Please don't treat me so harshly :) I am a newcomer to this and today I am planning on buying me a starter kit to making a scrapbook. It's my first project and quite honestly I am so scared :) I have seen so many sites and wonderful creativity from everyone. I am so afraid that my scrapbook will look so plain and dull eventhough adding a few glittery stickers here and then won't help (just a joke :)) I would love to hear any advice on how everyone started making scrapbooks. And if there is any magazines where I can subscribe too, please let me know. Different types of cutting scissors to different sites you all use. I would love to make my pictures memorable, because the old albums ( I mean traditional) are so boring :) Thank you for patience and time.

Goodness I would hate to think someone from here would give you a hard time just because you are a newcomer! Welcome and dive right in! My first suggestion it for you to check out the posts on here, and then go to the link at the bottom of this page and it has HUNDREDS of links at that site where you an view TONS of finished layouts. (layouts is the term used to describe a finished page,) Gracefulbee.com has a lot of helpful, and easy to understand directions and you can get to it from the link I'm including. IF there are classes available in your area (scrapbook stores usualy offer them) then take one. It will give you the basics and help you learn which tools you REALLY like to use and which you could live without. This craft can get expensive quickly so go SLOW! Feel free to ask anything here that you need to know and some of us will try and help you. There are many magazines now becoming available, including Creating Keepsakes, Memory Makers, Better Homes and Garden is even putting out one, if you live in a small town then check local drug stores or large grocery stores or super stores for magazines and sometimes products. C, Such lovely plants! And the last Gasteria looks so good, as do the others. A. v.-r. is not A. f.-r. - they're two different species, and while A. v.-r. doesn't pup as often as the other, it's known to happen. I think it points to someone's plant prowess, but don't let that swell you too much, eh?

Creeping Charlie - a newcomer to our lawn and beds

While Boron is an essential micro nutrient a little too much causes plants to die so spraying Borax mixtures to control Creeping Charlie has not been something knowledgeable people have advocated for about 25 years now. Creeping Charlie, "Glechoma hederacea", spreads through seeds, rhizomes (roots), and bits of plants and although the best method of control is pulling the seedlings most people don't se them until they are much bigger and more difficult to pull. This stuff can never be pulled too early. Although it has adapted to many soil conditions Creeping Charlie does most bestest in moist, shady soils with a lower pH then most of the desirable plants like, so a soil test can be of some help in control when the soil is corrected. It's going right through the hosta, looks really nice and I should not separate them. I have more than one Lemon Lime, so I will give it a try together. This year little trees are jumping out like crazy, had really a lot of rain, maybe that's the reason. My hosta friend has hundreds in his garden from his three different japanese maples. I would pick more, but have no good places for a tree anymore:-(

I was surprised that I sunburned leaves of a second new "Orfeo" from RVR early July in a black plastic pot on my patio, after I treated an identical first one exactly the same way in mid May and it did great. I had thought the leaves looked tough enough. Obviously this was really stupid in retrospect because July was not the same as May. Both plants had some foliage to start, and the first one put out great new growth and gorgeous blooms by 6 weeks. The second, after the sad sunburn only put out smaller new leaves. Now, 2 weeks after being put in the ground, it is exploding into new growth with buds. The first one also in the ground longer, is just sitting there probably growing roots I hope. The biggest surprise to me is that the plants coped fine either way with the sad sunburn of the second seeming not to have affected it, although I learned my lesson. They both will have had one big flush of blooms and hopefully will winter over OK and be good to go next summer. Plants can cope apparently with my mistakes, sometimes. I know this is a hot climate beginner mistake. My ARE roses never had trouble, whatever, they are strong. I never got any in July however.

Welcome to a new, rewarding and expensive addiction! In addition to Penny's comments, I would suggest you to start slow. The class is an excellent recommendation as well as the magazines and websites. Pick out one SMALL project and work on it. Try not to get overwhelmed by all of the choices and all of your photos. Once you have completed the project, then you can add a little each time. If you are near a local scrapbook shop, then sign up for some of their "come and crop" times. These are not classes but just blocks of time when people can bring their stuff and work on projects. It is a great place for seeing what is out there, experiment with tools (the shop usually lets you use punches, scissors, cutters, etc.) and if you don't have alot of supplies, you can purchase what you need to make a page complete while you are there. Welcome to the addiction!! I ditto the suggestions from Penny and Rebecca. I started out by taking 1 class at a scrapbook store, you bring 5-10 pictures with you and they help you cordinate the paper & embelishments and show you some of the tools and how to use them. The main thing is to get organized, start slow and have fun. Also, questions is what this forum is all about, we all have each other to help with our questions and post our ideas. Welcome! When I first started scrapbooking, I was scared also. I was so nervous about cutting my pictures and I was so afraid that I would do a layout "the wrong way" But I soon found out that there really is no wrong way you do a page as creative or as simple as you want. It is such a fun hobby but once you get into to it becomes very addictive. The advice above is great and I agree with just taking it slow and do let it overwhelm you. Also do not be afraid to ask questions esp. on this board. Everyone is extremely helpful and full of ideas.

Welcome and I second all of the great comments given here by the ladies.
I would like to just say that you don't have to do all of your pictures just pick through and do your favorite ones or the best taken ones don't overwelm yourself with trying to do it all. I still to this day just do a layout when I see paper or something that reminds me of a picture I have. I started 3 years ago and I was what I liked to call myself as a "self taught lone scrapper" till Dec of this past year when we got the computer for xmas I coulnd't believe all the sites on here and all the different techniques. I don't know where you live but i live in SouthWestern Ontario and my only sourse for supplies is Micheals and that is over and hour away and I don't drive so it sure does make doing this hobby hard but I am determined to get all of my sons pictures done for him one of these days. I WILL NOT QUIT!!!!
