When do you start Christmas decorating?
Comments (20)Welcome, Nancy! I'm glad to hear that we've lured another one out of Lurkdom. At the moment, I'm feeling woefully behind (once again!) with my holiday decorating. I'm just now putting up my Autumn & Thanksgiving decs. I'll take them down the day after Thanksgiving, which is when I decorate big time for Christmas. It takes many days to get it all up, as I put of 5 trees of various sizes and decorate every room but our master bedroom & bath (our dobie gets into them there, so I've stopped). And, like Lynnencfan, I tweak them continually after that ;^D I leave mine up until the day after Twelfth Night, January 6th. For us, that's the last day of Christmas. Comments (62)The holidays are a little bit of a sad time for me. I love decorating the house, listening to the same old carols over and over again, buying gifts that I think people will want. Then it all is a little disappointing since my DH isn;t interested in the decorations, doesn't like the carols and doesn't want me to spend much money on things he can pick out for himself. In addition, my DIL is Jewish and although they come for Christmas Eve and we all spend Christmas Day with some cousins, it isn't "their holiday". My son has adopted her faith and that hurts me more than anything else. I'm pretty much alone as far as being the only Christian in my family even though DH has started going to church with me. Now that we have a grandson, I would so love to share all the traditions with him that we did with our son but I can't. When he came over today, he noticed that I had changed the wreath on the front door from the fall one to the Christmas one. He said, "What did you do, Nana? It's so pretty." (he's only 29 months but very aware of things like that) I told him I took down the fall things and am putting up the winter things. I have started decorating inside but haven't put up the tree. Not quite sure how I will approach that subject. This will be the first year that I know he will ask alot of questions. Last year he wanted to touch the ornaments and would look at the lights but that was about all. I gues all in all, I end up feeling a little disappointed as each year I hope it will be better. I truly am grateful for all that I have and I don't have a real reason to feel neglected. Trailrunner - I hope you get back with us. Will post pictures when done decorating....See MoreOutdoor Urns---How Do You Decorate for Christmas
Comments (15)Mitchdesj - your urns look wonderful! I have a wrought iron planter on the front porch that I am going to try a similar look - thanks for the idea. Also, kind of an upgrade on the tomato cage and topiary form suggestion, I clipped pics from an old cottage living - actually two different issues where the editor decorated her urns - one for fall, one for Christmas. She used the grapevine trees - the tall (3 ft.) slim ones. They sit in the urns and I am thinking both pics had magnolia leaves around the base of the tree. The Christmas pic she had some more greenery added in around the tree and a few ornaments. The fall one had ivy along with the magnolia leaves and small pumpkins/gourds placed in the urn also. Both look great. I like the topiary forms and we use tomato cages ourselves (upside down) in warmer months for some of our vines. But with nothing growing on them and during the daytime when not lit, they look a bit sparse. On the grapevine trees, you can also use lights. I was actually able to find the trees prelit. tina...See MoreChristmas decorating....what all do you do?
Comments (13)I love decorating for Christmas! I have 2 trees, one in the living room and 1 in the family room. The one in the living room is the one we put the gifts under. It is a big tree, fairly high from the floor so lots of room under it. It's pre-lit with clear lights. I put my fancier ornaments on it. I put 2 live poinsettias on either side of the fireplace. I display my Willow Tree nativity on the large square coffee table. On the end tables I have several snow globes. The fireplace mantle has candles, some greenery and 2 metal twig reindeer as well as a framed photo of my brothes & sisters and me when we were small. In the window I have lighted candoliers. In the family room I have a skinny tree, it fits in the corner. That is pre-lit with coloured lights. On that tree I put all of my fun ornaments....santas, snowmen and cartoon characters like Charlie Brown, the Grinch, etc. On the coffee table I have candles, a cross stitched runner that my sister made me, an animated figurine of a family decorating the tree and a wrought iron bowl holding christmas balls. On the book case and end tables I have other little decorations like snow globes, snowmen, etc. On the 2 french doors that lead to the patio I have snowflake window clings. Outside I don't have a lot. I can only do so much (and Joe is in a wheelchair), so I only put a string of lights and garland around the front door. There is also a wreath on the front door and two 3 1/3 foot lit trees on either side of the door. They're lit with clear lights. On my dining room table I have an arrangement of greenery that is also a candle holder. In the window are candoliers. Also candoliers in the kitchen window, a Christmas floor mat in the kitchen, a cute reindeer basket holding nuts on the kitchen table and on the island a basket of fake apples and greenery. I may take some pictures in the next couple of days and share with you....See Moremariaocean
