I'd like to try container gardening this but I'm new and have questions, I plan to start the seeds indoors and then transplant. Some seeds, in some areas will grow better plants if started indoors, others will do best being planted outside when the weather is good. I'm assuming I'll need a location that gets atleast 6 hrs of full sun per day for growing? Almost all fruiting and veggie producing plants do best with full sun, so yes. 6 hours of direct sun or more for best results. Many can do acceptably with less, but best results are with 6 or more hours of full sun. Also a few more questions.. Any suggestions on types of containers? Not really. I, personally, would not use a container with less than 6" of depth to it for fruits and veggies. I also would not use a small container (less than 12" rim diameter) because a plant grown for produce will produce less if the medium it is growing in is ever allowed to go completely dry. The larger the container, the less frequent the watering interval and the larger margin of safety. If you will be using automated irrigation such as drip irrigation on a timer then container size is not as important, but if you will be hand watering then it is important the container is large enough and the growing mix water retentive enough to hold ample moisture in between your watering. Where to buy seeds for planting spinach, tomato, squash, strawberries and green beans Many, many great sources. Your local big box store will have many varieties for less cost than mail order seed houses. Trouble is they don't necessarily have them when you need them and they don't often have 50 varieties of tomato the way a seed catalog will. Seed catalogs I like include Johnnys, Burpee, Pinetree, Stokes, and Territorial. These are all large seed houses, there are many, many more smaller operations I also like. How do I know when to start the seeds indoors and then when to transplant? This is difficult without local knowledge. I suggest you google on your state name followed by 'extension service' and see what turns up. Every state has an extension service that will offer tips for home gardening in one's area. Hi Colleen, First, congratulations on your new home, that's very exciting. A moon garden is not just night blooming plants, it is a garden of white plants and flowers that glow in the moonlight. I think your container idea is great. It will look lovely on your new porch. As for transplanting it when you move, that's your call. It depends on what plants, etc. if they will transplant well. See how you like it in the container and then go from there. If you have perennials in it you can transplant then in the fall if you want. I would transplant early enough to give them a chance to take before the weather turns cold. Go through old post here and you will find lots of plant ideas. Also, at BHG.com there is a moon garden plan. It suggests plants and how to position them. Go to the gardening section, click on garden plans and look for "evening garden", there is also a "white garden" that will give you ideas too. just "OK" .... the "dirt" [teach the young'un it's called soil] would be a useful addition for supplying the grit that worms need, which is also the only thing the eggshells really contribute, and a very little lasts a long time, too much eggshell can make the bedding too alkaline over time .... the coffee grounds are good for maintaining a friable structure, but actually decompose very slowly so have little real food value .... slimey dill is a good thing you don't need to start with a large quantity of worms, under good conditions they breed fast and will grow their own population, better to use what you have now to learn the ropes, especially what and how they eat ... note that worms do not have very big mouths, nor do they have teeth the real food for worms is the microbes [bacteria and fungi] that cause decomposition, so foods that "go bad" fastest will be what disappears fastest, sugary and soft things particularly, that they can "slurp" the surface slime off of ... because food waste is largely water you need to be careful you're not making the bin too wet adding food too fast, watching what happens should guide you Bill

HU-665701964, Some things to check: Look for damage to the vines from critters or weather Check soil moisture. Is it soggy or dry or evenly moist? Some general questions: Do you know what kind of clematis it is or do you have a photo of it before it started looking dead or even one now? How long has your clematis been in the ground, or is it in a pot? Is it mulched and how do you decide when to water it? Where generally do you live? What has your weather been like recently? The good news is that clematis will often come back given care, though it may or may not be this season.
