Giving to Charities! (paper train)

While I really do believe in giving to charities I REALLY would like to chose the one I give to, SO would whom ever has my paper train please send it back to me! If you don't have the money for postage email me privately and I will send you enough postage to get it back home to me, I really do miss it, and there are others STILL waiting to recieve it, so let me know. Love Penny

Long time no "see" Sorry to hear about the hold up with your paper...hopefully its just someone caught up in the flurry of Christmas! Hope you get that "train" back on "track" soon. LOL (Can you tell I have been indulging in a wee bit too much nog tonite?LOL

Yes please...that would be wonderful. I have created an indoor type bin this weekend as an example of how to set it up as I only do out door bins using the large free city compost bins..I have 10 going. Working as a tax preparer I'm surprised by the difference (and often indifference) in giving. Here is some idea of the various levels of giving that I see and some traits that are pretty common within that level of giving. I have a number of clients that earn a middle-income and give $3000 or more each year to charity. From my experience those that give the most generously are active church participants though their donations are not limited to church nor is the majority of the donations to a church. Most of their donations are for a minimum of $100 to each individual charity and often to the same charities each year. The next group of donators is executives earning a higher income. Most often their donations are payroll deductions to United Way and vary from $520 to $1040 per year. As you might guess they work for companies that host United Way employee fundraising meeting. Quite often this is the only donation they make. The next group of donators is your average earner. They often have a weekly payroll deduction ($52-$104/year) to the United Way. Often include church donations of around $500 per year. Notable this group of donators while providing smaller dollar donations of $5-$50 is the biggest supporter of the local police, fire company, kids charities, and veterans charities. They may give to different charities each year. Overall their donations usually fall between $200-$700 per year. But the surprise to me is how many people do not give any charitable donations especially those with higher incomes ($100,000+). I was also surprised by how very few clients made donations in support of Katrina. I've noticed while preparing returns this year the amount of charitable donations was less than last year. The higher cost this past year for gas, increased property taxes, and medical expenses was often mentioned. I expect that next year with the requirement that donations require a receipt (or cancelled check for donations of less than $250) will further decrease the amount of donations that are claimed. On a personal note I will say that this year I too have less charitable deductions on my tax return than in previous years. Some of this is because my income was much lower this year. And some of it is because instead of donating to a charity we chose instead to help some friends and family in need. We gave some money to a friend who's husband was injured and could not work for 3 months. It was not alot of money but very appreciated. And last year a client of mine was very ill and out of work. I sent a note and a check to them as I knew they were facing financial problems with the loss of income and medical expenses. We also have a family member facing a serious medical problem and we helped them out. So our tax-deductible donations have been less but our hearts are in the right place.

Remember my little red '90 Dodge Colt, made by Mitsubishi, that I bought about '97 and drove for about seven years: it had a standard tranny and when I drove out almost daily to look after uncle's farm before it was sold that I found that I could coast over 16km. of the 20 km. trip? At something over 200,000 mi. the mechanic told me that I shouldn't drive it any more. I took it to a TV evangelist-related drug rehab "Teen Challenge Farm" nearby and they gave me a receipt for $400. for it. A friend at the investment group was surprised at my story, "What? They gave you a $400.00 receipt for that piece of _____!". They'd given one to him for something not too far over $100.00 for a newer (Ford, I think) that was in better shape, some time earlier, so his nose was rather out of joint over that deal. They signed the portion of my vehicle registration paper that's to be used for transfer, I took the plates off and took them home. A few days later I got a receipt in the mail for the $400.00 ... and had no trouble with it from the income tax people when I claimed it. ole joyful

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! Time's a flying! Jean - no, I didn't win, seems I never do! I'm the "Block of the Month" chairman this year for my guild, so it's up to me to pick a block, make a sample and hand out the instructions. Nina - yeah I know which streets! LOL Sharon - the pattern is by OCaroldesigns (Carol Morrissey). I picked up the pattern half price at Fabric Depot last year. Crafteedee - Not all my charity quilts look like this. I do like to use "panels" a lot because they are so quick. I did this one to practice paper piecing!

It was in GA first and left within three days. I hope it gets back on track soon. I would hate to think that you have LOST 200 sheets of paper. I am pulling for you!

I've also wondered about the train...figured maybe I'm not on the list. If I am, here's an important FYI: Will be away December 24 through the 31st. If it arrives on or after the 23rd (mail isn't delivered until after 4 p.m.), It won't go out again until after January 2, 2001!

What's the paper train?

Penny took 200 of her own personal pages and put it in a package to be mailed around from one scrapper to another. The paper you swap must be acid free/lignin free and it can not duplicate another sheet in the package. I was the first to receive it a LONG time ago, and was able to swap out about 50 pages or so. It is a really good idea but it isn't fair to Penny when someone doesn't pass it along. Penny loses out on 200 sheets of paper. It is lost somewhere in the middle of the 11 person track. I was really hoping this would work because I really liked the idea though I am sure there won't be another one because no one would be willing to risk that much paper.
I hope it finds its way out again.

Just wondering what is happening with the paper train. Is it up and running again? If it is, I'd like to be added to the list. Let me know what the status is. I've been checking back and keeping my eyes open but haven't seen any further updates. It would be a shame if it got stalled at someone's house and never got back to Penny who was so generous to start it with her own supply. She deserves to get the paper back- especially since it was swapped a few times already and I'll bet there's lots of beautiful papers in there she doesn't have!

If the person who has it now is having trouble getting the postage to send it on, I'd be willing to pay for it COD or postage due so there would be no cost to whoever has it now to get it back on track. If that's the case, email me and I'll send you my snail mail address so you can send it COD or postage due.

I could have it swapped out and back in the mail to the next person in a few days.
