RE: Cost of tearing out backsplash tile

Thanks so much for all of your input! I love this site and have been so inspired by all of your gorgeous kitchens! I realize that I wasn't clear enough in my original posting. I am planning on retiling the backsplash on my own, especially since I'm leaning towards subway. The part that I'm most concerned with is removing the drywall that my current backsplash is on (I've tried removing a tile and pretty much all of the drywall came out with it) and replacing it with new drywall or backerboard. I'd probably have to hire this part out. I fear that I made my DH sound worse than he is. He just doesn't understand why I'm unhappy after we just spent so much on my beautiful countertops - he doesn't see what I see! I'm a stay-at-home mom with 4 kids so we are on a pretty strict budget. I just want it done right since I'm the one staring at it all day everyday!!! Thanks so much for your help!!!
