My first Basket

Hi all! Here is my first basket...put together for a Valentine's fundraiser for a school. I'll need to do about 50 more by the 13th! Yikes!!! ;) Included is 20 rose petal soaps, an Oatmeal honey almond bar, a rose scent scrunchee soap on a rope, two small hand soaps (a heart w/roses and an angel, some rose scented bath salts in a sachet, and a nice soft washcloth. I plan on redoing the labeling a little and adding white tissue paper in the bottom of the basket as filler (it's empty now!). It's in a nice hard plastic white bath caddy. Any suggestions? Is it okay?

Looks awesome to me!! Did you get a mold specific to doing the bath pouf bars? I used a tupperware container and it didn't come out that great...but good enough for me to use!

Your probably right Marla, the market wouldn't like this the way I started the idea. I'm on one end of a "L" shaped Market(a permanent Market sight), when I need more room for display I bring my own table the I extend on the end. I'll bring my grandson with to handle my main display while I run the "BONUS BASKET" table. I'll have a sign that reads "BONUS BASKETS" "Customers ONLY-Please Line up Here. When There Gone There Gone!!" Somethink like that. If they All sell, Great! If they all don't sell by 4pm, (Market is 3pm-6pm). I'm hoping once the customers caugh on, I'll have a line of customers By 3pm sharp!! At 4pm I'll take the unsold items out of the baskets and display them separately, No more bonus buys. First Come/First Serve!! I don't want to take orders for delivery at the Market, done this before, sometimes the people who order ahead don't show up, even if I set a time. I'm Not interested in any per pay or pre order customers, at least not until early fall, I'm hoping to convert one of my GH's to Hoop House fall production! This will be NEW for me. I do know some about "CSA" but I'm not interested in this at this point. Deb

The first has bloomed now, and I've posted pictures. I'm doing a time lapse video of these growing, so I think I have the light too far away to accommodate the cameras. They are under a 7" humidity dome, and the light is on top. If I didn't have to accommodate the cameras, I'd put the light about an inch or two away from the top of the plant.

Anything that works for peaches should work for nectarines too. You could do a sauce with them for pancakes. Clafouti would be good too. It is kind of like a custard baked around fruit. Last year I made some pickled peaches (like a peach chutney) from a recipe that mazadi posted: African Pickled Peaches via Gourmet magazine 1960s Makes 3 pints or 6 half pints. 4 lb slightly under ripe peaches, blanched, pitted, and sliced 3 cups sliced onions 1/3 olive oil 1 T turmeric 1 T ground coriander 2 tsp minced garlic 2 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp ground ginger (I used fresh minced) 1 tsp crushed dried red pepper Â½ tsp pepper Â½ tsp ground cardamom Â½ tsp dry mustard Â¼ tsp nutmeg Â¼ tsp ground cloves 2 cups white wine vinegar 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup white sugar In large enamel skillet (I used a pot) sautÃ© the onions for 5min or until softened. Add the spices and sautÃ© for 2 minutes. Stir in the vinegar and sugar and simmer the mixture, partially covered for 15 minutes. Add the peaches and simmer till just tender. Transfer the peaches and onions with a slotted spoon to sterilized canning jars. Reduce the syrup over high heat to 1.5 cups and slowly add enough of it to each jar to almost cover the mixture. Stir the mixture in each jar and top up to Â¼ inch headroom. Cap loosely and let the mixture cool. Tighten caps and let stand in a dark place for at least 2 weeks. I decided to take a safer way and so I processed them 10 min in a boiling water bath canner.

Susan- yes...I better get soaping! I hope I can get it dont in time.

Jill- Yes...I broke down and bought the kit at Michael's just to get the form to use. I thought about finding something else to use, but nothing seemed like it would work. This form is great! Just right for the small scrunchees...even better for the new scrunchees with the handle attached to them. (Walmart and target has them) Have ya'll seen those? I like them better, even though they are more expensive.

I want one--it's a gorgeous basket! I keep telling me I absolutely cannot start learning another craft but soap making sure keeps calling to me!!!! Your basket didn't help, but I love it anyway--maybe I could do that some day.

Do others have basket ideas? I just stared lookin over this forum, maybe I'll make some soap!
