(My old Singer EU won't run without a COM port, which most new computers don't even have!) If you have a friend with an old PC in their basement you could ask to use it and run the software on a machine that's old enough to be compatible with it. That's what I did with my Singer until I got my Viking machine. You'd have a dedicated "sewing design" computer....See MoreSewing Leather - any tips?
Comments (14)You brought me out of lurkerdom with your questions! First of all, you have a cool machine there. Congrats! My machine (Viking)is electronic and has a leather setting. It set itself for a stitch length of 3mm (8 stitches per inch) and tension at 5 1/2. When sewing leather, use a leather needle, size 90, and a leather or teflon foot. Instead of pinning seams, use a hand held stapler within the seam line. It saves your fingers, and you won't bend a bunch of pins. After the seams are sewn to the final fit, trim them down to 1/4 inch. Don't press, but pound them open and flat. A leather mallet is made for this purpose, but any rubber mallet will do. Glue the seams flat with rubber cement to hold them in place. Alternatively, seams can be topstitched on either side of the seam line. That's probably not applicable in your case, but I wanted to give thorough instructions. Good luck, and have fun!!! Hope this helps....See MoreFollow-up on Thread ...
Comments (4)I have a Janome and I can not use C&C in the top and bobbin. I can't get the tension correct so I use it in the top with no probs and use Connecting Threads in the bobbin. I haven't found it to cause more lint and I do clean my machine when I change the bobbin. My manual doesn't say too much about threads. I bought a big cone of a neutral color from Connecting Threads on sale really cheap that will not fit on the spindle. I read long ago to put it in a cup to the right and I never thought it would work, but it works great!! I use C&C because Wally World carries a good selection of different colors. Last month I needed orange for a charity quilt and I really don't want a huge spool lol!! The thing I forget is what Annie suggested on a post once, lower the stitch count for a better quality seam. Comments (1)A Viking is meant for fashion fabric and household sewing. I don't know what those threads are but I imagine they are meant for industrial machines. I'm not surprised that they bind in a Viking. A visit to a fabric shop might get you something else but I think the strongest thread you could use is buttonhole twist. If you rub a candle or block of parafin over the thread a bit after you sew the seam, you can put a light coat of wax on it. It might help with rot from getting wet, but if you are sewing fabric the thread should last as long as the fabric....See Morezone_8grandma
