I really like the lamp! LOVE, LOVE those candle sticks. I passed some like that up in the store the other week because I currently don't have anyplace to put them. Desperately trying to think of one! :)

I like both the drapes. I'm leaning toward the jc penny ones because of the color. I don't think they look too heavy.

I like the lighter color drape.

I can't see the whole room, but I *think* I like the lighter drape because of the lightness of the sofa. From what I can see your sofa is a similar color right? It helps balance the room a bit. With the darker drape and the darker chairs, the room feels heavier on that side with the darker drape. Again, I can't see the room from both directions, only the one side. I like the candlesticks...why do you feel like you need new ones?

I like the lighter color drape, but the honey is nice, too. I think either one would work, frankly.

I'm not crazy about the lamp and candlesticks together: they look too much alike. I'd replace the candlesticks with something that picks up on the colors of the other lamp, over by the chairs?

I realize i'm not much help. I like both. Hard to acurrately judge the colors. What line are the JCP drapes from? I only see one linen blend drape from their American Living Grace line. Is that the one? I am leaning a little toward the one on the left. It gives a monochromatic look and you seem to like that one as well. Can you get a closer picture of the chair and drape together?
I like the lamp! If you think the candlesticks are too much, can you put them on the mantel? I'd like to see them together on one side. A vase can be placed on the opposite side.

I don't like the Penny's drapes at all. I love the RH ones and IMO you don't have to go any lighter but I'm assuming the RH ones are a pretty close match to the walls.

You have the furniture grouping in front of the doors looking great and with the beautiful view, I think all you want is a light and airy 'finishing' to the doors instead of 'statement' drapes.

On second thought, I think I prefer the RH Honey. The JCP drapes are too dark, and the RH Ivory might be too light. But the RH Honey seems just right. And I'm not talkin' porridge here. . . .:)

kmcg85, the penney drapes aren't linen, they are a heavy textured drape, and although nice, I think they do look to heavy, thicker.. wintry. They are the Linden Street. below a closer pic

OS, yes - think that is exactly what the candle sticks should be - more color, picking up the other red/gold lamp.

I like the color at the window. They look nice with your walls and not too matchy matchy for the sofa. I love linen so the RH honey may work. Did you try a bigger rod that goes all the way across the window? A 1 1/2 or two inch rod may be a better balance for your room. LOVE those candle sticks and the lamp, maybe not together. Where did you find the candle sticks?

I agree with many of the others-- the RH curtains are PERFECT. I wouldn't go lighter. I think they really pull the room together and give it the perfect balance.

I also think the candlesticks are too heavy and dark (mood as well as color) with the lamp and with the room. I'd do a big bunch of orange-red alstromeria there. They last a week or more and are pretty inexpensive... and they'll carry that light fresh feeling over from the curtains. :)

funkyart - thank you! My garden, flower ability is shameful! I had to look them up to see them, that would be beautiful!!! I'll have to think on that because I am not sure I would be faithful at changing them out.

Not being one who would ever what to start a controversy about faux vs fresh, but as long as you said you don't have a green thumb...just for kicks and giggles...

Glad to see you back with your pictures and questions. I actually like the darker drapes better.....in the picture they seem to blend with the chairs and floors better, but then the lighter ones match the color of the wall.....so gal, you might have to be the judge of this....seems like opinions are split.
Love the lamp and also the candlesticks...although maybe not together on the same table.
You do such a good job......but it looks like you get to "return" something again....LOL

Another vote here for the lighter Honey linen drapes. I think they tie it all together without making too much of a statement in the room. Beautiful!!

Definitionly RH drapes over the JCP. The quality is much better and I love how they hang. I can't tell frmo the pics you posted if honey or ivory would be better. Please show a picture next to your rug so that the drapes, rug and chairs are all in the same shot. Also, make sure to check them out a different times of day as the feel you will get at night time will be different than during the day and make a choice based on what time of day you are there the most and which one you like the bet at that time.

Wonderful! I ruled out the penney's drapes myself, and even though they look nice in the photo ( and they are nice) it's not as light and airy as teh linen ones which I love. So, keep the honey and Not the Ivory... sounds like what most people think! I amy just order the Ivory anyway (to see) and I think I will use them in our guest room. I like the quality of these RH drapes.

Here is a picture with the Honey hanging. I need a new thicker rod, and the brackets are not positioned correctly, BUT do you think the rod should go all the way across the door or keep them short?

Tinker, there was someone on your last post who wanted you to have a long rod. Don't remember who it was but it was someone whose style I like. Only problem is, I don't see the point of having a long rod if you're just using framing panels. Let's see if she chimes in.

BTW, just curious, what granite did you use in your kitchen? Our color schemes are eerily similar.

Parma, you have a good memory.. I can't recall now who it was, but I kept her suggestion and bought a long rod to try. Hope more people comment on the rod. I also noticed the similarities (probably why I love YOUR house too!LOL) The granite is Madura Gold (sp?).

My new Patio arrived - I need to post pictures of that too - I LOVE it, and I have been waiting almost 5 months for my table chairs and bar stools - they arrive TOMORROW!

I like the drapes from RH and I like the honey color.
I also like the idea of short rods if they are just for end panels.
My daughter uses those in her condo. I will post a photo to let you see but I see I only have a photo showing one side of window.

All the way across the doors, most definitely. Sorry to those who use them, but I always think those short rods look funny, like the curtain is just standing there on its own, topped with a little piece of metal. Maybe I'm just not used to them yet.

I think the RH drapes are very nice for the color, but not full enough for the proportion of the window. I would do the rod all the way across, and buy a second set of panels for each side. Even if you never intend to close them, you want them to LOOK like there is enough drape to close.

I would also change out the rod to something in wood, something to bring all the wood tones in the room up to the wall there. I agree that it needs to be heavier and wider if you are hanging it that high. I might consider one that has a barley twist pole, to compliment the curves in the furniture.

Sorry, not a fan of the lamp.

The longer rod compliments the window and the window trim.
The white trim stands out too much with the shorter rods. I agree with wooderlander, maybe I am not used to them yet. Love the RH honey. Perfect! You have done an interior decorator's job of pulling your room together.

I will be off to WalMart tomorrow. LOL

You current rod doesn't bother me too much. I mean, it's simple and doesn't attract attention. But if you do decide you want a beefier barley twist rod like Les mentioned, I'm pretty sure LNT has them. Can the rod pocket handle something larger?

It's hard to tell what material the curtains are made of, but I like the J.C. Penney's curtain colour best of all. Unless the curtains are shiny, silky or in any other way unsuitable, I think they really provide a nice contrast to the walls and upholstery. The cream curtains are lost on that big doorway and in front of the walls. :(

I agree that the rod should go all the way across the top of the window/door for a more cohesive and polished look.

Another vote for all the way across. Why don't you try doubling up the panels to one side to see how the fullness looks. It also would look nice to see the sliding door trimmed out at some point. I like the candlesticks better than the lamp. What happened to the other ginger jar one you had before?

Les, you don't like the lamp!! boo hoo.... I was so hoping you would say it was perfect. I have a nice beefy rod, but the rod pocket is too small so I would have to clip them on rings... what do you think about that? Also, I actually wanted to move the panels over more away from the edge. We use this door over and over and the panels are in the way and with lots of small visitors - I am afraid they will get dirty. Any suggestions?

kswl, I really do like them too, and I do think they look nice, however, living in the house is different then even the photo's. When I got these and hung them, I immediately felt I blocked the "flow" to the outside. I don't know if that makes sense, but it was a visual thing and DH felt it too. With the lighter ones, the room seems to flow more to the outside.

valinsv, another vote no for the lamp. :( I returned the other ginger jar - I decided be pink flowers in it bugged me.

tinker: In the new Smith and Noble catalogue, they have a photo of curtain panels hung on separate rods on each side of french doors, and it looks very nice. But the rods are still longer than the rods you currently have. I do agree with les that you should probably purchase another set of the RH Honey panels, and I agree with you that the panels should be moved further out--either on one long rod or two short (but still longer than you currently have) rods. :)

Madura Gold, well we almost had another match in our houses.

I had pretty much designed our kitchen and great room after the granite we picked out, Ebb Tide aka New Lapidus Gold only to find out a month before we moved in that our builder's sub only had one slab of it (we needed two). They had the builder keep showing it anyway.
We were pretty ticked.

Long story short, we went to the subs and we picked out Madura Gold. Then I decided not to buy anything from them after they messed around with us like that so went to another place and got a couple of slabs of Golden River which the sub installed with a crack over the dishwasher. Had them yank it out and from out in the garage we heard a crash, boom, bang...they dropped it on the hardwood and it broke in a hundrend chunks. Had to have the floor redone.

Guess it wasn't such a short story but it could have been longer, lol.

Stay away from Smith and Noble. Stay far, far away.

I ordered 6 shades. I paid Smith and Noble to come measure. When the shades arrived, 5 of the 6 were about 1/4 to 1/2 inch too wide for the windows. I asked to return the shades to get my money back. Turns out their "satisfaction guarantee pledge" means that they won't give you your money back, no matter what.

They insist on coming back to re-measure, but a) I can't take time off from work again for this, and b) why would I want to run the risk of further screw ups and hassle?

Their customer service staff come across as Soviet-style bureaucrats. Evidently, Smith and Noble could care less about disappointing their customers and engendering ill will.

I guess my next steps are to file complaints with the BBB and my state's attorney general, as well as dispute the original charge with my credit card company. I'll probably send the shades back to the company's president for good measure.

Keep in mind that Smith and Noble's "partner sites" (i.e. sister companies) include Ballard Designs, Grandin Road, Garnet Hill, TravelSmith, Frontgate, and others. You can rest assured that I won't be giving any of them my business in the future either.
