of West Indian molasses and a pound of best brown sugar. Beat eight eggs until very light. Stir in the eggs two glasses or a gill of brandy; add also to the egg a teacup of ground ginger and a tablespoon of powdered cinnamon, with a teaspoon of soda melted in a little warm water. Wet the flour, etc. with this mixture till it becomes a soft dough. Sprinkle a little flour on your paste board, and with a broad knife spread portions of the mixture thickly and smoothly upon it. The thickness must be equal all through; therefor spread it carefully and evenly, as the dough will be too soft to roll out. Then with the edge of a tumbler dipped in flour, cut it into round cakes. Have ready square pans, slightly buttered; lay the cakes in them sufficiently far apart to prevent their running into each other when baked. Set the pans into a brisk oven and bake the cakes well, seeing that they do not burn. These cakes will keep during a long voyage and are frequently carried to sea. Many persons find highly spiced gingerbread a preventative to seasickness."

I started last Monday (2/9/04) and I've lost 9 pounds already. Haven't weighed myself this week yet. Anyone have recipes or links to share? I like the ricotta cheese dessert too, Ilene. Especially the vanilla one.

Great recipe site, Wanda! New one for me. Yes, please could you post your recipe sites for SBD? I just started on my Phase 2 and love trying new recipes. I'll post a couple of my favorites later today when I get home from work. Maybe we can get this forum a bit more activity!

Sue, here's another one, but you have to download the recipes. She has alot of great one. She is a member on the sbd website at prevention magazine. Its a great site, lots of info and recipes posted daily.

Thanks again, Wanda! Great sites - I've been to the Southbeach Recipe site and have downloaded her recipes to try. And I've also bookmarked the Shake off the Sugar one for perusal at a later time. So many recipes to try - I'm 'hooked' on this way of eating!!

Your welcome! Hope that you enjoy them. I have no problem with this way of eating, it has really grown on me, and its a great diet for dh as he is a diabetic.
I am not saying that occasionally, we don't treat ourselves to something not on the sb way of eating, but then its right back to it the next day.

Thanks for the recipes i have been on it but was off of it this week end we had to go to ARK. my brother in law died and then when we got back we stared over and then today dh is got what every it is going around with a cold and things like that. And he said that his face haret. So when he gets to felling better we will start back on it.
