Miele, no question - however Home Depot doesn't carry it. If you are stuck to staying with Home Depot, well you eliminate Miele and the other top rated brands so your options are limited

Bosch - I love my Bosch.

We love our Miele. We have had ours for 3 years now (reused it in the remodel) and have not had any issues. The cutlery tray is extremely handy. Our silverware drawer is next to the dishwasher which allows us to just transfer the silverware over to the drawer. Expo(Home Depot) does carry Miele in their Expo stores...(not sure if that helps or not)

Miele, hands down. The guy who installed mine said he never gets service calls on Miele appliances. I have the Miele Optima.

I love my KA dishwasher - cleans and dries well and is very quiet and not nearly as expensive as a Miele. My top of the line KA was a little less than your GE Profile - but that was 5 years ago.

Like weissman, I love my KA. I got the basic one (KUDK03IT) -- but it has every function I need, it's quiet and it cleans and dries really, really well. You could easily get one of the higher end KA's for under 2K at Home Depot. Good luck!

Love my Bosch. Every dish is clean, and because it drives using evaporation/condensation, it does a super job on plastics. We have very hard water here, and I've always suffered with spots on dishes, but not with this dw. It's amazingly quiet...

I think if you're looking for something similar to your GE, the KitchenAid is your best bet. It gets great reviews here. A European DW, like the Bosch or Miele, is a good choice too, but it will work somewhat differently than a GE or KA.

we have two pretty high end kitchens, and after talking to service techs, doing internet research, and looking at features we purchased KA for both houses. the very top of the line for our kitchen, and one step down for the rental. the only thing we don't like is on the rental. you have to be careful not to put large items up front by the soap dispenser because they block it from opening.

this hasn't been an issue on the highest one (we haven't used it but checked with a friend who has one.

I love my Thermador (made by Bosch), and I think I'll love it even more when it's back up and running again...but you won't find it at HD. The salespeople at the local high end appliance store pushed a KA selling for about $900, which may be more easily found at HD.

I would get (in order of preference):
1. Miele (We have 2 Excellas--best we've ever used.)
2. Bosch (No personal experience, but seems to be the next best thing to Miele.)
3. KitchenAid (We've had it, and it's very good, but Miele is better.)

personally had horrible luck with Bosch... our kenmore that we replaced it with was better but noisier. in the new kitchen we went with the Miele but almost opted for the Kitchen Aid with the cutlery tray on top. If Kitchen Aid is available to you, I would choose that over Bosch, but again that is because of a terrible experience.

I have 2 ASKOs and I love both of them. I had a GE Profile that was the worst dishwasher I ever owned, no actually the Kitchen Aid that it replaced (its top control panel shorted out after only 2 years) was the worst the GE was a very close 2nd

Another vote for KitchenAid. I also had a GE that was the worst dishwasher I ever had. Every other one has been a KA and I've been very happy with them. The new ones are really quiet!

Thank you all SO much for the info/advice! I am investigating all of the options mentioned. It would be helpful if you would give the model # that you have, if you have had good luck with your dishwasher.

I have always heard good things about KitchenAid, but I am open to consider what is BEST.

Miele. It's been in for 3 years and it cleans everything, even the Geo. Foreman Grill parts, and very crusty broiler pans. Very quiet, and the adjustable shelves make room for everything even longer stemed wine glasses. Over the years we've had 4 or 5 different diswashers. This one is the best.

Bosch without question.

Ours is three plus years young and does a fantastic job. And it's really quiet!!

Another vote for KitchenAid. We have the KUDKO3CTSS and I love it. The dishes come out so clean and dry. Best dishwasher I've ever had. IT was origianally $799. We got it for $580 at PC Richards.

One more thing.....
The one thing that our GE Profile dishwasher has that I really like - is that you can fill the soap dispenser with about a half a bottle of liquid dishwasher soap, and then it automatically dispenses the right amount each load. In other words, you don't have to put soap in for each load.

Do any of those that you all have talked about on here have that feature? (I can't remember exactly what they call this feature)

Another vote for KitchenAid, this is my fourth diswasher in six months, replaced a perfectly good working older maytag with a high end Kenmore which seized up half way through the first load, then had a higher end Kenmore with controls that were so sensitive when you walked by it it would shut off, turn on or reset, depending on where it was in a cycle.

Our most recent one is KitchenAid model #KUDT03STBL. It has a countdown cycle timer which I like and works really well doing full loads with even the light/china and dry cycle. The controls are along the top and do not turn on by accident when someone brushes against the dishwasher.

If you had told me a year ago that the best thing about my new kitchen would be the DW, I wouldn't have believed you...nor would I believe that I would be spending over $1000... But, my Asko, which is one of the lower end Askos, is a tall tub stainless steel interior that is so quiet, I forget it's on, dishes are so sparkling clean, that I still get thrilled emptying the glasses and looking at them, loads so well, that we run out of dishes before we have to turn it on, Love the double cup racks and stem holders, just so darn well-designed, supposedly has a sensor to turn off water if there's a leak (big important feature for me, as I am a little bit water leak paranoid), has the best manufacturer's warranty in the industry- which says something for the reliability! And it looks neat and sleek, no exterior handles.

Have to say I'd love to hear more about why Home Depot is replacing your appliances for you...:>)

i'm installing two mieles. i had a bosch in the last house and it cleaned well except nothing would dry. had two friends who had the same experience.

Still with Bosch... but not sure if it the top dog. Replaced the Asko, it was a bottom dog. The dealer dropped the line as they don't lend themselves to servicing.

Of the models that Home Depot carries, the top of the line LG with the steam wash and LED interior lighting would be my choice. It's extremely quiet, washes well, and you can do a top rack only wash if you want to.

The only other brands carried by HD are GE, and JennAir/Maytag/Amana. None of the fancier brands can be found at a HD. Maybe if you have an Expo in your area, you could look there, but honestly, I've NEVER had any issues with my GE Profile DW, and it's what my whole family has also. No problems. Every brand has a lemon or two occasionally.

Another KA vote. However, I feel it is only fair to let you know I have only had it 3 weeks. Replaced a 10 year old GE. The KA has the nicest racks, cleans great and is very quiet. I love it.

Another vote for KA. I am on my 2nd KA. Just replaced a 10 yr old that was working fine for a new color during our remodel. My new one is the KUDW03CTBL from Lowe's. I love it. It has more features than my old one. I especially love the proscrub for extremely soiled items like baked on casseroles and crock pots. I almost went with the Bosch, but changed my mind at the last minute due to not having a drying element. My KA dishes come out hot and dry everytime. Also my specs say that my KA dishwasher only cost $29 a yr to run with a gas water heater running 4 loads a wk. Hope this helps.

Regarding why HD is replacing the dishwasher and stove top:

Probably because most of our kitchen remodel was done through them. We used them as our GC, ordered all of our cabinets, granite fixtures, appliances, etc through them. Our Project Coordinator truly has been "on our team" since the beginning. She came over and inspected the dishwasher and stove top - listened to me, verified the complaints were legit, and took the results to her Manager. She has a GE Profile dw in her home, and hers is a lesser model, and her dishes come clean. With that, she understands that a dishwasher NOT washing the dishes properly isn't something that someone is just being picky about. I am not certain, but I believe they spoke with GE on my behalf as well.

I guess replacing a few appliances is pretty insignificant for them when you consider the overall picture - including giving them quite a bit of business in a down economy/construction market. Not sure... just guessing that they considered that.

They haven't been "perfect" throughout the entire kitchen remodel - but darn sure close. On a scale of 1-10 in my overall satisfaction with them, I'd give them an 8.5.
