Are zero radius sinks really that hard to clean?

I keep reading that the zero radius corners are hard to keep clean. Can anyone elaborate?

Also, will we regret getting a 30" sink instead of a 36" We went a tad smaller to allow for a couple of the base cabinets to be larger.

They aren't bad at all. And a 30" (single?) sink is still a pretty generously sized sink.

Artemis, from my research on wall mounted faucets, most are available with an 11" spout. Did you try looking on the manufacturer's website? That is how I found the faucets I am going to use, even though in online shoppes I only saw them in the 8" spout. Good luck! There are definitely not enough peeps on GW doing wall mounted faucets IMHO ;)

I am just learning too.. but from what I understand zero radius means 90 degree angles in each corner so the bottom of the sink is perfectly flat (vs. slightly angled towards the drain). So i am a little concerned that water or dirt will sit or in the corners vs with a "low radius corner " (thanks alwaysfixin!) it may be easier to keep clean and dry. Jabelone - in answer to your question, yes, you can find sinks that are not Zero radius, but still have a small radius so that you get the modern square look, but with just a slight roundness to eliminate the cleaning issue; look for anywhere from 5 mm to 25 mm corners--still a pretty square corner, just not zero. Here are a few: Kraus 16-gauge sink with 19 mm corners Gorgeous Ticor Apron Front Stainless Steel 16-gauge sink - they use the term "tight radius" Elkay Avado 16-gauge 15 mm radius corners (they make several, look for the letters EFRU in model number) Elkay Gourmet Elumina sink with more rounded corners of 57 mm, and with corner drain

this has a been addressed a few times even recently. some people say they are hard to clean, and some of us just don't understand whats so hard about it. i love mine and so do others here. do a search for zero radius sink and it will come up.

Mine isn't HARD to clean but it looks like it needs to be cleaned a lot more often than any other sink I've had in the past.

First couple of years were fine (I think the factory coatings helped a lot). But now, as they have gotten older, it seems like we just dump something into the sink and black gunk stays in the corners and creases. I feel like I pick up the sink brush every time I pass one of the sinks to give the corners a once-over.

Brushing out the corners or using a scrubbie in the corners isn't HARD but I'd rather not have my sink looking like it needs to be scrubbed out just because the corners are collecting gunk. Flushing the toilet after my son forgets to isn't HARD but there are things I'd rather not see. Since we have 2 zero radius sinks, I have 8 corners, 8 sides seams and 8 bottom seams that all need "extra" attention.

I loved my sinks at first. But time has changed my mind. And each year I regret the choice more than the year before. Our sinks have been installed since 2005. When choosing a sink, I decided only to listen to what I wanted to hear. I ignored the sound advice from a professional chef who said that zero radius sinks are not approved for commercial applications because of the likelihood of harboring bacteria.

This is just about the only complaint I have with our renovated kitchen. Maybe others don't have this problem but my problem is very real and visible. There are some sinks that are very close to zero radius but not quite as extreme which is what I would choose if I could do it over again.

zelmar, can you try treating your sink with Sheila Shine? I wonder if the coating it leaves behind will help you with this issue. It's what I use(d) on all my stainless appliances. Just a thought. Even if you only want to use it in the corners, maybe apply with a Q-tip?

So if zero radius is difficult what's the best option, positive or negative reveal... Or, wait-- is that what we're even discussing here? lol Sorry!

It sounds very much like we need at least a small radius on our sink. We are not the neatest people and I am certain our corners would get gunky.

Zelmar let me know how the Sheila Shine stuff works for you. Bee - is it like a permanent coating type thing?

I want:
apron front
30"
stainless steel
17" (or greater) front to back
radius or some size
$400-500 or less including the grid for the bottom
would like a curved front but flat is fine too.

I can find 33" and 36" sinks that fit my criteria but no 30" sinks! Gah!

The others of our 0-radius Julien sink rarely collect gunk in the corners. When I wipe down or scrub the sink (sometimes every day, sometimes every couple of days), I will smoosh the scrub sponge into the corners, but I certainly don't make a point of cleaning the corners more often, nor do they ever really look like they are in need of a scrubbing. Once in a great while I will jab a cotton swab into the corners. A little bit of gunk might be on the tip of the swab, if at all, but that's about it.

I just looked up expressdecor.com That is where I ordered mine from about 2 years ago.It is holding up pretty good. Mine is not a farmhouse sink. I chatted with them and had it delivered to Canada by USPS which saved me a bit of money. It took about 2 1/2 weeks to come (sometimes things get held up at the border) I looked up a cupon code for them just now and it said to use KRAUS10 at the checkout and you will save an extra 10%. The farmhouse sink is $429.95 plus the 10% off. Oh... I was pleased with the packing with mine. Packed tighter than a drum. I was worried about it getting dammaged during shipping. Good luck. Take a look at this lovely SS apron front. It looks like it fits your needs/wants!

I'v ordered from Signature Hardware and their products are superb. My sinks came individually crated and wrapped in their own bags, much like expensive shoes.
