Is rush seating difficult to learn?
Comments (2)I cane....and a friend put rush on all her diningroom chairs many years ago.....and I intended to have her teach me....I guess it's not nearly as difficult as caning nor as time consuming. But are you sure rush is what you have? Not split hickory? I have a chair that the rush has been ruined on from kids kneeling on them....It's one of a set of 4 signed Hitchcock... Let me know when you find out more. Linda C...See MoreHow to redo these danish modern teak dining chairs.
Comments (23)Pics of the items. Please excuse various dogs and dog parts in pics. Entry hall/coffee table - 59 1/4" long x 19 1/4" deep/wide x 17" high. Found this info on another website "This Mid-Century Modern teak coffee table was designed by Arne Hovmand Olsen for Mogens Kold.": One of my dogs fascinated by the underneath part of the table. That, or the camera focus light! (Def the latter. I promise. Like a cat that way.) :) Stamp on bottom of above table: Dining table and chairs: Cigar/armchair: Coffee table: Bottom of coffee table - blurry! Haven't found a stamp on the bottom of the dining table but haven't looked very hard or pulled out the leaves. Also haven't looked on chair. Pretty stuff. And to think it is 50-60 years old and was in the house, not just on display somewhere. =) We were careful, however, and learned early on not to eat in the living room, not to put our feet on the furniture, to use coasters, and all those things to keep the furniture in good condition. When my cleaning ladies come in and set their water bottles on the wood I cringe and move them to the floor. As I have thought about this further since my original post, I will probably sell the entry/coffee table with the mosaic and the dining chairs. Next most likely is the armchair, although I'm thinking of using a plum color as an accent in my new house and think that chair would look pretty fun with plum colored cushions. (If anyone is serious about wanting some of the pieces I am in Orange County, California.) Thanks for your comments and interest. Quite a learning experience for me!...See MoreRefinishing wood chairs with rush seats?
Comments (7)Restore a Finish is product that refinishes a stained wood piece without striping. You can buy it with or without colorant. And oh gosh I forgot to mention, like camlan did, that the rush seats probably are removable. Mine were on my island chairs. I just popped them off before I repainted the chairs. This time I stained the rush seats themselves and painted the chairs. (I bought the chairs painted for those of you that know me well enough to be shocked that I painted good wood). I too have heard of the remedy that bliegh mentioned, but thought it was for water marks. I doubt it could hurt to try. It is a white mark. Comments (12)Not sure if that is really spam - it would have been on the old GW, but Houzz seems to encourage companies to promote themselves here. I have a Pro Houzz account at work (for another furniture company), and Houzz keeps trying to get me to promote the company even more. I have not really checked to see what their policies are, as I joined Houzz at work mainly to do research to see what other furniture companies were doing and to compare various existing designs - not to promote the company where I work. The company I work for is not in your price range, but I would recommend going to estate sales and find some vintage mid-century furniture. That's how I got my dining set, but it only seats six. For sturdiness, a trestle style table works very well, but they usually do not have extensions. I used to have a table like this in my dining room, and I especially liked it because it was so sturdy and so I liked using it as a sewing table because it had absolutely no wobble. It was also great for laying out fabric for cutting patterns. It was easy to disassemble, and I have it stored flat on an upper shelf in my garage at the moment - I just couldn't get rid of it!...See Morejcasola5
