Should I get a drop-in or under-mount sink
Comments (10)I was thinking about getting the Kohler Tresham drop in sink. It has a raised rim so I was thinking less water would get on the counter. I also liked that it already has the faucet holes in it so we wouldn't have to have the holes cut out. The bathtub and toilet are Kohler almond color so the sink would also be almond color. I like the look of the under-mount better and can get an almond in it. Thank you for your thoughts on this....See MoreUndermount vs drop in tub
Comments (4)An undermount is much easier to sit on the ledge and swivel around to get in the tub. When you're naked, (or even if you're not!) it's just not that comfortable to sit on a ledge with a ridge in it that cuts into your legs or backside. Grab bars can be placed on the wall to the side of the tub entry at any point if you install the blocking needed in the walls before they are closed up. Be sure to place the Roman tub faucet on the deck appropriately to give you the room you need to enter and exit and still be able to reach it from the exterior. And be sure and get the option with the hand held sprayer to be able to actually clean the tub! It can work for rinsing shampoo out of the kids hair too, if you let them use your tub....See MoreUndermount sinks vs. drop in...? about cleaning
Comments (3)It may well depend on how your countertop and sink come together. Some are installed such that the edge of the countertop is flush with the sides of the sink, often leaving you with a vertical face on your caulk and typically a wider caulk line. Some are installed such that the countertop sits back a half-inch or more from the side of the sink, leaving you with a caulk line that connects a vertical surface (the edge of the countetop) with a horizontal surface (the top rim of the sink) and the caulk line is sometimes thinner. I've never found that keeping the caulk line clean has been a problem with either type of installation but it also may depend on the caulk that's used....See MoreDebating drop-in vs undermount Blanco..
Comments (23)I'm reading all of these, I promise! We just got back out electrical and plumbing overages so those will be coming out of pocket. I looked at the Ikea sink but I want something huge with one bowl, their single bowl is only 24". I really do prefer the farm sink though, Joe, so I might keep looking for those! What the showroom might be referencing is from the white Blanco sinks from like 2007. They were made differently and some food stain. They changed their process and ( according to GW) they haven't had issues since then. As far as finishes, counters are Alabama White marble, similar in looks/hardness to Imperial Danby. White inset shaker with ogee framing bead, some fancy toekicks by the range and sink, potentially beadboard BS (I may add a hint of color there, if so it would be a pale blue).. Faucet I have as Danze Opulence ( I'll find a picture), it has to stay around the $350 budget.. Let's see... Glass doors on some uppers, but none near the sink as that wall is just windows.. What if I did undermount then did this.. With the three areas routed out? Overall feel is vintagey-ish.....See Moreliljenfers
