In 2 weeks my tubers went from more or less nothing to sprouts ~3" tall. Depending on how deep you've planted them, its not unrealistic that they still haven't broken the surface. I'll vote for you being too impatient. Do remember that any air frost may very well kill any growth above ground. I too am in Ontario and would not be comfortable putting out dahlias that are above the surface until the last week of May, at the earliest, unless I had a way to protect them from the frost. Might want to stick to your bring them back in at night for a while longer. I remember a few years ago we had Zero C on the May 24th weekend. Cheers, Russ

I too had this problem with an expensive Kenmore Elite but I decided not to let it bother me. I fill one powder dispenser and leave it open and make sure I have the Jet Dry department always filled. I never observed a lack of top notch cleaning after that, but I did give it to Habitat for Humanity when I got the top of the line Thermador (made by Bosch). The Thermadors and Bosch's are far better than the Miele's at their price points and they are at least as quiet as the best Miele's, which cost $1K more. Greg

Yeamg, A friend had a similar situation and was able to put in a pool, he was required to dig down till they hit virgn soil(in his case approx 25 ft.) and 5 feet larger than pool dimensions, refill with gravel and compact every 18 inches. Our town required that all of this was done with a soil engineer present(He detemined when they had gone deep enough and approved compacting every 18 inches). This added some significnat costs to the build (backhoe time, soil removal, compacting crew, soil engineers time etc.). Good luck with your project.

I see from the above replies that you've probably received all the assurances and tips about cooking with gas that you need, but I can't help but add my story. We bought a house 7 yrs. ago and were given the option of purchasing the nearly new Dacor dual-fuel range from the previous owners. I had only cooked on Kenmore electric stoves for the previous 25 yrs. We bought the stove, then I proceeded to look at it for nearly a month while I somehow maneuvered to prepare all my meals in the microwave, pressure cooker, or Foreman grill. I was okay using the electric oven, but I was too embarassed to admit to anyone how terrified I was of turning on and cooking with propane gas. I finally fessed up to my sister, who has always had a gas range, and she came over and oversaw me cooking my first stovetop meal. That's all it took - well, that and reading my instruction manual cover to cover. It broke the spell and I have been singing the praises of cooking with gas since. Like many who've replied to this post, I could never go back to cooking on an electric stove. I'm a better cook with gas and it's much more fun to cook on, too. I get a kick out of DH, who has always prepared Sunday brunch. Since he began cooking over flames he has developed the flourish of a TV chef. You'll love it!
