Tips?

It's been a while since we listed our favorite scrapbooking tips, and some of them might have changed, so let's do it again.
One of my favorite tips is to use your old magnetic photos albums to store your stickers in. If the back of the sticker page sticks to the page it is not a problem since you don't use that part. As for the acid content, well I use my stickers up pretty fast so I am not worried too much about that, plus I have never put a sticker directly on a photo. Penny

My favorite tip is to carry a Ph testing pen in my purse. Then I can test any paper before I buy. Just because it doesn't have "acid-free" on it, doesn't mean that it isn't.

I actually have two tips. I also pick 2 brochures of everything I want (places we visit, etc.) that way I don't have to choose one side or another if there are 2 usuable pieces of supporting documents. I also use the Ph pen here to make sure they are usable.

I have 2 main tips:
1. At my library, I checked out teacher pattern books, bulletin board starter books and felt board pattern books. They have great patterns that can be used for paper piecing and just die cuts. The bulletin boards books I used had some great ideas for borders. I just photo copy onto colored paper or trace onto white and go from there. I also use coloring books esp. the ones geared for toddlers because the pictures are bigger and the details are simple.
2. As for as organizing my photos and stuff, I date and label as soon as I get my pictures. Then I label a file folder such as 4th of July and I put the pictures relating to that topic in that folder. As I come across paper, stickers, die-cuts I want to use I just put them in that particular folder till I am ready to assemble that page.

Yes to the tp/paper towel rolls! I did that with some of the springsown seeds that were supposed to be picky about being transplanted and it worked wonderfully! I plan to do that will all of my wintersown seeds this year--makes it incredibly easy to plant! And if you have a drill-driven bulb auger, it's just about the right size to make the holes, even! I'm zone 5 so don't have the same temp issues you have but it seems any perennials that work well in your area for your zone are good candidates. I do a LOT of penstemons and agastaches--they all do very well and I know there are plenty that work for your zone. I don't even try any vegetables here wintersown, just doesn't work for me. Herbs work pretty well, though. Chives are pretty hard to kill with late freezes! Good luck!

What a thoughtful gift! I'm sure he'll be very happy in your garden just because he's loved. I think either way you grow him will give you good bloom. I've found that with my DAs as long as I don't try to train them upward they bloom well. I plant all my dahlias in pots but for me that's because I have to dig and store them for winter and the pots make that much easier. Mine rarely get very tall here, maybe 3 feet tops, but in your climate that might be different. I think how ever you plant them you'll need to be prepared to stake them.

I belive all those little "eyes" can grow new branches if left after the top breaks, so you might get 3 or four branches coming out below the break. Just be carefully not to touch any fragile new buds. ( also, I'm not a pro, my plants are now 4 days in my care, but with no suicides yet.)

I think the prices sound pretty good. I am in the DMV though and things are more expensive here and I imagine the LA burbs are comparable if not a little pricier. Having said that most parties I have or attend are fairly casual with the occasional work associated or wedding that is more high end. I have never seen a tip jar at any catered party I have attended. At open bar weddings I do normally tip. Last wedding we attended at the beginning of the evening I tipped each of the two bartenders 20 dollars each. It probably covered the cost of my & DH's drinks by far. They didn't have a jar out. I have been at parties at a home or at a "country" club where there was a sign that said, No tips, you are here as our guests. I would presume in that case the party hosts had taken care of the servers. I don't know what is proper etiquette as far as that type of sign. I don't know about tipping the owner but I probably would. I have the same dilemma with my hairstylist who owns the salon. I tip her and give her gifts for holiday's and her birthday. I personally would give the bartender 50 dollars and the owner 100 with the request he share it with anyone who helped prep the food or did set up and clean up if they had additional help. I understand you don't know if he will but that is on him and how he sleeps at night.

i guess my favorite is i have 2 of those big accordian style clear vinyl files and i have all my papers sorted and stored in there one case is for solid colors and sorted by color family and style (ie blues is for all shades of blue cardstock) i also keep the velvet papers, vellums,metallic and slick papers sorted in the same one but they are by velvet, vellum etc instead of color and these have tabs at the top so that you can label em and get what you want in an instant instead of looking thru what seems like a ton of paper the other file is for printed and holiday papers.
