Oil Question
Comments (26)"Star: Seafoam or any Oil Conditioner Cleaner will not harm your engine if used in moderation . Even small amount of transmission fluid will clean up valve carbon issues or sticking rings. Normally only req'd on older engines" SeaFoam is a good cleaner for old engines that have been neglected, but so is plain naphtha. If you desire to spend your money on overpriced chemical cleaners, then have at it. If you use a good quality synthetic in the engine and change it on a regular basis then you donÂt have to worry about using an engine cleaner. Using SeaFoam in the oil for "normal" use is foolish. Walmart shelves are burdened with many oil additives and all of them are snakeoil....See MoreQuestion for today 4/2
Comments (16)Mechanical. I have my trusty 45-46 yo Singer, a cheapy White that I've hardy use because I can't get it threaded properly and the manual is hopeless (blurry print, parts crossed out and overwritten in pen), and just yesterday I bought a Singer Esteem 1732. Factory rep was at Hancock's for one day and it seemed like a good deal. It's supposed to sew much thicker pieces than w/ my other, automatic tension adjustment and self-threader and has a serger foot. I read mixed reviews about it (after I bought it)--some said it was great, other that it was terrible, mainly because of tension adjustment problems. I will see when mine arrives next week. I was considering getting a good quality computerized one in a year or two but that's out now. I spent the money on an elliptical exerciser....See MoreExtention table for Vintage Singer 15-91?
Comments (3)Hi Elizabeth and welcome to the forum! As a professional sewer I'm sure you have lots to share with us as well! I have almost exactly that same Singer, inherited from my mother, but I have to admit it's not one of the machines I use very often. It should fit in any of the wooden sewing table cabinets that were so widely used in the mid-century. I see them in vintage shops pretty often; I'm always searching for one of the folding tables with the insert for a Singer Featherweight but haven't found one yet. But I think you're on the right track with the universal sewing table extensions. Those should be adjustable enough to fit nicely around your machine. If you are adventurous, you could cut into an existing table and set the machine down in it. There are instructions for that process floating around the internet.
